DJoake?? dude, DJ work was around umpteen times as long as karaoke! You really DO need to get on your meds!

((scene from "Cutthroat Island"))

(Gena Davis' character of Morgan lowers the lit torch to the cannon she's been hiding, aimed at her nefarious uncle.)

"BAD DOG!"

((boom))

exit the uncle!

It is a term I use to describe the KJs that are turning in to DJs and putting karaoke in the backseat.  Hence, DJ-o-k-e.   See DJ first, karaoke last.

I agree you need to keep up-to-date with your music, but I don't
think the way you look has anything to do with being a successful karaoke host.

I bet if we took a poll here to see how old the average karaoke host was it
would be in the 40s.

Two KJs trying to get the same job.    One looks 30 and one looks sixty, with gray hair, half bald and wrinkles.      You are the bar owner.     Which one are you more likely to hire just based on the first impression?    How about the same two guys.   One still looks 30 and the other one is 60 but looks 50.  You think he's 50.    He just got a little more of a chance didn't he?    When you go for a job, it's still a little bit of a beauty contest.   You have to sell yourself.    You're looks are a major percentage of the presentation.

Watch out this is a trick question.

Why do all bar owners want to hire young babes to bartend?    It doesn't matter if they can count to ten, if they're hot looking.    Does it?

A "with it" looking and sounding KJ has a better shot.    They would in my bar.   Right along with Miss America bartenders and waitresses.     Not Miss Old Maid.

The first impression is what I'm talking about.      Growing up there were many famous and very popular actors.   Do you see them now?   They're still alive.    Who has a better draw at the box office?

If you think how the audience preceives you doesn't matter, then you may as well start playing your death march (swan song) dance music now.   It won't be long until they start to throw dirt on you.     You're dead you just don't know it.

Don't look and sing like a geezer unless that is how you want to be seen.  If you want geezer jobs and a geezer crowd, by all means be a geezer, sing and act and look the part.    Don't expect to get more jobs looking and sounding like a geezer.

I look like a gray haired, slightly bald, dyed brown haired geezer.     I only dyed my hair to give me an advantage in getting hired.     Personally I could care less.   I did it for the karaoke business.     Nobody wants to hire their dad or grandfather, mother or grandmother.      Unless they are.    And that is what they want to attract.

Remember, I still work 5 nights a week, kids.     I'm 53 and retired for 2 years.    :O   I'm very lucky.   I don't smoke or drink, so I don't look my age.    :worship:   Nobody guesses my age right, it's alway on the low side.    So why should I have totally silver hair and look like a geezer?    All of my divorces turned my hair prematurely gray.     I was totally gray between 40-45.     My hair is actually more silver than gray, it runs in my dads side of the family.     My looks will definately play a part in how many more jobs I can get.    My karaoke, not dance music reputation is what is counter-acting my looks. LMAO    I have the experience and can prove it.     The only thing in my favor.

It's halloween, dress up like a gray haired geezer and try to get a karaoke gig.    Prove me wrong.    Use makeup to give yourself the wrinkled look also.    I'll be waiting to see if you find fresh work.   My money will be on the younger looking KJ.

Dress up like an old lady and try to get a bartending job.

Nothing new. Bigdog, come on man. You can do better than that. LMAO

You used to actually listen to people and respond. When did all the preaching justify itself to you? LMAO

He probably didn't even bother reading it. I don't read any of your longer posts anymore because there is too much preaching or ranting and it is usually a "repeat" of whatever you're on about for that week.

I agree with None about your total lack of ability to interact. Not too long ago you actually showed some respect for other member here. Not any more.

So what is the motivation to read anything you say when it's usually the same old song and dance?

Respect is a two way street Bigdog. If we are just here for your entertainment then you can expect everyone to ignore you very soon.

LMAO

Another contributing factor to smaller crowds besides DUI Laws, Smoking Bans, and higher gas prices, it seems to me that people WORK longer hours and more days than ever before and the energy level to go out for leisure time isn't always there.Companies and Businesses (At least where i live) Are Hiring less People to do more work. If you are Fortunate Enough to Have A decent JOB MANDATORY Overtime is the Norm.

I remember how the 40 hour work week was such an accomplishment, and that the next step was the 6 hour a day shift, or 4, 8 hour days.......foriegn trade distroyed the American dream for all, and now only a small fraction of Americans enjoy the dream......our forefathers warned of this.....life's too short to spend it working(johnny echo)........jj

Male role models
who have graced
magazine
covers, such
as George
Clooney,
tend toward
healthy and
realistic
bodies
rather than
the lean,
muscular
physiques
idealized by
advertisers.
AP/FILE
The more media males
view, the worse they
feel about their bodies,
a study says.
BY JOCELYN NOVECK
THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
NEW YORK — That guy in the
Abercrombie & Fitch ad doesn’t
have a head, but does it really
matter? His upper body is as
sculpted as Michelangelo’s
David — all chiseled muscle,
washboard abs and not a follicle
of chest hair.
You don’t just see him in the
provocative ads for Abercrombie,
the youth-oriented clothing
chain: On billboards and in magazines
everywhere, it seems,
there’s a male Adonis — buff,
sleek, hairless. Like that famous
500-year-old statue, it’s nice to look at.
But how does it make the average guy
feel?
Maybe not so great. With all the attention
these days on the effect paper-thin
models and actresses can have on girls
and women, it’s worth noting that men
can suffer from body image problems,
too.
“Body image is not just a concern for
women,” says researcher Deborah
Schooler, who’s looked into the adverse
effects such media images can have on
male self-esteem. “It affects men, too,
and it demands attention.”
In the past, research has understandably
focused mostly on women, and the
dangerous eating disorders that can
stem from body-related emotional issues.
And when looking at men, researchers
asked the wrong questions, Schooler argues.
“Asking men about just weight or size
misses the boat,” Schooler, a research associate
at Brown University, said in a
telephone interview. What men are more
concerned about, she says, are other
“real-body” factors, like sweat, body hair
and body odor.
In a study published last spring and recently
featured in Seed magazine,
Schooler, then at San Francisco State
University, and a colleague looked at 184
male college students. The more media
these young men “consumed” — especially
music videos and prime-time TV
— the worse they felt about those “real”
aspects of their bodies, the researchers
found.
Further, they found that such negative
feelings impacted their sexual wellbeing,
in some cases leading to more aggressive
and risky sexual behavior. (The
study appeared in the journal Psychology
of Men and Masculinity.)
Does all this mean it’s unhealthy for
“Average Joes,” as the researchers titled
their study, to aspire to the lean, muscular
body idealized by Michelangelo and
Abercrombie alike? One prominent
Like women, men get worked up over body image
SEE BODY • A6

This is off the front page of todays paper.      I got it off the internet so I don't have the complete article but you can get the gist of it.

More and more pressures are on people to fit in to certain physical and beauty imaginary guidelines.     It effects your ability to get jobs.

NOBODY wants to look and act old.     EVERYONE wants to do everything they can to look and act YOUNGER.

So I do not believe it had a thing to do with not playing dance music.

Bigdog, that is just spam. All you need to do is post a link to the article and post the points that you want to make into the post.

I'm making a lot of people mad by talking to you at all. I thought I was being helpful by explaining why so many have quit reading your posts.

Either you are very frustrated or you are actually clueless about how to communicate. :D

This is the last time I will try to get you to understand.

We get the point about losing out on work by not looking as good as the competition. It has been proven by many different research studies. Is it PC? No. Is it fair? No. It really does happen. A lot of us know this already. Some learned it by you telling us.

I am done stepping out of line to explain this to you. You tried to help me once on a technical question I had. I appreciated that. I tried to help you here, you don't care.

Goodbye Bigdog. It was fun for a little while but you are too needy.

I will join the ranks of the wiser people who consider you a ghost. My apologies to them for encouraging this to go on by responding to you.
