I prefer it over the newer models because it shows on the LED's what frequencies it's working on. The newer models just have an LED level meter. But really not that big of a deal. If you can find a newer one cheap, then go for it. But you CAN find & get them for under $50 off of ebay. I bought 2 of them last year for a friend & 1 I paid $1.65 + $10 shipping (422A) & the other I paid $19 + $8 shipping (462). Lonman the 422A that you have features unbalance input/output so just wondering where did you insert this unit in your system? thanks
I have mine on the main output insert point of my mixer.

I haven't read the whole thread, so maybe these comments have already been made....
I first tried an earlier version, the 362 I think it was....It generated a hiss due to being unbalanced...It was quite noticeable....I switched to a new 822a or whatever(too lazy to go look) and as it is fully balanced, the hissing went away....I'm really happy with the sound it offers....All I do is boost bass maybe to 2 o'clock and usually leave highs at 12 noon setting. Like lonman mentioned, it's rather lacking in metering, but I agree it's not's needed...It has an auto/manual switch...It sounds best left in manual.
My first purchase before the BBE was the then-new Peavey Kosmos....Yuk!...It was way to quirky to fiddle with the bass, but I gotta admit it made the highs sound even better than the BBE....I gave it to some guy in Texas...I haven't tried the Kosmos Pro after getting burned on Kosmos 1, but I hear it does a good job overall.
BBE seems to release a new BBE every week....not sure what get's upgraded, but I'm thinking all they do is tweek the logs and reprogram the chips...Some versions have upgraded chips and improved circuits, but mostly they just improve the programming...I took the time to write and ask, they responded honestly and said it was a work in progress. Honesty is refreshing in the music equipment business....Usually all you get is hype.
Nice note about the BBE is that you can recalibrate it or have it done....The cal specs are in the manuals....Does calibration make a difference?....Sure it does cause all such things lose their electronic edge over time...Is it worth the cost to recalibrate?...That depends on if you can do it yourself or if you gotta pay bench rates....Odds are you can find a newer one for sale used cheaper than having yours recalibrated, but if you got an o'scope and proper signal generator layin around, go for it....BBE will also repair/recal at reasonable rates including shipping.

No the mixer I use has actual insert points on the main out, just like an individual insert on the channels, this just covers the main outs via a send/return cable. It's not physically hooked up between the mixer & amp (or mixer & processors). I've never had any audible noise issues.

ic... by looking at mackie cfx manual as ref i realize that high end mixer has the main insert, aux send/return, fx send/return....
mine only has the fx send/return. would that be the same if i run unbalanced maximizer through the fx send/return? so that way my main out -> amp is still through balanced connection.

I have a Peavey XR600G mixer amp. and want to run a 362 through it. What would be the proper hook up? Thank you.

No the fx send/return is a side chain that allows the original signal through, but just adds a touch of whatever is patched through it as well. A sonic Maximizer wouldn't have any benefit hooked up through this method. The only other way to hook it up is in series between mixer & amp & if you wanted to remain balanced, you'd need the 800 series.

You would use the main out (on the front of the mixer) to the input of the BBE & use the output of the BBE to the power amp in on the mixer.

Karyoker just posted a link in the tech forum, to the new Mackie mixer manual. Read page 213 to help with grounding issues and hum.
