For some reason, 2fers are the norm in this area. That is how I was 'brought up' on karaoke, and how I keep it. I only cut to 1 song when I have over 15 singers. Even then I try to do new singer 2, old singer 1 till I go over 20 singers. It is painful when you have bad singers, but nice when you have ones that know what they are doing.
Wow, if I am in your area get me in early. A 12-14 singer rotation would be 2 hours to sing!

I do make exceptions in the 2fer for any song over 6 minutes (unless the 2nd song is like 3 mins or less). People here seem to get real agitated at one song tho. Must be a regional thing....
I was visiting Miami (really Coral Gables) and went to a nice place (I can't remember where, exactly). It was crowded, but karaoke was over in a corner, and it didn't look like karaoke was what the crowd was there for. Indeed, the KJ started late and said there were only a few singers so it would be a two-fer. The first three (all guys) got up, and each sang two 6+minute songs badly. One rendition of "Scenes from an Italian Restaurant" stands out as the most excruciating karaoke experience I have in memory.
I sang my two songs, both short, and the fairly significant non-singing crowd went pretty wild. I am not really that good, but I do have my moments and the contrast was probably pretty stark. I told the KJ I was leaving, with the late start and the two-fer. She said, oh please don't -- I will give you another turn after the next singer. So I sang two more songs again to a lot of applause. I guess if the prospect was those three guys again for more 6-minute dirges, I can see why the audience would go crazy for something simple and short like "Ace in the Hole" or "Lookin' Out My Back Door".
