SS is not moderated, unlike the forum. Maybe what SS need is a mod.or two and a form of fast system to comunicate with them.
How could this be abused, Jian? Are you referring to the idea that maybe they'd get rid of the bad, and that would make them look like a wonderful singer?
If that is the case..... and yes, perhaps some might be manipulative enough to try to do that ........ then maybe a better idea is the other one proposed........ and that was an "approve this comment" ...... button..... much like is done on MySpace .... at on several other "comment style" boards. Once you've approved it ...... it stays... in this case ...... but at least with an "approve" option ...... you'd get the critque and decide if it was one you wished to have shared publically. We've talked in other threads about having all critques done thru PM ...... but an "approve this comment" option would, in essence, be exactly that. It would be like getting several PM's .... and deciding which (if any) you chose to share with the public. It might also help stop some of the "jumping on a bandwagon" stuff that seems to occur. I've seen it happen several times..... where a critque is posted, and then someone else critiques the critique ...... rather the song they are listening to. This seems to me to be a HUGE problem around here. At least with the "approve" option, all readers would know that the singer was okay with the comments and wouldn't feel the need to "jump" on the critiquer.
Just a lot of food for thought. But I'm beginning to really really Like the 'approve comment" option. So what if someone makes themself look wonderful. Everyone has ears ... and judges that stuff on their own anyway. William Chang could have 23 wonderful comments, and it wouldn't make him a good singer ........ right?

Actually CC its an excellent idea because those that are just there for the fluff would be apparant in a matter of a couple of subs.
I do also feel that the way comments are editable yet replies arent is a strange way of doing things given a small proportion of people that abuse the editing option constantly.

Shotgun CC @ Tue Jan 16, 2007 2:01 pm wrote: I THINK your shirt says, GETOVERIT???? Im OLD .... the vision is really going!! But... that is what it looks like to me, Kelley! I've been around this place for about 3 yrs...... and yes, typically speaking .... it does take 's attention and whatever it is he has to do ...... to bring around changes that are suggested. Actually Odie .... when I got here ...... things were different ...... and some suggestions made in the forums did eventually come to fruition. For instance .... This entire submission process was revamped. Rank/Critique Submission? Yes No (still allows comments) Allow Comments? Yes No Theme of Week? Yes No Before this, all subs were open to critique. THEN...... when things started to get "hot" and people started to feel hurt, stalked, or offended (and let me tell ya, it wasn't just those receiving the critques ..... but those GIVING them as well that got raked over the coals) that is when the option for whether you wanted a critque or not was implemented. I saw that Luly suggested that there should be a way in which the submitter could delete a nasty or inappropriate critque. I think this is a good idea. It certainly would put a stop to those that intentionally say very hurtful things. They may get to post their comment, but it wouldn't stay visible for very long ...... which MIGHT really help lift the morale around here again. However, I do think that sometimes its important for a person wanting to be critiqued to receive and appreciate some of the "not so favorable" comments ..... as long as they aren't insulting or attacking. If done with kindness and well stated, those kinds of comments probably SHOULD stay on a "critique" submission ...... after all, the person has asked for "critique" .... which usually implies ......... Tell me what you like and DISLIKE about this performance. How should I change it..... What should I leave alone. But............ any way .......... the answer, ODIE ....... is to start the thread with ........ we are making suggestions here ........ or something along those lines to get his attention .... and if enough people are in favor of the change ..... he will try to get things shaking. At least, that is how it used to be. I haven't been around much this year..... so Im not sure if things have changed a lot or not.
Thanks for the history lesson Cindy. I took your advice in the thread title too.

Cool. I like that too. If Phill could get that done maybe things will go a little better and we wouldn't need as much policing.

I've often thought just having the comments/number of comments hidden would solve a lot of problems, both from a standpoint of personal feelings and any acrimony arising from the comments. I discovered, quite by accident a way of leaving suggestions that might not be taken too well (although I am considerate of any critiques I give) on the submission comment without anyone but the person it is addressed to seeing. Seems to work out quite well...I make what I feel might be a helpful suggestion and the person feels no sense of embarassment from having others look at it. It involves the use of a symbol before the sentence.

That's a good question Vicki. If we're going to have song comment editing, why can't the singer himself edit his own replies? That seems goofy.

CC have a good one but still, a Mod may be needed there. Like when some one sub an XXX rated song and a song intro that is not aproprated.

Yes... Jian ...... you are right. There are those cases where inappropriate songs are posted or introductions contain questionable cotent ... that should be consider as well. It might be a very good idea to have someone (or a few) that read and listen to every sub .... though WOW........ what a job that would be, huh?

Seems like there's already been enough "abuse" doled out and I'm not pointing any fingers. I don't want to get involved in any squabbles cuz y'all are my friends and I'm keeping it that way. I already said on Charmin's thread that this feature could lead to having nothing but wonderful comments and only 10's on your subs if you know how to manipulate the feature, but who cares? If that's your thing, do what you wanna do (now who sang that? LOL) I asked if we could take a vote and I'm still waiting for some kinda answer on that. Delete or Preview before approving and maybe even a Report button for the xxx ones. We need SOMETHING, cuz it's getting seriously disgusting. I've stuck around for quite some time even after a lot of crap has hit the fan here and would like to see something new added to help make this site a little better.

Can someone start a thread with a vote option?
I would offer but I still think I start too many threads.

Phill once told me that if I wanted to get information to the admins and to be seen quicker.. To place it in the Admin thread. I would suggest though that if you have a complaint give a solution to the complaint.. Otherwise everyone will just look like a bunch of whiners....
i.e. I don't like it when someone is really mean on SS in a comment. Solution: Enable the user to delete unwanted comments from their own subs.

Just thinking the very same thing Sharon.
It's cool Odie, I think Luly is going to give it a try.

Luly and Sharon are right. The more I think about it, this is the most obvious change in SS that could be made. This alone may be half the battle right there.
