So what's the secret, Luly?  I'm getting the same thing.  Well, sometimes I get a completely different page for Singer's Showcase and can't get in at all.   It's been back and forth all day.  Sometimes I can get in and other times I can't.

Connie, I'm having the same problem loading SS today again, but the other problem was that I couldn't hear any songs.  This is what Phill told me to do when I had that problem last, in case you also can't hear songs:

Question:

Enabling or disabling a program set as the default program.

There are several different companies who develop software programs that perform the same function such as playing a sound file, viewing pictures, browsing the Internet, etc. Often these programs will fight with each other for rights to open the associated files on your computer. Because of this a user may encounter issues with one program opening a file one day just to have another program open it another day.

Often this issue is caused after a new program that is capable of opening the same type of files is installed on the computer. This issue can often be avoided if the program being installed has the option to set it as the default or gives you the option to set the file types that the program is associated with. If you have already installed a program and wish to have it set as the default program try closing and re-opening the program, often it will ask if you wish to set it as the default program, sometimes a program may even do this without prompting you.

Below is also a list of how to manually set some of the more commonly used programs as the default application.

Microsoft Internet Explorer

If you have another browser installed and wish to have Microsoft Internet Explorer check to make sure it is set as as the default browser each time you open it, from Internet explorer click Tools, Internet Options, click the Programs tab, and check the "Internet Explorer should check to see whether it is the default browser" option. If you do not wish for Microsoft Internet Explorer to check to see if it is the default browser uncheck this option.

Note: If you have another Internet browsers installed you may need to disable their default browser options, otherwise the other browser will fight with Internet Explorer.

Microsoft Windows media player

Microsoft's media player is a program that associates the type of files it is capable of opening. If there is a certain type of file extension that you do not wish to have associated with Windows media player open the program click Tools, Options, click the File Types tab, and uncheck which file types you do not wish to have open in the media player. For example if you do not want to use the Windows media player for your MP3 files uncheck "MP3 audio file (mp3).

Note: If you have other media players installed you may need to enable or disable their association with the file type you enabled or disabled in Windows media player.

Mozilla Firefox

If you have installed Mozilla Firefox and wish for it to be the default browser you can open Mozilla Firefox and click Tools, Options, and under the General section uncheck "Firefox should check to see if it is the default browser when starting.". If you do not wish for Mozilla Firefox to check to make sure it is the default browser uncheck this option.

Note: If you have another Internet browsers installed you may need to disable their default browser options, otherwise the other browser will fight with Mozilla Firefox.

Winamp

Winamp is a program that associates with the types of files it is capable of opening. If there is a certain type of file extension you do not wish to have associated with Winamp open the program and click Options, Preferences, under File Types highlight the programs you wish to load. If you do not want Winamp to be associated with a particular file type un-highlight any programs you do not want Winamp to open.

Note: If you have other media players installed you may need to enable or disable their association with the file type you enabled or disabled in Winamp.

If the program you wish to enable or disable as the default program is not listed above you can commonly locate the option for this feature under "Tools", "Setup", or "Options". If you want to disable the default program setting for a program you no longer use you can also uninstall the program.

Hope this helps - I will post this in the forums as well.

The SMTP error is due to a member requesting to be notified of any new post to a thread, however they do not have an email address listed!

I have tried to contact all members regarding this previously. IT IS MANDITORY THAT ALL MEMBERS HAVE A CORRECT EMAIL ADDRESS LISTED.

This can cause problems with the forums.

Ummmm, I do have a correct email address listed.   :?:

P.S. No problem now and no change to my profile.. :)

The above should work. [Thanx - Luly for posting]

I am curious - I am receiving emails from people that state that they are getting notified that domain names have expired!

I have no idea why anyone would be getting these type of messages.

ALL DOMAIN NAMES ARE CURRENT & ACTIVE!

Someone just emailed me and said that they couldn't access the forums because the domain name "Karaoke-Forum.com" was expired! WHAT? I am currently on the site and I do not have that message.

Karaoke-Forum.com - Expires:  04-FEB-2006
KaraokeScene.com - Expires:  31-OCT-2005
SingersShowcase.com - Expires:  31-JUL-2006

All domains that are owned by Karaoke Scene are on an automated renewal system.

tried to get in today... and the url took me to a domain reregistration site... saying the domain for karaoke-forum.com had expired. Then when Phill asked me to give him the exact url, I went back and was able to get in today!

SHAEESH!

It's weird Phill cuz at one point either yesterday or today Heads Together was getting domain expired and at the same time I was able to get in.

Now I've heard it happening on YOUR site too Phill... and again I could get in while Luly couldn't. Go figure.

I haven't been getting any wierd messages, but I was getting that popup. And yesterday evening I came on to listen to songs for a bit......... and the showcase was SO SLOW.

One other wierd thing it did- I signed onto the forums, then signed off for a bit, but left it up on my comp. When I came back it said I was still signed in....... at the bottom of page one- where it shows users online..... but I couldn't access my mail or gallery or anything. It would give me my sign on screen, but wouldn't sign me on. ?? But I had no option to sign out either. Left me thinking "whut~whut??". I finally left, before I got the urge to start beating on my computer.

Not grumping...... (me? grump? no way! lol) Just trying to let ya know what other little wierd things it's doing.

No I didn't mean you! Oops - sorry.
There are several members that for whatever reason after being members have deleted or changed their email addresses. This is not proper and it causes the SMTP error!

That is strange? {Not that you don't 'Grump' - Ha ha}

It could be that your login details are stuck in your cookies. (I usually like sticky cookies, but not in this case) I have had that happen to me. Every month go through and delete cookies and temp files.

In IE - 'Tools' - 'Internet Options...' - Delete Cookies & Delete Files buttons

This usually will help.

Phil? You're not being very nice.    I've been called worse than grumpy though, so I'll let you get away with that. (and especially since you could.....you know..... remove me from here if the notion hit you, haha)

I delete cookies & all that daily, just about every time I get off the internet. BUT...... that may work next time I'm stuck in "signed in/but not really signed in" mode.

Thank you for answering.

PHIL!!.....................

NOW I'm grumping...... and stompin' my feet, and whining, and throwing a regular hissy fit.

~ ~ ~Calming down now before I get in trouble~ ~ ~

I *finally* get a free sunday afternoon to spend time listening, and something is making the site run SO slow for me.

On singers showcase....... typing replies, it is taking forever for my reply to show in the box as I'm typing....... 3 times the whole site has froze on me and I've had to shut down my comp to get it back up.  Songs keep freezing up too.  And on the forums.... I've been "signed out but signed in" quite a few times. If I click my name where it says "who is online"...... it takes me to the sign in screen, and I can log back in. But not from the main screen. (?????)

I'm a bit too ignorant to know what else to try. (and hey- don't agree with that statement)  You're supposed to just say "No you're not".

I haven't been able to play any songs late yesterday and today.  The window pops up and the song looks like it should be playing, but there is  no sound.  Is there something going on?  I have tried to e-mail the webmaster, from the "contact us" link on the left side of this screen,  but I get  a message that I'm from an unauthorized domain.

Earlier in the week everything was working very well, a great improvement from the week before, so I'm a little disappointed I'm having problems again.

Just wanted to say thanks for whatever you did to get the Singer's Showcase working properly.  I didn't  do anything different to my computer to try to get the songs to play, but things have been working very well.  I hope it continues.  :D

I didn't do anything?!

I have been watching the server and checking the site(s) through-out the day, everyday.

I am uncertain what the problem was but I am glad to read that it seems to be fine now?!

I will continue to monitor and see if I can find anything.

Thanks

One thing I do notice is that before SS goes down, almost always it becomes very slow when typing comments..the letters don't appear for about a 1/2 sec delay. That's what waz happening yesterday all day (October 4, 2005) and then this morning (October 5, 2005) the site waz down for a few hours..the regular "can't access the site" screen appeared as if the site didnt exist
