what about system restore?  that helped me on more than one occasion, and it is EASY!  also go to yur CONTROL PANAL, AUDIO, Sound DEVICES, and look thru everything making sure nothing seems out of place.  Are all your HARDWARE devices turned on?  Are your speaker settings correct?  look thru this area, change one thing, check it, then if nothing happens, change it back.

But system restore is a great lifesaver, try it.  if you don't know how, use he search function to look for it, then just press the SYSTEM RESTORE when it is found, than restore it back to a time efore the problem started.  let us knkow what happens.

Barely woke up in time.

Motherboard Model- First International Computer AZ11E

I thought it was onboard but I may have misinterpreted the definition. My apologies if that's the case. My big problem is the computer was set up for us, so I wasn't exactly sure what got tossed in there a few years back, and what some of it does.

Looks like more good info too, so I'll give it a go tonight after karaoke. Thanks again!

Tried everything, and still no cooperation from audio :(.

Going back to your info Jerry, I went with the Safemode deletions and Windows didn't re-update after reboot. If this info will help, it's Windows 2000 Professional with a Creative 5880 AudioPCI "Sound Chip" that was listed in the "Sound Summary" section.

I would asume that PCI means PCI.  And Creative/soundblaster did use the Ensoniq chipset on some of it's cards.

Ahhhh, get where your coming from.
Yes, PCI is the bus, not the card.
Most onboard sound uses the PCI bus.

Still not getting anywhere.
On one of the pages it has download driver CD, but dosnt.
Apparantly all your drivers are on a CD shipped with the system.
http://www.fic.com.tw/contact/technical_support.aspx
is Tech support with a telephone No.
Your Driver will be on your system in either
Windows\inf or Windows\inf\other.
Good luck

Problem solved!! Just wanted to say thanks to everybody for their help!

My girlfriend read this thread and fixed it while I was at work last night... and she refuses to tell me how she did it! LMAO  LMAO  LMAO

Thinks she's finally proving that I'm hopeless without her. LOL

Yeah, I tried doing System Restore, but it didn't look like any of the devices were having trouble when I was looking through the hardware listings.

Girlfriend thinks this is really funny now, and said she won't release the secret to me until after Valentines Day. LOL

Jusat as a funny side not.  I was woring for a company as a delivery person, and the 2 girls in the office got a audio attachment in a eamil from a coprate sectary.  Bot the girls in the office were leaing into the computer right up against the speakers to hear the audio.  I asked them what they were doing, cause it looked kinda weird.

Anywho they explained they couldn't hear the audio, it was barely audiable.  So Icheeck the PC volume setting, shcecd to see if the sound card was woring in the device manager, and check to see if the speakers were plugged into the right spot on the back of the tower.  Everyting was OK.  THen I looked on the side of the speakers, and tured up the volume knob.  TADA, sound!!!!!!!!!

Laughed so hard about peed my pants.

I can beat that...
While working field service, I had to drive 50 miles to Siemens.
Yes... Siemens.
The receptionist could not switch her puter off.
Over the phone I asked her to keep the On/Off switch pressed in a good 5 sec.
An hour later. 'Oh sorry, possibly I only kept it pressed in for 4 sec.

Another.
I drove 90 miles to a Customs & Excise site to plug a mouse in.
They wernt allowed to.
