After purchasing Dozen's of discs, over the years, it's refreshing to purchase the desired tracks. How do you miss a Track? When you KNOW what you want.... You get it.

I think he's getting at is if you just buy the track instead of the disc because you personally may think it's filler or non-useable songs, the songs on that disc may actually get used more than you think.
I see exactly where you are coming from as well, get what singers request.  I do the same thing, but I think I would personally be limiting their options if that is all I got them to sing.  I have discs I bought for specific requests that have had other songs on that disc get sung more often than the actual request that I never had one request for in the past - could have been a 'missed' track.

By George, what he said!   I DO chech the song lists of the sets that I buty.  If it's worthwhile, I buy it. If it's all dupes, no.   I had a request for "Speed" by Montgomery Gentry. However, "Gone", which happens to be on the disc as well, is the one that proved most popular......

I remember purchasing Speed and Gone by Montgomery Gentry for .99 cents each.
GOT IT ON SPECIAL!  Now they go for $1.49 each.  (TRICERASOFT)
$2.00 Not Bad. No Duplicates or Fillers.
Just The Songs People Like To Sing!

Also:  Gig In and Gig Out!
Give The People EXACTLY What They Want To Sing...
THEY KEEP COMING BACK!!!!!!!!!
IT'S A NO BRAINER!

Therefore:
If You Stay On Top Of Your GAME!!
Purchase Requested Single Tracks to compliment your (SUBSTANTIAL) existing library....
It's Impossible To Limit Your Audience!

AND NO MORE DUPLICATES EVER!
Relentless Research, but Worth It!

Again, if you are careful your discs don't have to duplicate your library.  I now understand your frustration with duplicate titles, you essentially purchased 3 'core' libraries with the Foundations, the NuTech, & Essentials - right there you have massive duplication, over half of each set are basically dup'd with the other 2.  The Teen & Party packs have many dups to the Foundations as well.  Even the SGB set has many dups to the rest.  This is the problem with purchasing sets, you don't need every 'set' out there to get a good core library.

Biggest thing i've learned is what is popular at 1 show may not be the case in another (different crowds, different genre preference, different atmosphere in the club) - unless it is a very small town where you are pretty much one of the only shows.  What's hot across town may be a flop on the otherside.

I know I'm a bit late coming in to the discussion, but I'd like to add my pee to the pile.  LMAO Ooh that didn't sound right.

I used to think page protectors with binders were the only way to go, if your not computerized. It looks professional and should keep you books looking cleaner and neater.

I experimented with a couple different techniques and discovered when I used laminated covers and no page protectors the books lasted longer and were better looking than the binder method over time. It didn't make sense to me, but it's true. When I used page protectors moisture would get between the pages and actually mold and the binders would show the use more than the laminated covers. It took a while to fully convince me. I just couldn't believe the less expensive way was better.

The nice thing is it was so much cheaper to not use the page protectors and binders. Plus the books are a lot lighter to carry. Now when I update my new songs I simply make new books. the price is usually $20 - $25 a book. The key was using the right binding. If you use the thick plastic bindings the first few pages seem to tear out. Office Max uses more a spiral wire which works great. I haven't lost a page in six months and the books still look new.

The point is, I wouldn't have known  "Gone" would be more popular if I hadn't gotten it on the disc with "Speed".  It became popular when someone saw it in the book and sang it. Since there was no request, I never would have ordered it if I was buying a track at a time.

Which is essentially the point, not all popular/wanted songs are always necessarily requested!

If you go cheap you run the risk of looking cheap. Buying the cheapest binders to save money..they fall apart or the rings don't stay closed. I was using Avery binders...I am switching to Cardinal to see if they last any longer. Don't get the binders that have the one button easy ring opener...That just means it's easier to open when you want it to stay closed. Get a binder that requires two hands to open...  The only time my Avery rings stay closed is when I'm trying to put the pages back in... LMAO

Can anyone point me in the right direction (another post somewhere else in here, or a specific person to talk to) to get a kiosk started?  I'd at least like to try it.

PM Exweedfarmer, if it's known about kiosks, he can tell you about it....

XX...but if i came to your show, how would i know if your version is monster hits and i like soundchoice?
although my books are a bit heavier, i still put up to 3 versions and the manu code in case someone is used to, god forbid,a dk version. We play frisbee with the Nutech disks! LOL

a column with a manu code has helped me tremendously for dodging questions from our tourists and karaoke fanatics.

I fortunately only hand out 5 books per show total- 2 static and 3 can be lent to tables. This helps me keep a rhythm of the amount of slips i get per hour. Nothing is worse than having 50 slips near the end of the night because you put out too many books!!!!!!

Simple answer is that you should know that answer already without having to look it up.  I choose not to use disc ID's for the reason I want to get away from typing in disc ids just to find songs I have. I don't mind answering the question "do you have this version of Paradise by the dashboard lights".  My computer will tell me if I have it or not.  But then again my taste of what the best version probably differs from everyone else.  I'm a dk fan on that song.  It's the only one with the full lyrics all the way though (including the ending part). The only other version that got the ending (minus the baseball monolog) right was sunfly.

Okay Danny, that makes sense that you have a computer to look up your selection of manus, and want to get away from that. My books are 4 columns with the last column stating sc,dk,cb,zoom,etc....

I don't currently use my laptop for karaoke at work, only at home. And if i need to look to see if i have a dk version you prefer, then my master book (5 inch binder) has everything listed. It's pretty heavy, but i'm comfortable with it. Cheers! JR
