Knightshow, can you do Scenes From An Italian Restaraunt? I find it tougher than it seems, tripping over my tongue. I love alot of Billy Joel though, and i think I do him pretty well.

Never tried Scenes From An Italian Restaurant, but I have done Big Shot a couple times. One of my semi-regular songs I do by him is All About Soul off River of Dreams.

I know that I am most comfortable singing Jewel songs; Foolish Games, You Were Meant for me and almost anything Bette Midler. But I have decided to be brave and tried out Whitney Houston's I Will Always Love You and really suprised myself and the crowd. Since I nailed that song, I am finding it easier to test my range. I am naturally an alto, but I am starting to become a little more comfortable now with trying rangey ballads.

IsisMoons, I am so happy for you on doing Whitney Houston. After I became more comfortable, I started pushing not only my range, but also the overall difficulty of the songs I was picking. I like the challenge.
Sara Smile is one were Daryl Hall is all over the place in the song. I love that. Songs where the vocals are up and down the scale. Other examples (which I haven't done yet, btw) are Scenes From an Italian Restaurant and We Didn't Start The Fire both by Billy Joel.
You keep pushing the envelope and you will be suprised at what you can do. You go!

What a great topic!
I sound most like Karen Carpenter. It's probably from being a fan of the Carpenters for so long and singing their music constantly around the house! When I started singing karaoke that's ALL I would sing. It's always difficult for me to find new songs to sing because a lot of the female songs out there are just way too high! I end up singing more guy songs!

Wish we lived closer together as I don't hear enough women sing Karen Carpenter. I would come out just to hear you sing. What a voice that woman had! I will always miss her. Brings tears to my eyes every time I hear her on the radio.

Well, Simply Celtic, if you ever make it up to New England you'll have to come to our show! That is, when we have a gig again. (We started at a great place in July, but that came to an end last week as the owner decided he could make more money renting the club out for private events...but that's another story altogether...)
Anyway, I digress...
Have you seen the new Aquafina (I think it's that brand) commercial on TV? My jaw just about hit the floor when I heard them playing "Top of the World"! Never thought I would hear a Carpenters tune in a jingle!

I dont watch much tv other than movies so I didnt see that commercial yet. Interestingly enough, their first hit was a commercial jingle that Richard heard on the tv and asked to get the rights to record it as a single and it ended up a hit. It was We've Only Just Begun. Cool, huh? Things really do come full circle.

What an interesting thread.
Lol@ NHOH- you're so funny.
Ok What Now- MUST we keep telling you who you sound like?!?!? Cause you do sound alot like him- but you probably get tired of hearing that.
I don't think I sound like anyone in particular- just me.
I've been compared to a few different people on here, and I don't think I sound like any of them in the least. Sheryl Crow, Natalie Maines, Julie Roberts, & the Judds for starters. Funny, huh- cause those 4 women don't sound like each other either. Yet my voice has been compared to each. I think it's all what certain people here. My husband, as well as other relatives- think I sound similar to Deanna Carter. (and I HOPE NOT)
I think I just sound like myself. (not sure that's such a GOOD thing............... haha) I also think if you have a favorite singer, and play their songs constantly, you're voice kinda "adapts" itself to that singing style- and people will start telling you that you sound like them. Not that your "voice" is a perfect match- but you pick up on the way they pitch their voice, and end their words, etc.....
Cool thread anyhow- glad I came across this. Interesting to read everyone's views on their own voice.

My wife say's that I remind her alot of Don Williams, others tell me I sound alot like Toby Keith only with more energy. (A mix between Toby Keith, Travis Tritt and Don Williams)
I've been doing alot of George Strait lately, his songs are nice although I Have to drop the key down 2 to 3 half steps for most.

My favorite and best artist to cover would have to be Vince Gill. My vocal range is that of a tenor so this type of music suits me well. I can sing just about any style of music though country, blues, and rock, are my favorites.
I also do a pretty convincing job of singing Journey. The song "Faithfully" seems to be the favorite of both myself and the audience. Although these are
some of my favorites they are by no means the only things I sing. I try to sing different types of music, and to learn new songs when I can.

I just got home from an awesome night of Karaoke!! And I have discovered that I have a new favorite artist(s) that I feel that I sing best....or possibly it's just a new Genre that I should explore a lot more. Another possibility is that the the crowd was really drunk!
Anyways .... I did a few songs from the Musical Chicago.... "When You're Good To Mama" and "All That Jazz" I hit those two songs better than I imagined I would. "When You're Good To Mama" was a definite hit though! Does anyone know of any songs of that Genre that are in that approximate range and are upbeat? It was such a blast doing them.
I'm not too sure about posting edicate.... if this is too far off the subject, please e-mail me or PM me with replys.

This was a great question! I tell people I'm more of a mimic than a singer, so I do a lot of different stuff. Most close to my natural voice is The Moody Blues. I get a good response with Neil Diamond tunes. but my showstoppers are the ten or so Joe cocker songs I sing.

No, it isn't possible.
The largest recorded vocal range in history (I've researched it quite a bit) was 4 octaves (maybe a note or two over... they debate that issue), and a good example of that is Yma Sumac (gawd she has range!!)
