I am a new poster, but this subject is near and dear to my heart.

I, like other ladies on this thread, am drawn to the uber-fabulous vocal stylings of Mr. Kenny Rogers.  My favorite is "Lady."  (oh and I BRING IT!)

It puzzles people because I am a girl, and a girly girl at that, and not a gay girl (not that there's anything wrong with that.)  So it entertains me, as well as others, and I definitely think Kenny would want it that way.

So thank you Kenny Rogers.  I believe in your song.  I believe.

I have sung songs by many male artists such as :Stryper, Rod Stewart, Steve Perry, Journey, Kenny Loggins, Air Supply, Survivor, Bo Donaldson and the Heywoods, Enrique Iglesias, Colin Raye, Ray Boltz, and REO Speedwagon. I like to sing a variety if you couldn't tell.   LOL  Have a great evening - Tonya

Kenny Rogers is one I can sing on original key.

Remeinds me, I remember trying to find a girl in the bar to sing the female part of "Don't Fall In Love With A Dreamer", but nobody knew it.     :(

A crying shame, sir.  Rest assured, I feel your pain.

I've done Karen Carpenter, Britney Spears, and Shania Twain to name just a few.

Hello everyone,
First time posting here...

The one girl song I do is "Solitaire" by Laura Branigan....

Only thing is I need to quit smoking Black and Mild cigars for a month and then I can do it...

Otherwise my voice cracks...

I sung Kerosene by Miranda Lambert the other night.  The singer had left and I just started into it, and it was sounding good, so I kept on with it, and nailed it.  :)

I would never have thought to hear a guy sing that, but I bet it actually WOULD make a great song for a guy. I'd like to hear it:)

And you live WHERE? Cause if it involves long distances (ie- plane rides)..... I'll settle for a video via email:) Charmin can't do airplanes. Only 2 things will make me ever get on one: the first is (bleep.. edited due to confidential info), the other is if my little bro decides to move back- promised him I'd personally fly out there and drive his Uhaul back. (cause i miss him)

Nah, really, like I said earlier- wouldn't have thought of it, but now that you say so.... I think some men could really do a great job on that song. Can't ya just SUB it in the showcase?

.

I'd say mine are about 1/2 girls' songs and 1/2 guys' songs.  (That's just a rough guesstimate.)  I do change the words if necessary, or sing some of the lines an octave higher.  For me, it doesn't matter if it's a girls' or guys' song.  What matters is whether THIS girl thinks she can make the song work.

For instance, one song I sang last night was "Der Kommissar" by After the Fire.  Gosh, I love that song!  And I'd never heard anyone sing it for karaoke, so I decided to try it.  Anyway, I changed lines like "when she rides with the others in the subway..."  to "when he rides with the others in the subway...".

(Edited to say: Back doing karaoke now; have been singing this song again. Earlier this week, I tried singing it the way I described here, changing some of the pronouns, and I flubbed it (although I don't think anyone noticed), so I've just been singing the regular words, at least for now. I STILL want to know if anyone else here has sung this! End of updated paragraph; back to older message.)

As a straight female, I decided since this person is described as being "hot" ("I knew that she was hot"), it should probably be someone of the opposite sex.  However, I figured that the "kommissar" in the song could still be male, so I didn't change the words on the choruses.

Am I making sense?   Or should I say:  Alles klar?   :D

(BTW, have any of the rest of you guys or girls ever sung that?)

I now do so many songs that I can't accuse anyone of "stealing my song". But I do accuse my wife, who has now stolen two of mine! And bizarre ones, too -- "Folsom Prison Blues" and "Are We In Trouble Now".

Yup, got a few girl songs, but gotta drop key like a rock, which gives the songs a whole new flavor...

I have a few songs that I can drop or raise the key to suit my voice, but then the backup vocals are either mud, or I’m singing with the chipmonks.  Some songs, even one or two changes really messes it up.

I don't mess with that!  For one thing, because of the "chipmunk" effect in the bgv's.  Another reason is that once I was at a karaoke place and the kj had changed the key for the person ahead of me, and then forgot to change it back--so my song started out in the wrong key!  I just said, "Whoa, wait a minute--what key are we in?" and he realized what happened and changed it back.  So I don't have them change the key for me, because I don't want to throw anyone off.
