I know I'm not on the writing team, i just wanted to make a suggestion.
Well we were crying in the first pew
and the ascap guy strolled in
He said "that song is copywrit"
As he looked at me and grinned...
I brushed away the wet tears
Held my mothers' trembling hand...
Then I grabbed my sawed off shotgun
And I turned to him and said....
Hey son see that old man lyin' there
He's played that song a thousand times
No, he's not the rightful owner
But you best just let it slide...
He said I'm sorry that I did it
when he died

Well, ummmm.....
*note to self*
Always make SURE of the dates of these "luncheons" before you go getting all spiffed up and head down the freeway. :D
Good thing I just called the bank... it's tomorrow. At 11:30. NOT today. ( I coulda SWORE the lady told me today...)
As to the song:
Ollie, Chuck, you both posted lyrics for the same spot. You need to fix that.....
I'm off to sing, since I'm in the mood, and now I don't have to get dressed up after all.

Quote: Those are some ideas We have to tie that all in with the ascap guy though and we havnt figured out what the song is thats playing..
What is the likelihood of the ascap buy even getting into a private funeral service ? Pretending to be a mourner for the sole purpose of busting the bereaved family for violation of song rights ? My god, that's pretty nasty

Now that I think of it, it would be a ballad, that means 3/4 time in most cases. So I could have answered my own question yesterday had I thought of it.
Sometimes, that subject is more important than the premise, usually it's not. Not to tell anyone how to write a song but I too recommend explaining or at least hinting at the premise.
As you were.

Us rednecks and ridge runners are used to shootin revenoors, those with suits and gov license plates and sech. We got to protect our stills and familys from those that want to dabble in our personal lives We get our morals from generations of god-fearing folks and we dont need some hypoctite trying to tell us how to live. And dont call us a thief or liar or no account or you will have a brawl on your hands.
But seriously kappy while I agree with ascap and its basic laws I dont appreciate greed. There are bars right now paying u know who so that they wont be hassled and those that dont seem to be hastled by everybody. When it is that corrupt I dont trust anybody.
As far as any reference to an ascap rep or detective actually enetering a funeral proceeding is a twisted form of satire to illuminate the idiotic solutions of laws enforced to compensate for inadequcies in realizing the actual root of the problem.

Only two things you can count on in this world....
Death and paying ASCAP. Much worse than not paying your taxes.

Nope, he originally started his song off with the statement
"Sang to the tune of Old Dogs and Children and Watermelon Wine"
Not 3/4 waltz time Chuck, it's 4/4 time.
Hey- Ollie- what happened to your dang song anyhow? I was starting to get into it. That's like putting down a half read book man!! You need to finish it up. (then sing it for us all) :D

No. Don't confuse common ballad Iambic Trimeter song format with triple-meter time signature. ALL a ballad is, is a story told musically, either via narrative, or poem. It's a musical story, a song with lyrics...
MOST of our contemporary hits ARE ballad format, just about all country western is, pop hit's etc, and are as common in duple and triple meter. Now if you were to say roller skating, and ice skating music I'd agree waltz format is common, but not all triple meter music is Waltz.. While Waltz is usually 3/4 time sig, I don't think ALL 3/4 time sig. songs are "A Waltz".
Of course I forgot all this stuff, I used to hate it LOL
This has been a brief music lesson brought to you by....(OOOPS....brb).

That's most likely true. You're talking to (or, I guess you weren't exactly, but I'm meaning.... ME) LOL ... a person who has had NO musical training whatsoever. I'm talking from the perspective of someone who's grown up around fiddles being played, and western dancing. If dad said "follow me on this song, it's waltz time".... I knew the guitar rythm... it was always a 1-2-3. So, yeah, to me 3/4 time is always "waltz time".... but I've never needed to know more than that. Same as if he says "let's play a shottische...." or a "two step" or a "jig" or a "reel".... it's all stored in my head as fiddle/guitar rythms.... NOT as time signatures on a sheet of music.
Technically speaking...... well, it's just best that nothing intended to be "technical" ever comes out of my mouth. LOL

I'm not familiar with "two-step". But can something that's two step NOT be "duple-meter" ? I don't know.

Ummm...... does "Old Dogs & Children" HAVE a chorus at all? I think, like Great Speckled Bird, it just kinda followed the same o thing thoughout the song. Gosh, I gotta refresh on that song a bit.
Heck, it's YOUR song, ll, do a chorus if ya want. Don't ask me, cause then I'll start thinking it needs some minor 7th chords, and a bridge, and a fiddle section.... hahaha
