A long time ago in eigth grade shop class, I shot my teacher in the cheek with a wadded piece of paper from a rubber band(in front of the whole class)....he was a good sized black gentleman, and he was mad as hell. He said "Mo, you crazy foo, get out of my class room right now, and don't come back." I looked at him and said"I sorry Mr. Smith, I wasn't aiming for your face".....he said" OK Mo, go back on the saw, and I'll give you some swats after class"...which he did, and nothing else was ever said. Many of the teachers I had throughout my life, operated in that fashion....and violence in schools was unheard of.......the more security you have, the less security you have.....the child solicitor from National Security will probably get less punishment than the kid with the paper clip.......jj

When I first heard this news story, all I could think was: "The Inmates Are Running The Asylum"

A six year old boy in Detroit called 911 last Feb. 20 to ask for help because his Mom had passed out on the floor. She had a known heart condition and she had instructed her son how to call 911 in case anything like this happened to her. He was the only other person at home. The 911 operator insisted on talking to his Mom or some other adult. Well there wasn't anybody else around. The operator refused to send help. Frustrated, the little boy just hung up the phone. After thinking about it some more and hoping that his Mom would wake up, he decided to call 911 again. He got the same response of "I need to talk to an adult". The operator then threatened to get the boy in trouble because she was sure this was just a prank call. The boy insisted it wasn't and hung up because he was now afraid he'd get in trouble. Help was finally sent in response to his call THREE hours later. But, his mother had died.
Are 911 operators allowed to make mistakes because "they're only human", are having a bad day, or have just become too cynical? There are a lot of prank calls, but.....

geez, Odie that story makes me ill!
Yes, I'm sure it costs a lot of money and headache to send an ambulance to a prank call, but come on..
what's worth more.... 900 prank calls or that little boy's mother?
of course, there's the possibility of not having enough ambulances to make every call, but for cryin out loud.... at least TALK to the child.... maybe they could have walked him through CPR....(if CPR was needed) some kids are SO much smarter than we give them credit for.....and if not...maybe the operator could have convinced him to go ask a neighbor for help.... ANYTHING would have been better than saying "sorry, you're just a kid"

Dark Side - Light Side :
There is now chitter-chatter from the White House about intervening militarily into Iran ---
possibly even using tactical nuclear weapons. Come on! Can't we put off the end of the world
for a little while longer?!! It's Spring time! Can't you guys let your hair down?....oh, no hair left.
How 'bout loosen your ties and just go nuts?.....yeah you've covered the nuts part already......
Well, just give it a rest for a bit.
Gwyneth Paltrow has named her son Moses. Someday this lad will get to choose
between explaining he was named after a biblical figure or shortening the name to Moe
and saying Mom was a big Three Stooges fan. Tough choices for today's kids.....

She might as well have another daughter named Orange. "Which of your daughter's is smarter?" "Well that's hard to say, you're comparing Apple's and Oranges"

Well, I was all set for a third season of the Chappelle Show after Comedy Central started advertising it at the first of the year. But, it looks like it ain't gonna happen after all. :( This was a very funny, clever show!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dave Chappelle: Why I Walked Away
Thursday, April 13, 2006; Posted: 5:10 p.m. EDT (21:10 GMT)
Dave Chappelle says he has several reasons for walking away from a $50 million deal.
LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- Dave Chappelle says in a new interview that he had several reasons for walking away from his cult-fave "Chappelle's Show" -- and a deal worth more than $50 million.
His decision to leave the Comedy Central series last May led fans and industry executives to question his motives, and his sanity.
But in a 10-page spread in the Esquire magazine arriving Saturday, he says he closed "Chappelle" for reasons cultural, professional and personal.
Culturally: "The bottom line was, white people own everything, and where can a black person go and be himself or say something that's familiar to him and not have to explain or apologize?"
Professionally: "I felt like I was really pressured to settle for something that I didn't necessarily feel like I wanted."
Personally: "The thing about show business is that, in a way, it forces dysfunctional relationships in people."
Chappelle tells the magazine that putting on "Chappelle's Show" was the best television experience he ever had. He plans to continue telling jokes and entertaining audiences, he says, so long as he can retain a degree of personal and creative freedom.

Bush: "Rumsfeld is exactly what is needed'
Statement of support follows chorus of criticism from generals
Friday, April 14, 2006; Posted: 5:05 p.m. EDT (21:05 GMT)
Donald Rumsfeld, this week with Gen. Peter Pace, has come under fire from retired senior officers.
"Earlier today I spoke with Don Rumsfeld about ongoing military operations in the Global War on Terror," Bush said in a written statement released by the White House. "I reiterated my strong support for his leadership during this historic and challenging time for our Nation.".............
Six retired generals, including three who commanded troops in Iraq under Rumsfeld's leadership, have publicly stated their criticism of Rumsfeld's leadership and called for his resignation.

CNN reports that there is an online video game called Border Patrol where you
earn points by killing illegal immigrants as they try to cross the border. This includes
pregnant women with their children in hand. You think maybe our kids are getting some wrong ideas about problem solving?

I watched as Rumsfield said......six generals out of the thousands of admirals and generals that we have......do we have thousands of generals?....thousands that have attained this uppermost rank.......sounds like too many chiefs and not enough Indians.......please, nobody say he didn't say or mean this.....I saw it......jj
