I have an ink jet printer, and if I were to print two of my books at home, it would probably use up 1 full black ink cartridge (costing me about $17). I have 12 books (6 for Artists, 6 for Titles), and they are about 350 pages (175 with 2-sided printing). A ream of paper (500 pages) costs me $4 and change. I can print 2 full books from 1 ream, and most of a 3rd book with the leftover paper from that ream. So, to reprint all of my books, that would use about 4 reams of paper (@ $4 each (rounding off)), and 6 black ink jet cartridges (@ $17 each), for a total cost of $118. it's little things like this that add up quick. my kiosks were $99 each. for the price of 2 reprints (which is about a years worth) i have kiosks and can update daily as i buy the songs. no more pages in the front sorted by date, then artist (checking every update page for the new Adele song, etc.) just type (or click the just added button and see the last 30 days worth of updates) something i will say surprised me (if you remember i was NOT supportive of the kiosks at first thinking nobody would use them) was that in over 2 years now i have not had one oops on a kiosk. i never made it a week without half my books needing to be washed page by page to get rid of the beer, wing sauce, etc. they treat the kiosks better than the books, color me shocked.

With electronics there can be hiccups, damage from singers, etc, resulting in expensive repairs. I like the KISS system. In 10 years, I haven't had a "repair" cost more than $30 --- ONE TIME --. But, if you only print books every 3 years, how often do you add "update pages" and what is the cost to print the books?

So basically you are saying that you don't need them in order to increase your revenue, and that you can make more money without them. Why am I not surprised? Something I've been saying all along. That is exactly what I am saying. The KaraoQ360 program will have it's successes, but it is not revolutionary in it's current state. There will be a new wave of karaoke entrepreneurs that implement it and will be successful with it. There is also plenty of room in the market for more traditional karaoke programs. The only way I could see KaraoQ benefiting my business would be if I decided to expand much further than I have already. I don't think I keep it manageable without bringing someone else on to help me maintain things. I also just plain don't like the idea of bumps/bribes and giving up a percentage of tips. Just doesn't sit right. I like the model I have and I feel it is far more profitable to go my way than to.... Change my hosting software and retrain my hosts Lock myself into using a content provider that has already shown they can't keep music in the system Change the way I feel a karaoke show should run (fair rotation without bribes/bumps) Making monthly payments to someone else for all the hard work I am doing....

chrisavis wrote: Making monthly payments to someone else for all the hard work I am doing.... This is the thing about this type of paradigm that jumps out at me the most. I mean.....I totally understand why the producer of the program wants you to use it. Duh! I am lost though as to why anyone would sign on to give a company a percentage of profits forever when they only make the program once. It's a very unorthodox structure that really only benefits the software maker. They aren't giving you anything you can't do yourself even if manually. The folks who make the programs you use to RUN your show do WAY more for your experience than this program would do and they don't get a "per click" fee. You buy the program and you're done. Maybe you will buy a new version someday, but it the cost isn't based on how much you use it or how profitable you are. Chris is correct that this isn't anything new. It's just a technological version of it.

It's a very unorthodox structure that really only benefits the software maker. They aren't giving you anything you can't do yourself even if manually. It's not only paying them 25% of your profits. In order to take advantage of all of the features of KaraoQ, you need a monthly subscription to KaraoQ 360 which ranges from $90 to $130 per month. Certainly not feasible for the single op KJ, which is what most of us are. As Chris pointed out, I'm sure there'll be a small percentage of users, however they will certainly be in the minority. For the rest of us, we can clearly see this for what it is. It will not provide us with anything new that we can't do ourselves. Again, as Chris pointed out... we can be more financially successful without the use of this program. You alone create your own success, not this program.
