Soliciting at another karaoke show is tasteless in my book. I do not have an issue with KJ's pitching a show where I play, however, since last I heard this was still the United States of Northern Mexico and we allow free enterprise and competition.
Most of the KJs in my area are good folks, and we visit each others' shows on the rare night off (how sick is THAT--get a night off from karaoke and go to a karaoke show!) When a "competing" KJ is at my shouw I'll almost always give a shout out when they are done singing, something like, "Give it up for southpaw of big noise karaoke. When I get a night off of work, you can probably find me singing at one of his shows."
I think that would make him less likely to try and stab you in the back.
However, the folks you are talking about sound like your typical lowballer types who can't seem to build a client base on their own so they'll try to steal yours for a few bucks less per night. Don't worry, those guys are never around for long! Plus, you can then come back to your old shows for more money once the owners realize the error of their ways! Punish them for showing you the door!
