it mentioned in the email that it had something to do with K-S, but I wasn't sure. i was gonna wait to see if anyone else got the email before i sent it to phil. as for only vertain folks getting the email, i guess only those on the singers showcase got it? dunno, but unfortunately, i don't have enough hours in the day to enter such a contest.....it would cut into my forum time, and we CAN'T have that!

Hey Kap, now I'm really bummed out. Not only did I not get an e-mail invitation to join this Bix contest thing, I now find out that my close personal friend Barr Jude Iwele is cheating on me with you.
The nerve of these guys. I'm just about to send him my birthdate, social security number, passwords, bank account numbers and everything so I can collect the money, and he's in cahoots with you. I was certain that it was just me and ole' Barr Jude all the way. Kinda makes you lose faith in humanity.
There is no justice in this world!!!!!!!

My name is Stewart Bonn and I am one of the founders of Bix. I apologize for all the confusion and suspicion that has been generated by something that we intended to be fun.
We started Bix because we believe that there are many talented people that would like a well-run place for them to showcase that talent that utilizes state of the art software technology. Their talent can be either singing, playing instruments, creating art/photos, and telling jokes/stories. Our goal is to create a high quality and democratic place where talent gets exposure without jumping through lots of hoops.
The Karaoke part of our site utilizes recordings by SoundChoice. We are working with the music publishers and the composer's rights agencies to insure that we have an environment that is respectful of the creative folks who tunes we are using and is 100% legal.
We also decided that we wanted to support video performances. This required securing additional rights but we felt that giving a face to a performance will make it much more interesting to the performers and viewers. However, we also offer audio only Karaoke.
We have not yet opened the site to the public. What we have done is invite groups of people that we thought would have fun with the site. That was how I found KaraokeScene. I contacted the folks at KS to explore how we might work together because we were very impressed with their commitment to Karaoke and the integrity of how they did business. They were very protective of their users but realized that our intentions were sincere.
That was where the idea of inviting the Singer's Showcase to our site originated. In addition, we were concerned that you had already spent plenty of money on your equipment and may not have a webcam so we offered webcams to those who might not have them. A handful of you have already emailed me and should be having fun with them in a few days. All we ask in return is that you use the webcam to share your talent with the rest of our members.
Go to Bix.com by clicking on the link in the email KaraokeScene sent you and you will see Peter Parker (publisher of KS) and Manny Pacheco tell you about the contest.
In the coming issue of KaraokeScene magazine, you will see our add announcing another contest in conjunction with KaraokeFest. Bix is also one of the platinum sponsors of Karaokefest. We will be at the LA Expo and I hope that some of you will stop by an introduce yourself.
I hope you will take the time to explore our site and let us know what you think. Feel free to email me at stewart@bix.com
Phew.

We are not open to the public yet because the site is not finished.
In particular, there are over 800 high quality recordings from SoundChoice but we will have many more in 3 to 6 months after all the lawyers get finished arguing with one another. We hope you will bear with us in the meantime and have fun with what we have now. Rest assured we are committed to having a GREAT library but we know what we have now is not good enough yet.
There are also lots of other things we are going to do to make the site much better but we believe there is enough fun stuff to make it available to the adventurous. You also may encounter an occasional bug which is unfortunate but the nature of the beast. We apologize for this inconvenience but please tell us about what happened so we can fix it.
If it's not finished then why did we invite the Singer's Showcase?
Because we need your help to determine when we are ready for the public. We value your experience and opinions about Karaoke which is why it is so important to us for you to tell us what you think. You can do that either by sending me an email, posting on our forum (accessed when you are logged into Bix.com), and posting on this board which I will read, as well.

I tried to sub a song today for the contest, I recorded it, was happy with it... then when I went to upload it didn't work and my song was lost I was more than a bit disappointed.

I am sorry you recorded a performance and then lost it. We have fixed lots of bugs in the last few months but that one we have not seen.
Just to clarify how it is SUPPOSED to work after you have selected a song... first select RECORD, then select STOP or wait until it gets to the end of the tune, then you can either PREVIEW to see what was just recorded or CREATE ENTRY which submits your entry. The next screen you should see says "Congratulations."
Obviously this is not what happened in your case. Please give it another try (but you don't need to give it your all) and get to the part where you select CREATE ENTRY. If you see "Congratulations" then select SEE YOUR ENTRY from the next page and then you can REMOVE ENTRY so nobody has to see your test.
If this does not work consistently , please call me at 650-281-1171 tomorrow (after 8am PDT) and we'll get one of our ace engineers to get to the bottom of this.
Again, I apologize for the inconvenience but appreciate your helping us get to the bottom of this.

That was my mistake. I was so concerned about making sure everything was working on our end that I totally spaced on posting here.

I am sorry if you did not get an invitation. However, anyone who did get invited and registered at the site is able to invite any of their friends simply by logging into Bix and selecting "Invite Friend to Bix" in the upper right corner. They will get the same kind of email.
Or you can email me and I'll invite you (Stewart@...)
BTW, all we ask when you register is an email address and then you make up a username and password.

Howdy Stewart: My only suggestion is to push in a few more Sinatra, Dean Martin, popular standards/show tunes types of songs on your site. I found one Sinatra tune, "Something Stupid", which is not really a Sinatra tune (not with Nancy on it!) and a Nat King Cole song. You might want to take a moment and look through the listing of songs on Singer's Showcase to get a nice representation of the material popular on this site currently. There are quite a few of us jokers who like singing these songs! Looking forward to submitting my entries in the near future,
Michael
