That's exactly the reason why. I did Enter Sandman once with the help of Singing Squid. He actually came to the house. It was a very painful experience. Sang that incredibly long song about 10 times and the Audacity was very confusing and I decided if it was that hard and confusing I didn't want to do it again. I just wanna sing and that be it. And I didn't have the words and I can't sing without the words...Yup, I'm a word junkie can't sing without them.....

If someone has an easier way I am all ears. I really don't have anything more than a laptop with a bunch of CDG's on it and a cheap mic. But you have to talk in stupid un-geeky words so I can understand....You know plug the blue cord into the thingy majig...etc....
Ok, oddly I just answered this basic question in this post:
http://www.karaoke-forum.com/viewtopic.php?t=8346. My first post mentions different ways to hook up and record, whereas my second post tells how to do the basic hookup / record. That should help you. If you need more info feel free to PM me questions, or I can give you a call and try and walk through some of it. Far as I know just a notebook computer should work fine. Note that if you don't have a karaoke player to hook up to it then you can play the cdg directly from your computer cd or dvd drive (assuming it is compatible) with the correct software. For instance Dart Cdg Player will play and show you the words as you sing and record. There are other options too. If your cd rom is incompatible you may still be able to import the files from the cdg to the hard drive, or perhaps an external cd or dvd would work well.
So basically let me know if you have a karaoke machine to plug in and if you know if your cd / dvd drive is compatible.
Once you have it figured out and setup it doesn't have to be difficult, and you don't have to do all that multitrack (separate music backing and vocals) mess where you have to try and synchronize each to the other. Audacity can do a fair amount of stuff, but the basic stuff is pretty straightforward.
Let me know Sharon.
