I knew a couple of the hosts & they are very much the kinds of people that are full of integrity & would not do that. We've actually done refferals to each other in the past.
Yeah i'm seriously thinking about joining up, they were a kick!

Actually, I meant I have a prince and his pals.
Your statement doesn't make any sense. You want to preserve karaoke, by playing dance/filler music? To cater to nonsingers. LMAO How in the world is that going to save anything. :O
Save the whales, take them out of the ocean.
The only way for karaoke to survive, is to maintain karaoke as karaoke and only karaoke.
Kill your end of the business. I'll still be here. The more of anything you play that isn't karaoke, the farther away you will get from it. Why is that so hard to see. Playing dance /filler music is not karaoke. I don't care what you try to call it. You are just trying to justify that you can't hack it as a true KJ. You are not doing karaoke. You are doing DJ-oke. Soon you will be a pure DJ. Nobody will want your services, for karaoke. Because that's not what you will be doing.
Why did you start doing karaoke? To hear dance/filler music? No one on here came on to talk about filler/dance music. You started a karaoke business to make money doing karaoke. You are falling off the karaoke path. Soon you will be lost.
I know where I'll be, with the faithful dedicated karaoke singers and players. Entertaining all that come to my show with pure unadulterated karaoke music, forever. I'll become more in demand. Even more loved than I am now. How will I ever be able to handle all of the new fame? Keep playing the dance music, I'll figure out a way to handle it. :O :dancin:

Lon that has to feel very rewarding knowing they picked your show to come to. They obviously know a good thing when they see it.
I know it would give me a boost. :hi5:
I love it when the area karaoke hosts visit. There should be a bit of camaraderie
felt.

There is a lot of mutual respect between KJs here. When one KJ sees another coming in to his/her show, he/she will often announce the visiting KJ.

I think everyone better re read all of your posts.
After some careful thought on the entire thread, I have come to this conclusion. :drums:
Everyone that has resorted to playing anything but karaoke music, self admittedly said they are doing it to keep working. And apparently it doesn't matter to you.
You are not doing it to preserve karaoke. You are doing it to cover your A**. Playing dance music may keep your job, but it won't save karaoke. Maybe in your mind. You have to justify your inabilities somehow. Don't make up some lame excuse that you are "adapting" to suit the customers needs. The customers need karaoke. That is why they are (were) your customers. :O Isn't that why you were hired? To provide karaoke. The bar owner never said he was hiring you to play dance music. Did he say those words?
To still keep making money. You are not doing it in the interest of the singers, anymore. So admit that you are switching your business over to be a DJ/KJ business. (DJ-oke) Play your dance/filler music and don't consider what you do, as the same thing that I do.
I play all karaoke music because that is my entire business. I don't play anything else to cover my A**, to keep working. My sole "karaoke" income is just that.
I hope this clarifies the matter. Just stating the facts as you wrote them in your own hand.
RE READ THEM BEFORE YOU TRY TO SAY THAT YOU MEANT SOMETHING OTHER, THAN WHAT YOU WROTE.
I wouldn't want anyone to start s-t-r-e-t-c-h-i-n-g the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.
I have made this post to clear up the facts. Not to make anyone mad. Just calling a spade a spade. I do not see it in any other light.
You definately are not "saving" karaoke. You may be "saving" your job. But that in no way, preserves KARAOKE, as the entire world knows karaoke. And how your karaoke customers, view karaoke. Remember, you said it was all about the customers.
I'll respect the fact that you are "adapting" to save something, if you respect the fact that I don't and won't need to "adapt."  :O

At least you don't need to YET should be the correct phrasing. But I do repsect the fact that you are true to your karaoke grasp, whether that will last over time, that's what your crowds will determine.

I've been seriously thinking of visiting a few shows of the members.
I may have to wait until next spring though. I hate the thought of driving in crappy weather.
I think the closest show maybe
Bigmike in WI if I remember right.

I've been down there a few times over the years & I agree it is a very good show. LOVE his sound, that's my biggest factor to go to any show. There's only a few that sound as good or maybe even slightly better that i've seen.

I don't mind a little bit of dance music once in a while (and I dance if I'm not too busy eating or doing something else), but mostly, if it's a KARAOKE night, I am there to SING and hear other people sing on stage. :) So the more karaoke, the better IMHO.
I've already said this on another thread, but it bears repeating: I hate it when someone doesn't have a particular song I want (or that other customers might want) for karaoke, but they have it for filler music! Hello? Where are our priorities at?
(no offense intended to anyone who doesn't agree w/my opinions--I'm not a KJ anyway...) :)

I don't play music sets, but if I did I sure would have it on CDG.
People do need to realize you can't get every song on CDG. Some songs
are not available. If someone requests a song I do not have I try to get it,
but in my experience 9 out of 10 times it isn't made.
Some of the newer dance techno stuff I can't imagine anyone wanting to sing, but
most of it isn't made for CDG.
I'm just defending the KJ a bit, but I do agree if back in black is played in a music set, geezz, you need to have it for karaoke too.

Not all songs are made into karaoke songs.
Not all karaoke songs, made from the begining of time, are still available in karaoke format.
In fact, if someone is new to the bsuiness there are songs that are no longer available in the karaoke format, and they would be unable to get them.
It may take a month or 2 for a new song to be released in karaoke format, and that may be whynthe don't have the songs you want.
ANd on the flip side, you can go to used CD place, and buy a car load of CDs of real music for very cheap, and perhaps that is why they have a bigger collection of DJ music as opposed to KJ music.
And here is a useless/ful factoid from one of my system....
In the last 90 days, I have playe 1,793 songs 5,632 times. Therefore thoes KJs that tout that they have 25,000+KJ songs, it dosent matter. 90%of people sing the same songs every time. Just how many versions of "I've Got You Babe" do you really need?
