It is funny but for the longest time, the Pioneer Players on Craigslist would be $40 tops and once I even saw an ad for "Please remove this player and these funky old laser discs from my porch--free." I just checked and people are listing the players in the hundreds and laser discs are back to $10 each--not all Pioneer--Nu-Tech included.

I found out that the disks I bought were essentially two libraries. They are 99% alike. SO, I put one set on Ebay, converted & stored on a hard drive along with about 45 Sound Choice disks also converted & stored on the same hard drive.
I already have three karaoke libraries and as of right now, I am using more than one on one night only. (Summertime around here SUCKS!).
I put $1,300 as my minimum for 10 days. I really don't care if I sell them or I don't because once Fall hits, I may end up needing them again.
Thanks to everyone who helped me with my questions.

I have another question: These Pioneer files are pretty heavy with the back up singers. Is there a way to turn them down? I converted them in mono - just wondering if I should have done so in stereo maybe so I could turn one channel down?
Or is that just the way Pioneer is?

Or is that just the way Pioneer is? Many of the Pioneer Lasers were Multiplex disc, one with lead vocals one without. You need a multiplex capable player to get the most out of them. By monoing the output you ended up with both the vocal as well as the nonvocal tracks.

I am not getting the lead vocals, just like the high part on most songs, the back up singer is annoyingly loud. Not TOO loud, but definitely just as loud (proportionately) as I would set the mic for the real singer.

Then the only real solution I can see is eqing the midrange of the music track down some, but that really isn't much of an option. Or turn up the mics, add in compression and expansion.

If there is any interest I have a spare 20 LD all Pioneer (I can provide a listing of disc #s) and a 30 slot storage case that I would like to move. I am open to offers. If you want PM me and we can discuss details.
I too agree that LDs are my favourite format. I have 53 plus these 20 duplicates and 2 storage cases (50/30 slot).

Or is that just the way Pioneer is? Just make sure your mixer is either set for "mic center" or that the VCM is set to music only.

karaoke newbie wrote: What is everyone using to convert the LD to you HD? Alot of time & a good video capture card! Since it has to be done in real time, figure 1 hour per side. Doing them as individual tracks is actually easier IMO than doing the entire side & then splitting the tracks up.

I have over 275 Pioneer Video Karaoke songs "ripped" from the DVD's, much easier then capturing them in real time, but I would love to get a set of the original Laserdisc! I have them in the mp4 format and use CompuHost II to play them back, fully mixed in with the rest of my CDG files.

I wish they still made the V-10 twin tray, the best machine there was.

timberlea wrote: I wish they still made the V-10 twin tray, the best machine there was. I have (2) Pioneer V10s, and (2) Pioneer DVD 555s. I prefer the 555 because of the simplicity and very fast load times(4-5 sec). Both are very good, but neither will read CDGs if they aren't "finalized". The 555 has composite and svideo, the V10 has only the composite out. I have (2) SoundChoice PCK3000s and they will read just about anything (CD & DVD), and the load time is about 7-10 sec. The SC players are very cheaply built and I don't think they would hold up very long in a commercial environment. The PCK3000 has several video out choices, composite, component, svideo, vga, and optical. Just 2 weeks I gave my Pioneer V760 Laser disc player to KJ that still uses discs and Laser discs in his shows, because his pause button was broken. I then took his unit apart and found that a ball point pen spring behind the pause button fixed the problem! Now he has 3 working players.

Is there a list of what songs are on each disc?

timberlea wrote: I wish they still made the V-10 twin tray, the best machine there was. I totally agree, timberlea. 'Been using mine for over 15 yrs - trouble free. ‘still perform like it was from day one. Pros: very reliable, built like a tank, ease of use, fast access. Cons: composite out, no s-vid, no problem there.
