I told him I knew his time was valuable and he was probably tired and I was getting tired myself, I had to tell him no. That was very strange to me. It ussually goes the way you talk about here. See, and you never thought Keith hit on you
must have been dazed and confused.... Aparently there is a Keith in every bar you go to......
I am a quick learner though...look for keith where ever I go. I think he is much like the giu that yells "freebird" at every concert, Iam I right???

I have a vent that I need to let out. I don't care if anyone responds, I just need to get it out! It's not that big, believe me, I've had my hard nights, things worse than this but it just got to me.
How hard is it to look in a freaking book and find a number and write it down? Especially when the pencil and paper is right in the front of every binder? It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out a book in alphabetical order by artist or title, yet this task seems to be beyond some people's capability! I had a guy walk up to me tonight and say, "You expect me to find the song that I want to sing in one of those books?" In return I politely said, "Not only find it but write it down too!" He then gets fiesty and says, "I went to [insert other bar name in other town here] and told the guy, that was all I had to do!" I wasn't in the mood and didn't like his attitude and I then told him, "then go back to [other bar name here.]" He then called me a piece of sh!t. Now how does this merit such a response like this? Why would someone want to verbally abuse someone over a karaoke song? Seriously. I was pretty perturbed at this point. I had a 30 singer rotation, packed bar and 4 other people trying to talk to me at the same time. But come on now? I've been called names. I've been called a piece of sh!t by the bar owner. I can deal with it all. I live in a VERY rough neck town and you may say that I don't have to put up with it and you're right. But no one knows what another person can handle unless they've walked in their shoes. My whole point in this vent is time and time again I wonder, what in this world makes someone so angry that they are willing to tear someone else down over a karaoke song? For the love.

Babs,
When I take a karaoke job, I put the cards on the line for the bar owner. I play 4 hours for $175.00 after 4 hours it is $50.00 an hour. There are never any problems or questions. If he wants me to play over ..... Fine, I bill him at the end of the night for it.
Zaffodil,
Tell the customer you have apolicy the customer MUST fill out the song slip, otherwise you dont know if they can read good enough to sing karaoke. (It is a pretest)........ I have never had anyone do anything except fill in the slip.

I think it is Karyoker who does not use slips...I remember him talking about it somewhere on this site...I honestly don't know how he keeps up with 30 singers just telling him what they want to sing...I know when I KJ'd I would have gone nuts doing it that way...But it seems to work for him and that's all that matters...
I can't help but wonder if there are many more KJ's out there that are going this way....
Look at the thread Request Slips.....

Around here it's not quite so lax, If a bar closes at 2 AM weekend night, last call is MUCH earlier of course, drink em up is usually 1:50 and within 5 minutes glasses are off the bar, off the tables and light's are on at 1:55 and people are rounded to the front doors like cattle..2 AM people are OUT.. Has nothing to do with entertainment, that's bar management....entertainment MUST stop around 10 minutes prior to closing.. Thing's aren't up for discussion around here.. .. Bar will lose license otherwise.. God forbid anyone is seen sitting at a bar with a drink at 2 AM.. Seldom happens in my district... Town's would love a reason to shut the place down

When I call up the last singer of the night , while their singing I unplug all the mikes and components from the board exept the karaoke music and the singers mike as soon as the song finishes, I unplug their mike and the karaoke music. By the time anyone shows up to say "just 1 more for me please" I tell them everythings unplugges and it'll be $250. to replug and play some more, they usually get the message.
