hello, the hero rescuer here....

sharon and i have been together for quite a while now and i can tell you it was pretty scary to get a phone call from her so early in the evening for me to come and get her!!

i don't believe stress or anything like that was the issue here.  we talked several times a day while at work and she was her happy self all day long.  so to get a call to come get her was pretty intense.  while talking to her on the phone, her speech was a little slower than normal but very articulate and you could hear the panic in her voice.

i am glad she went into the office and not into her car where, if she was drugged, some jerk off could have done something to her.

the other thing is, if she was drugged, it would have been one of our "friends" who did it to her!!  we have known these people for a long time and they seem like really nice folks and i have talked with them for hours on different nights.

the downside to knowing all these people, the guys all tell me they have crushes on my wife!  i don't mean just crushes, they let me know in no uncertain terms how much in love with her they are.  they even have wives or girlfriends!

i don't seem to trust that club as much as i used to, but maybe it's just that when i go in there (which is not that often) i don't drink as much so i can watch the going's on.

the upside to all of this is that there were no "side effects" to all of this that her body won't get rid of.

which brings me to the next thing i noticed as a man taking his wife to the hospital emergency room.  the doctor's ask trick questions, like:

is your wife acting goofy?  anyone who knows isis knows this is a loaded question.  i looked at the doctor with a puzzled look on my face i was trying to go into standup comedian routine.  the doctor said finally...any more than normal?

when the doctor says to have complete bed rest, no excercise or strenuous activity...do not reply...well, hell who is gonna mow the lawn!!  (i didn't see that iv bag coming!!)

sharon is a great person and i love her with all that i am.  i am the luckiest man in the world. (dang i just put that in writing for the whole world to read!!!)

I thought this episode happened friday night (you had a few drinks), and saturday you went into the hospital correct ?  I was talking about test's that might've shown elevated liver enzymes from the alcohol, rather than some other shorter acting drug..

Glad thing's are OK now...  That type sudden sensation (repeatedly) put an end to my music career... Seemed to close in on me.. I was sure I was going to die.. It was short, and acute...Sudden.

It did happen Friday after 2 1/2 drinks over about 2.5 to 3 hours or so.  Liver enzymes were fine on Saturday when I went in.  I had those elivated once on a blood test.  Made the mistake of drinking the night before a physical.  They said nothing after midnight so I did that.  I subsequently had to go back every week for a month to be retested....

This is all somewhat of a mystery.  However, Because of the Doc in the ER and just the facts and knowing me and my body, at this time I am going with the I was drugged theory.  I have fowllow up appointments next week and the week after I had already had a physical scheduled anyway.

Thanks Kappy, You always bring new insight to many different things.  I know how sacry an attck can be, sorry to hear that you have been through it as well.  I know it is not fun.

Naturally the doc knows the most based upon seeing you and the results Sharon, however I NEVER assume anymore some of these weekend ER doc's are aware (based upon their background, and own bias) of certain thing's... I've just lost alot of faith in the medical profession when it comes to certain things... Strange thing was, A few times when I was Hot, tired, stood up suddenly...and was either talking alot, and excited about a conversation, or singing backup.... All of a sudden I'd just start to freak, become disoriented, and it'd be as though I was outside of my body looking in... Having been on most of the benzodiazepines at some point, I don't think a look of terror or sensation of terror is associated with that type dosing... It's bizarre but often the prime conditions I experience are exactly when I stand up suddenly in heat after being seated for a long time, depending on the position of my head, and how I lift it. Sudden lightheaded feeling, and that might hit after moving to the stage and standing still, worsened by visual stimuli, depending on conditions it is a middle-ear type imbalance that does cause the spin's, and that's frightening enough to push a person predisposed into sudden spiraling panic..... The most bizarre thing in my case, is that some of these spontaneous panic attacks happened during certain lighting conditions, movement (driving in the car), and within less than a second, I was suddenly in a nightmare world, where nothing was real.... At first they ran loads of tests... Asked me if I was feeling anxiety, often times I wasn't,  it was that sudden feeling or bodily sensation that threw me into full blown spiraling panic without even consciously being aware of it... Fear of losing control, fainting, etc.... That kindling process happened so quickly, and I was so rundown,  I thought I had some sort've seizure, or a quick acting flu bug, etc... As we age, panic episode's also change form in how they leave us feeling... I wasn't usually feeling anxiety at the time it happened initially, that wasn't until afterwards when the fear-adrenaline-fear cycle kept me wired, and phobic avoidance behaviour set in.. Initially most of the time, I was feeling physically rundown abit, but all of a sudden my mind started going hay-wire, while my body was weak, shaky, and exhausted.... Felt like I was going to launch off've the face of the earth... This crap became so frequent, it's the reason music ended for me... It was happening a few times a day...

Hopefully it's just something that will never happen to you again, yet the fact that you do go into that bar so frequently, the fact that you DO know 90% as you state that frequent the bar, the fact that squid said you looked terrified, and the fact that you were seated for so long, and this didn't hit you until you stood up got on stage and were singing (classic hyperventilation trigger to full blown panic), WOULD have left you feeling disoriented in the bar office... These things are friggin horrifying, I thought I was psychotic before the diagnosis... Anyway, this is more than I wish to get into about myself LOL ..   They ruined my musical career... I'm predisposed to this crap, and I hate it !!   Too many damn anxiety attacks.... That's why I drank and drugged....

Good luck...

(OK, I'm going to go out and walk for abit,  need my exercise)

Sharon wow..... I hadn't been on here reading this, but Odie sent me an email and told me about it. I'm glad atleast that you're okay.  :(

You know, it really likely was a drug someone slipped you. I had an incident like that when I was 16, and though the testing was done too late to be certain- they assumed it was that. And back then (showing my age here- over 20 years ago) I don't think it was quite as common as it is now. Not a happy memory, and I know what you mean about it being different from "getting drunk". Consumed alcohol can hit you all at once and you do the "One Tequila, Two Tequila, Three Tequila- Floor" thing... But it was the same when it happened to me. I did lose memory of it, but I went from knowing everything that happened, very clearly, to just blank nothingness.... and I took about 3 days to recover.

I hope you find it on the video if this is what happened, so you can make sure the perpetrator gets his/her due. I never ever leave my drink unattended. If I go to the restroom, it goes with, or I just do an automatic "Hey, watch my beer" to someone at my table. (which would always be... my hubby, a family member, or Odie...only) You just can't trust anyone.  I usually even carry it up when I sing, I just hate to pick a drink back up after it's been left unattended. Though, I'm sure I've done it when I'm slightly off my rocker... Your thread here is gonna make me take more care though, and atleast I'll make sure someone at my table knows to watch out for my drink if I get to drinking too much. Even in our small place, alot of out of towners stop in from time to time.

And, not my usual thing to do.... But I'm gonna back Steven's posts up. I too have been through the panic/anxiety thing. The first time it hit me, I was driving. I felt a little dizzy, and next thing you know my heart is racing, I'm shaking, my palms got all sweaty.... and I literally blacked out driving on a rural highway in the middle of the road. I was rushed to an emergency room, had every test on the planet run on me, and was told I'm *healthy as a horse*. Then I had it happen again, but not driving, I was sick with a bad head cold, made me lightheaded and it was a bit hard to breath lying down... and it set off a series of panic attacks. Same thing- rush to the hospital, tests run, I'm *healthy as a horse*. After seeing a regular doc, and explaining all this stuff, I was told I suffer from panic/anxiety. I would literally get where I felt I could not breathe. And.... the time I was driving, I didn't have a care in the world... all was fine... it just hit me out of nowhere. They said I most likely had a dizzy moment cause it was lunch time, and I needed food (drop in blood pressure...??... low blood sugar...??) and the panic attack was automatic.

It's scary stuff, and can make you feel like you're gonna die- AND wish that you would, just to make it end. If you do this in the future again, I'd consider talking to a doc about that. For me, learning what it was, and being able to identify a panic attack when they came on, has made it to where I can kinda head 'em off at the pass... cause I know there's nothing really wrong, and I can lessen them with that knowledge. I don't take meds, never have, never will.  I had gotten to where I could not/would not even drive by myself over 5 miles or so without having one... cause I was "alone"... and could not stay home "alone". Assurance that I was physically well, and it was just these attacks... have brought me a long way.

Anyways, not to babble, I'm just throwing a second opinion out there on that. For me, it was very hard to admit & realize that that is what was wrong with me. I always considered myself a strong person, able to handle anything that came my way... and my first thought was "Yeah, right... I don't PANIC!!!" But I did, and it was very much as you have described your night was.

Hope all goes well with ya g/f....

Oh yes, I could add a ton of panic attack stories of my own that played havoc with my musical career and personal life too.  Even though there's a first time for everything, Sharon just doesn't seem like a person who would be prone to panic attacks.  So we're coming to a conclusion of a "drugged by somebody" cause by a process of elimination.  Too bad the doctor and tests couldn't have detected something to point the blame at a specific cause.  One would hate to have to become overly worried or paranoid when going out even to your favorite place! But to be on the safe side it sounds like there is no other choice.

Anyway, glad you're feeling better Sharon!  That's the main thing.    :)

I just got off the phone with the owner of the place...I filled him in a bit and he says he's gonna hold the tape out and make sure he doesn't tape over it.  God, I hope they nail whoever did this to a wall...

Dave,  If there is a tape,  It should be pretty obvious roughly as to what time period someone would've slipped such a drug into her drink based on the onset of such symptoms.. Likely within 45 minutes of before she got up to sing, assuming someone did in fact... If she was on camera the whole time, this should be VERY interesting... Yet my thought's were, if she actually was drugged, she'd have started getting woozy before she just stood up, and this likely wouldn't have hit full blown on stage when she was singing... As Charmin, and Odie stated, the weird things about these panic episodes is that they don't necessarily hit when you are energized, nervous and wired... Often times heat, and low energy and strange bodily sensations can bring on the physiological attack in those predisposed.. My guess is, that based on the time sharon was sitting there, she'd have started to notice some symptoms PRIOR to getting on stage where she likely hyperventilated after standing up suddenly... Two days ago, it was 97 here,  I stood up from a lawn chair, and keeled over... got a white out before it happened.... What did I do wrong ?  I had coffee, and NO water all day,  I was dehydrated.... Now assuming the symptoms weren't that extreme... I'd stand up a little dizzy, get on stage, and than following words and visual prompts could kick in full blown panic assuming I'm run down.... Many think it's the flu, or something....

If you catch someone on camera, NAIL THEM of course,  but I have a feeling since you are prone to sudden onset of this type of thing, a "date rape" drug would've made you very tired when you were sitting, and you'd have not even made it to the stage before you started recognizing symptoms...  How hot was it in the bar btw ?  Heat is a huge contributor,.. Anyway, I won't go on and on,  but ALL of us that have in some way become imcapacitated or terrified from these things know how suddenly they strike seemingly with NO reasons.... but often the cause is just dizziness..... Plus, if you can react this way to gin,  It's not unlikely the bartender accidently gave you Gin and seven....

Dave and sharon, here's a thought, since she did get sick, and the hospital felt there might be a chance she was dosed.  Would it be appropriate to ask the police to view the film, or is the owner trustworthy enough to not pull something like "I want no involvement in this", by law I am responsible...and cover evidence ????

Should the police summons the tape ?

Tim, any thought's on this ?  I'm thinking if it was the hospital's opinion based on that spectrum of tests that "she might've been drugged", although speculation, if there's a tape, wouldn't that be cause enough for police to view the tape ?  For all we know, what if it was the bartender, or the owner.... They wouldn't admit to it, they'd likely sabotage it or erase it... or do something to cover up....Shouldn't the police summons that tape ?  or an Atty ?  IF there's a preditor in there, other females are at risk too !

This bar owner does not like people taking advantage of other people at all. He too is crazy about Sharon but with a healthy respect for her.

I'm at least 90% certain he will hold on to the tape as long as it isn't too much trouble. He also likes to justify having the cameras every chance he gets. I do recomend to Sharon to get there and see the tape ASAP, just to rule it out or in.

I'm sorry to hear about the panick attacks that people are having or have had. I lived in a constnt state of milder panick from the age of 17 to my late 30's. Pulse averaged between 110 and 130 beats per minute. It wor me down but I am doing much better now. Thank God for GiGi. :)

Chuck.  Should Sharon be the one to view the tape ?   Or someone in law enforcement ?  It might not be obvious at all how it was done.. or when it was done, if a view was obstructed, etc.... She was sitting right there, wasn't she ?

I have also spoken to the owner in regards to the tape.  I will be viewing it by myself in the next couple of days.  The owner has aggreed not to let anyone else view it until after I do, since it has nothing to do with anyone but me.

My only thought's are Chuck *and this is Tim's area not mine*, however MY concern is what if there is someone there the police already know ?  What if there is a sex offender there ?  What if they recognize certain scoping out behaviour, and setups... distraction techniques, etc... What if someone swapped a drink when she wasn't looking,  Law enforcement will recognize certain behaviour in preditors around Sharon, she herself isn't trained to watch for.. In cases like this, what if it was one of the barbacks ?  Who knows.... Not a good idea to rule out too many sometimes.... Sometimes one you least expect it to be COULD possibly be the one with some sick motive..  Yet my guess is nothing will be found...

You don't know that Sharon,  Next saturday a girl might get raped assuming that IS what happened,  it affects innocent people not even associated with this preditor assuming you were dosed.... It will be someone else shortly too !!!

This seems like a police matter.   Why you ?   Why not another female ?

But I tell you I was on the third drink and I was on stage singing Total Eclispe of the heart.  When it hit me.  The room starts spinning and I couldn't read the words on the screen.  Squid told me that he had never seen me mess up the lyrics to a song so bad before.  I have no idea what I must have sang.

I immediately went to the bar office and sat down in the quiet and called my husband to come get me.  By the time he got there (about 20 minutes)I was completely incoherant.  And I was sick.  I couldn't sit or stand or even hold my head up.

And this morning I am still pretty weak feeling and kinda dizzy.

Has anyone ever experienced anything like this?  I personnally think I may have been drugged or something..

What do you think happend?

And the weird thing...I remember everything...

Sharon,  I understand what you are saying.  I think you should have a right to be present as well,  I believe there would be a few questions you could answer when asked.. But what you don't know for certain, is if there were other local reports of such episodes that particular night... This is my logic..

The purpose for viewing the tape, is because the medical profession agreed after full testing that there's a possibility you were a victim of a crime.... The purpose of viewing the tape is for ONE objective, ruling out, or catching a criminal... This is a VERY dangerous person, who if caught, will likely be arrested to serve some time.... Who is more qualified to catch a criminal....You, the Bartender, or a proper branch of police enforcement ?   This is my logic,  you are watching the tape for one reason, you COULD have been the victim of a crime.... This IS a police matter.  They might find someone else getting dosed while you are watching something that's not relevent.... They might say it's OK for you to be there,  ask you who you know, and who you don't know..... This is for your good, and the good of ALL women that might be potential next victims.... Why do guy's drug
women ?  To rape them !... Assuming this is what happened, (and we don't know), I think the police should do the police work when searching a crime scene..  We are not qualified

Chuck,  could I sit in as your proxy ? :oh yeah:  I'll make it easy for the girl, relinquish her of all fault by dosing my own drink !!

I suppose in letting police or someone qualified in crime areas such as this view the content, you are pointing NO finger's at all.  The tape speaks for itself... I'd think that the hospital has notified the bar anyway, assuming they believe you might've been the victim of such a crime... I'd also think the police will be notified. Wouldn't they be ?  Also GHB "Liquid x" can be fatal.   This person could've killed you.

Sharon,  Have any of you done an internet search in your area, to see if there have been reports of this type activity in your general area lately ?

The important thing is that you are OK,  I hope (assuming there is someone doing this), there aren't more victims

No I should check that....

I had forgotten all about the Gin thing.....Remember I have a bad reaction to Gin.  So it is very possible that they were pouring the wrong alchohol for me.  That will be the first thing I check on the video.  I am really hoping at this point that is what happend.  Cause I really don't like thinking that someone I know could have done something like drug me...
