Who currently owns the copyright to the Beatles material ? I forgot all about that M Jackson stuff ages ago, yet didn't he sell or something ? He couldn't have bought the copyright after the 18 year period could he have ? Not sure. I have no idea what he actually owned, or had right's to... No clue.. Yet if McCartney wanted to do a different rendition of "When I'm 64", Who'd he have to go thru ? I'm wondering if the Beatles songs are protected and how this would work now..
Back in the early '80s, Michael Jackson was trying to figure out what to do with all his money. He asked Paul McCartney for some advice when they were doing that duet song of Paul's. Paul recommended going into owning song publishing rights.
So about a week later, Jackson told Paul "OK, I think I'll buy the Beatles songs".
Paul thought he was kidding at first, but Jackson was quite serious. He purchased
Northern Songs which was the song publishing company that was started back in the early sixties by Brian Epstein and music mogul Dick James. In the mid '90s Jackson sold half of the rights to Comumbia/Sony's Tony Matolla. Also of note, Paul owns Buddy Holly's and Carl Perkins' song catalogs.

Yes, Ringo was given one song per album to sing. George normally got two songs per album. Yes, I think that's George playing on It Don't Come Easy. Some more
guitar player trivia -- that's George playing the lead guitar part on Donovan's "Sunshine Superman" and Jeff Beck played on Donovan's 'Hurdy Gurdy Man". Clapton of course played the lead part on George's "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" and George cowrote and played rhythm guitar on Cream's "Badge"

Trivia from "experts"
Rain Song (Led Zeppelin)
George Harrison of The Beatles was talking with Jimmy Page when he interjected, "you know, Zeppelin should do more ballads!" And this was right after the release of Stairway To Heaven! Anyway, after Jimmy wrote much of The Rain Song, he purposefully added the first 2 chords of "Something" by Harrison into the first two intro chords of The Rain Song. Nothing was ever said, but the "jab" is obvious. Very humorous those British!

Here's some more trivia, and then I have to crash...
Besides being friends in the 1960's, and known guitarists who frequently worked together, what else did Harrison and Clapton share ?

She was the inspiration for "Layla", IIRC

Simon and Garfunkel had just broken up as a duo right around the time that John Lennon was making the Imagine album. But John really wanted them to sing some harmonies on the album. He invited them to the studio. They showed up, but they showed up very drunk and unable to sing much of anything. So John and Phil Spector decided to just skip this idea! LOL

Yep! She's probably the inspiration for that solo Clapton song "You Look Wonderful Tonight". I don't think they were divorced yet?

I wouldn't doubt she's the reason behind "Promises", too. Relationships...even bad ones, have a funny way of inspiring awesome music!

Did Clapton and Harrison get along following this episode ? Or did this pretty much do it in for their frienship ? I don't recall hearing, or reading anything regarding this. Did they ever work together again following the triad ?
Here's something I found interesting. I was wondering if Clapton's son Conner was also the son of Boyd, but Clapton cheated I guess....
The bottle almost certainly played a role in the destruction of his relationship with Pattie Boyd and their divorce was finalized in 1988. In the mid-Eighties, Clapton had begun an affair with Italian model Lori Del Santo. In August of 1986, she gave birth to their son, Connor. (unless Clapton and Boyd were separated a long time prior to their divorce)

Dweezil Zappa's registered birth name was Ian Donald Calvin Euclid Zappa. This only occurred because the hospital at which he was born refused to register him under the name Dweezil. The name was a nickname coined by Frank for an oddly-curled pinky-toe of his mothers. He was always called Dweezil by his family, though, and later had an official name change.
Moon Unit ended up keeping her name, didn't she ? Never changed it.

Yeah Yeah, It's me again.
Don, From what I can find you are correct. Ringo sang a song per album, usually in fact the song was written for him. "With a little help from my friends" is sung mostly within a 5 note range taking into consideration he was quite limited in range.
Song's Ringo sang while with the Beatles.
"Boys"
"I Wanna be Your Man"
"Honey Don't"
"Act Naturally"
"Matchbox"
"What Goes On"
"Yellow Submarine"
"With a little Help From My Friends"
"Don't Pass Me By" (first writing attempt)
"Goodnight"
"Octopuses Garden"
This is an interesting site. I never knew it existed. I also never heard of an album
"Let it be Naked"

I don't think Eric Clapton and George Harrison ever did any other studio work together after the early '70's but they remained friends. In the late '80s George Harrison toured Japan and had Clapton on lead guitar. There was a live double CD from that tour. Of course Clapton was a key performer in the Concert For George after George died.

The "Let It Be - Naked" was a project that Paul undertook. It's basically the songs from the original Let It Be album with the Beatles and Billy Preston tracks only --no Phil Spector orchestration and vocal choir overdubs.

Don,
Did the Paul McCartney hoax freak you out enough to buy most of their album's around 1969. That really worked on me. I'd spend hours spinning revolution number 9 backwards, cranking up the very end part of Strawberry Fields, Studying Abbey Road and Sgt Pepper Album work for hidden clues.. I even tried scrubbing the white off've the white album, only to learn that the "hint's" were supposedly concealed on the British release of the White Album..
I never liked the first McCartney album because I was sure that was an imposter. I was sure McCartney was dead. Turned out a few years later my mom (who was way into ballet -had studio in our home- and taught knew a Beatrice McCartney, who was the wife of Keith McCartney who was Pauls 1st cousin living in upstate CT.) The rumor had made it to the states (supposedly) before Paul ever heard about it. I don't recall the details, but supposedly John and Paul weren't getting along. John might've been behind the marketing aspect.. Other tidbit's are that the melody to the song Yesterday was composed prior to lyric's were thought out. Paul originally titled the song "Scrambled Egg's". That rumor was strange tho... It worked on many, just goes to show how morbid, and bizarre sells.

I always thought it was interesting to try and track down all those hints about Paul's death. There are tons of them out there. He supposedly died in a car crash in 1966 and was replaced by the winner of a look alike contest who was also a good singer and songwriter. The "I buried Paul" line that John supposedly says at the end of Strawberry Fields. Paul is the only one facing away from us on a Sgt. Pepper's picture. Being in black and barefooted on Abbey Road meant something too about death. Ringo's line in "Don't Pass Me By" about "you were in a car crash and you lost your head...".
Here's a website that covers all this stuff -

From Wikipedia
"Lennon received a letter from a pupil of Quarry Bank Grammar School, which he had attended as a child. The writer mentioned that their English master was making his class analyze Beatles' song lyrics. (John wrote an answer to the letter, dated September 1, 1967, which was auctioned by Christie's of London in 1992).
Lennon, amused that a teacher was putting that much effort into understanding Beatles lyrics, decided to write the most confusing, unusual lyric he could. Lennon's childhood friend Peter Shotton was visiting, and he asked Shotton about a silly playground nursery rhyme that they used to sing when they were kids.
Shotton remembered the words:
"Yellow matter custard, green slop pie,
All mixed together with a dead dog's eye,
Slap it on a butty, ten foot thick,
Then wash it all down with a cup of cold sick".
Lennon borrowed a couple of words from the rhyme, added the three old unfinished ideas and the result was the lyrics to "I Am the Walrus". Upon finishing the lyrics, Lennon remarked to Shotton, "Let the (@$%!) work that one out."
