I gotta agree about "The Pursuit of Happyness"

It was SUCH a good movie.... I cried as usual....

I'd cry if I had to watch that movie!  LMAO  (See?)

As for 300, that was a pretty great but flawed movie. It was, in my best movie critic language, "neat-o"

Pans Labyrinth is sub titled - I usually don't like subtitled movies because I think it takes away from the entertainment value, but this one was good.

I love foreign films and I would rather watch a sub titled version than a dubbed version. You just don't get the emotion of the original actor in their own language, just a substituted American version of it.

I prefer a lot of foreign films to domestic ones. Those movies that does not have a happy ending is fine with me. It used to be Japanese, French and Italian directors dominated the scene, look at Kurosawa, Truffaut and Fellini. However, I love the fact that new directors from China, South America and former Soviet block countries are turning out some great films. Pan's Labyrinth is just one of the example of new breed of South American directors making a mark. What's interesting is that they are actually making some American films as well, look at John Woo and Guillermo del Toro, who directed Pan's Labyrinth.

Back to classic foreign films. If you want to watch some great human behavior stories, watch Kurosawa. Some of Samurai period films I enjoyed include: Seven Samurai, Rashomon, Yojimbo, The Hidden Fortress, Dreams and Ran. Some of non-Samurai era must see: Ikiru, Rhapsody in August, Dodes-Kaden and his final film, Madadayo.

If you are in to film noir, Francois Truffaut is the guy. He invented the genre. His early stuff is pretty interesting but you may find them boring. He's been a prolific writer, director, producer and actor. You may remember him as the French government guy in the close encounter of the third kind.  Check out movies like the 400 blows or Man Who Loved Woman. Interesting stuff.

Well, Fellini is Fellini. He's done some wild movies but he's considered a genius. Some of films I watched and liked: 8 1/2, Satyricon, Roma, La Dolce Vita and Amarcord.

If you like movies that is not standard US affair of big budget of blowing things up, check out some of those movies.

I'm easy to please when it comes to movies.  I could watch King Ralph and Sixteen Candles a few times a year every year and never tire of these.. Well done comedy is all I like these days.  Watching reruns of "In Living Color" too.  I need stuff REALLY simple and light

Babs watches these movies that'd make me sleep with the lights on and female body-guards to scare away the ghosts and goblins if I watched the first five minutes of these horror movies.. Ever since I started watching the exorcist years ago, and heard the crash of thunder, and saw the wind blow the curtains I haven't been the same.. and that was the commercial before the movie started  :(

Exorcist was fantastic but the movie that scared me just as much as the Shining. I do love suspenseful movie, rather than blood and gory. Some movies do both well but suspense building, like the old Hitchcock movies, is just good for my old heart.

LMAO I'll protect you Kappy.

I just watched the Messengers. It was good. I'm just sick of the old storyline, ghosts in the house only the children see at first.

I rented the Fountain also. I'll let you know how it is.

I just saw 'Music and Lyrics' and that was vewy vewy cute! It stars Hugh Grant and Drew Barrymore. I would recommend that one.

If ya like silly, light-hearted, romantic comedies.

Yes, I heard that this movie was excellent. It's all subtitles though. I'm never crazy about working that hard when I'm watching a movie. But if it's that good, perhaps I'll give this one a shot. :ggof:

Eben,  Ever watch "The Vanishing" ?  Two versions, both good, the European version has a different ending, and the version made here with Jeff Bridges (and Keifer Sutherland)

Also,  if you enjoy twists and suspense one of the best I've seen is "Shattered" with Tom Berringer

The Fountain - 1 thumbs up, 1 thumbs down ( a romantic - scifi )

A bit confusing in the beginning, but explains itself by the end. You can't nap during this one or you'll be lost for sure.

I'm still not sure I liked it. It's like 2 movies tied into one. A lot of thought was put into this movie, but I think the story could have been told better.

Yeah, I'm with you on that.

I also LOVE the political romantic ones like "Dave" and "The American President".  I'll watch those movies once a month or so.... when I get REALLY bored and just need to sit back and be entertained... they're the first ones I think of!

Porn isn't allowed in Canby, Steven.  They check us at the city limits and the police make frequent rounds to monitor our viewing habits.  Maybe Charmin has access to some of this contraband, I'm not sure.

WTF? Don't you know talking about me while I'm not around is a class 1 offense and very punishable by Charmin-law?

I don't need porn, silly, my real life is quite full of enough of it.

My favorite two movies IN THE WORLD are:

Black Sheep

and

Tommy Boy

.... if you like that kind of movie. Those are my favs, they both star Chris Farley and David Spade. I've watched them tons of times and they never fail to make me laugh my arse off. They're comedy, but have good plots. I hate drama films, can't stand mushy crappy love stories, sometimes sci-fi is okay, and scary movies..... well, hell, they scare me.  :fright:   Can't watch those unless I have someone willing to let me sleep curled under their arm that night, Lol. I have bad dreams.  What a weenie I am.
I watched Nightmare on Elm Street..... and I REFUSED to close my eyes that night.
I watched Friday the 13th..... Was terrified that a "Jason" could stab me through the bed while I slept. (musta looked under it 10 times)
I watched Alien.... couldn't even bait my own hook with a worm forever, anything creepy crawly made me think of things coming out from my belly.

So I stick to happy funny comedy stuff;) Suits me fine.

Oh, and animated movies.... love 'em. For my birthday, Zach and Amber took me to see Shreck 3. Loved it. "Lady and the Tramp" is still one of my all time favorite movies too.

Oh, one more of my FAVS....

If you've never seen this, it's an oldie, but one of the best movies ever made:

A River Runs Through It.

Oh hell, I got another good one too:

Last of the Dogmen. (excellent movie.. and the main guy looks HOT in a cowboy hat)

I have seen both and liked them both. It's been a while since I saw them though.

I liked Dave, it was one of better performance by Kevin Kline, without him being totally goofy. Of course the best movie I have seen Sigourney Weaver is The Year of Living Dangerously, other than Aliens or Ghostbusters. Oh, goofiest comedy I have seen in a while is Galaxy Quest with Tim Allen. Tony Shalhoub was just too funny in that movie.

Question for those of you familiar with recent skit acting, and since I don't watch TV any longer I might be asking a foolish question, yet this has been tough for me to research with a few exceptions.

On Live Video. Flurl. You Tube and most video sites (mainly live video) there's a skit entitled "The Van Nuy's Guys", which is linked with the WeHo, and NoHo girls (W and N Hollywood), well perhaps at the expense of being foolish for the last two months or-so I thought these were amateur yet still schooled actors that hadn't made a name for themselves yet, but trained (and having studied acting I know these kids weren't untrained, but I didn't know just HOW trained) Perhaps College acting kids putting on skits (like any of us could submit to these sites) however something seemed a little too captivating about these skits, and too well done (although probably B or C ranked acting skits)...  Upon future research I found that Kira Brister is an actress named Ashley McCarthy, (I never watched any of the goofy comedic movies over the last 5 years) and these kids (eddie Brister, Cliff Mimosa, and I guess McCoy ??) are tied in with some guy named Charlie Cobb who also has "FlashBash" ? which has these same actors but the acting is a step up by far in terms of actors in Flashbash...  This is what weirded me out, and it's likely a typo.. I was trying to find out who this eddie brister is as an actor, who cliff mimosa might've been {perhaps MTV early 20's actors} and it had this kid I always assumed to be Eddie Brister labeled as Rob Lowe in a photo.  That can't be. Check out Eddie Brister in Van Nuy's Guys, and tell me this is Rob Lowe.  Or is there a Rob Lower Jr, or different Rob Lowe all-together.. This isn't a young Rob Lowe either, it can't be 20 years old.. Ashley McCarthy isn't listed as old at all.

http://photo.livevideo.com/photo/0B5513 ... avid-.aspx

Now this is Eddie Brister acting ?  How the hell can this be Rob Lowe ?
http://www.livevideo.com/video/VanNuysG ... 07-07.aspx

http://www.livevideo.com/FlashBash

Any of you know who these folks are ?  Also,  There's a photo of this Eddie brister guy who's a regular in the Van Nuy's Guys next to this Kirby listed as Rob Lowe. This can't be correct. But I don't know who these kid actors and actresses are.  Is this a local cable group out in Southern Ca ?  Never made it here to the East unless it's something on now, and I just miss it since I don't watch TV... OR, is this pilot advertising for what will soon be TV series ?  B rank acting trying to get a foot in the door via the net ?   Dunno..

For those of you want to see a great acting performance by Peter O'toole, check out the movie called Venus. I absolutely loved it. It was one of best performance by O'toole since Lawrence of Arabia, at least in my opinion.

I just joined a site called www.jaman.com. It's a site where you can watch some interesting indie films. If you are interested in indie films, check it out.

Movie update -

Transformers - AWESOME ! I loved it

Diehard (The new one) - Better than I was expecting. The same old invisible Bruce willis does it again.

Knocked Up - typical romantic comedy, done well.

Oceans 13 - I love the interaction between the veteran actors. Very entertaining.

Fantastic Four - Comparable to the 1st one. It was what I was expecting. The Silver surfer was cool.
