Very good point Cindy - thats why I try my best not to get involved and sometimes its very difficult.........and yes sometimes I cave in and take a shot myself - its very hard not to rush to the defense of a friend. However, none of that stuff belongs in the comments, and I'm certainly not guilt free, I've added my 2 cents where it really didn't belong. I just try hard not to contribute to it because that just adds fuel to the fire, or spins off new fires and those stirring stuff up in the first place are thrilled to pieces because they are getting what they want - attention. If it gets to be too much I just take another break LOL.

Hope you aren't feeling high-jacked -- I think they're covering the topic scope really well -- at least I'm learning alot (says in a mousey whispher: "thanks, ladies)

But I wouldn't post anything more than comments over at the SS until Charmin gets done swinging that splittin' maul o' hers!  LMAO

Yep.......Sounds like me, Drea.  It's pretty obvious that a lot of people aren't aware how bad this has gotten or they just don't care....and that's okay too.  I wish I could be more like that and just shrug it off but when people that I've become friends with are being harrassed and called some pretty dirty names it's hard to ignore it.  Phil has had to remove several of the comments because of the language in them and the name calling.  I think there are some people out there that find sites like this to just start trouble.......it's a great past time for them.   And I realize we just feed it when we say something.  Don't know what the solution is other than just stay away from it.  Too bad we don't have a place to go where the ones who want to have some good clean fun and share the music can go.  My children, friends and coworkers come on here to listen to me and some of the others that I tell them about.  So this has really been a little embarrassing here lately.   But.........this is the INTERNET.

might consider asking Phil or whoever is programming software to add a comment restriction much like PMs have.  In otherwords -- if you don't want a particular persons comments -- they will no longer be able to add any to your subs -- might work to cut down on all the problems

I do not consider myself a singer, so when I sub songs at SS and people say something bad about it, it does not hurt me at all. I don't sub anymore cos I can't listen to the songs at SS. The 'rules' at SS is 'you listen to me I listen to you". You want to sub you better start listening to as many songs as posible and leave comments. I can ignore any post in the forum even post dicected to me. You can't even ignore ONE comment about your song at SS.

Hi Jian.. you brought up something very important about the tit for tat listening.. I for one, have managed to detach myself from the 'listening game' as I call it.  I listen to who and when I want, regardless if its a friend or someone that comments on my songs everyday.  I like a wide variety of music.. Often I will listen to people that never come to me.  In turn, I don't expect anyone to be 'under contract' to listen to me.. I would rather have 5 QUALITY comments, than 25 fluff ones, some from people feeling 'obligated'... I disagree with you on one thing though, you are not a BAD singer..

I remember you being one of the first people I listened to on the site...those were the days, with my bad mixes!! LOLOL

Ok I forgot to comment on the main point of this thread. I've been at SS for almost a year now, but just started in the forums a couple months ago. I guess I was rather intimidated by forums as I'd never participated before. For the most part, I only have so much time per day and usually am listening to songs by friends I've made in SS. I like both places, but time is the biggest factor.

Yes forums can be addicting.. we forget about time, sleeping, eating, working...ooohh is that an eviction notice under my door???? :hi5:

I agree with Cindy to a certain point...

There is alot that goes on behind the scenes through emails and PM's so what is actually seen on the board can be pretty misleading at times.   But I do know from day one what started this one situation I've been referring to.  I've heard both sides from the beginning.  And it had nothing to do with music.  And the person being attacked does not deserve what's been happening to them regardless of what some may believe.

There is no excuse for someone to come to the board and morally attack someone's character.  And the ones who go along with this are just as bad as the person doing it in my mind.  I don't intend to remain neutral when someone is downright mean.  I don't support it and I don't want to appear as I do.

Hi Rita.. you know here's food for thought: You say that it has nothing to do with music, which in a sense is true.. but it may have to do with singing....Jealousy & Over Competitiveness is the name of the game with some people...Some insecure people will go to any length.  We can't deny that

This thread at least bring some people from SS who seldom post in the forum. I hope more will post, not just in this thread but starting their own thread in the forum.

Personally I am seriously interested in becoming a better singer and posting submissions here gives me some initiative and incentive.  If I like somebody's song I'll write something; if not, I won't say anything.  Thats about it.  There are various levels of ability on the site, some good, some need more work.  I'll compliment someone who is trying hard but may not sound all that pleasing yet.

This other issue: This idiot who is the center of the controversy is, indeed, an IDIOT.  She (he or it) assailed me one fine night with such a confusing splatter of gibberish it was impossible to understand what she (he or it) was even spewing out. Believe me, I don't have a temper but it took some real white-knuckling to still my fury. The NEXT time I might not be so lucky and wind up saying something that will get ME restricted.   I've known LONG before most people realized it this person was a FAKE but was not savy to this other turmoil being caused.

I'm a paying member and have even bought someone I think has great potential a year's upgraded subscription anonymously so I'm paying for two people.  I don't need that kind of garbage and I think it is about HIGH time the powers that be remove this blithering, damaging and reprehensible IDIOT from the site.  She (he/it) is STILL posting comments last time I looked.  And we have another psycho running around using at least three different names (and tonight possibly a fourth) so it is ridiculous.   Those bozos are hard to weed out, but one that has been readily identified should have her (his/its) (@$%&#!) kicked out of here and fast.  I'm already looking at KSK.

Signed,

Pig-Biting Mad in Minneapolis

It seems that ideally a singer should be able to separate the valid criticism from criticism that is just made up or exaggerated out of proportion.  Hopefully he will be able to recognize criticism that is just posted in order to hurt the person and cause controversy.   Also the listeners should ideally be able to tell the difference between realistic and mischievous criticism too.  Is this too much to expect?

Naturally the critic with a strictly malicious intent should be expelled from KS and SS.  But until then, maybe we can learn to "work around" this type of participant.

Regarding Odie's comment.  I have no quibbles with someone critiquing me if I know what THEY sound like themselves and their ability or know something of the person's background in music (Steve K. for example) but we had a an individual just running around slamming people left and right a month or so ago and of whom I have no idea who this person is, what their credentials are for critiquing me and others or no submission to listen to to see what this person's singing level is--it could have been a 12 year old for all I know.  Don't need it and don't thrive on that baloney, not from someone who comes without anything to recommend them with.  Said person has made a few tentative moves again after a long hiatus.
