All new vehicles are designed to crumple like that.....It absorbs the energy of the crash....Looks bad fersure, but note that the passenger compartment is not compromised.

ummmm......how can you tell? i can't even see the passenger compartment! i realize most cars now-a-days are built with crumple zones, but this is a hummer. look at the dodge. who do you think got the worst of the crash?

You know your Triumph's Jeanne. I didn't even recall the spider by "Triumph". I thought Fiat, Alfa Romeo, and a few other car makers had a "Spider" model, but I had to look it up...

well, let's put it this way....that whole front end is about the size of my car, so yeah, i'd say so! actually, it looks like the hummer got the worse end of the deal there, i'm surprised the truck didn't sustain more damage than it did...

No Jeanne Triumph put out many model's dating WAY back to the early days of auto's..I think they also reissued antique "relic's" of the old cars, possibly in the 80's til present. The Spider is a separate model that Triumph put out. I put a link a few posts up of Triumph's history, and models.. I wasn't aware there were quite so many.
Does anybody recall whether or not it was deemed that the MG Midget, and Triumph Spitfire were potentially much more dangerous than motorcycles on the road ? I know of two cases in HS where kid's were killed in accident's involving the Spitfire.

Jerry, I was reading on one of the Ultralight boards a sad story regarding a pilot who decided to try his luck with an Ultralight Speaking of dangerous. I guess people that want to get into Ultralights, similar to those into Hang-gliding really need to have an extensive knowledge of wind conditions, currents, and lower level disturbances that directly affect the terrain they are flying in.. No margin for error.

Look at the way those two vehicles are facing, The Hummer pushed back the truck, but the damage of the hummer doesn't make sense based on a simple collision with the truck given the resting positions and the debris field assuming those two vehicles were all involved. That's not a rational resting positioning based on initial impact with just that truck given damage of both vehicles and the skidmarks that pushed the truck back. For that same front corner to be bashed like that, that had to happen at an intersection. Look at the tire tracks leading to the truck, something doesn't make sense about that accident, and vehicle layout. That Hummer was damaged by more than just that one truck. They didn't approach each other from opposite lanes, assuming they did, opposite front quarters would've collided, not the passenger side on both.. There've got to be more vehicles that were involved in that accident. Something more's involved. I don't think the Hummer got that kind of damage from initial impact with THAT truck. JMO

steven, two vehicles coming at each other would have damage to the same side, most likely the driver's side, since they were facing each other, but if both vehicles swerved to miss, then the passenger side would be caved in as in the picture. now, i wasn't present during this particular accident so i can't say for sure, but that's what i see.
the shadows of both vehicles are consistent so it does not seem that the photo has been altered. in my "expert" opinion, i would say that the dodge dually was traveling away from the camera angle toward the intersection and that the hummer was traveling toward the camera, away from the intersection. the dodge was possibly turning left into a driveway that is not in the picture, causing the humer to swerve to the inner lane. the two vehicles collided on the passenger side spinning both so as to be facing the same direction.
(my expert opinion is based on my father's insight as a retired police officer) perhaps, keith could give us his view on this. i understand he has a background in police work also.

That's true Steve. Problem is the same side on each car is the Passenger side, and the truck was hit in it's own lane, that's what's consistent with the skidmarks at the accident scene, and the final resting place of both vehicles, the debris field, (and the way the Hummer would've spun out assuming it's resting as the result of initial impact with just that one vehicle is wrong, it's not consistent with it's imact). I don't think the collision with that truck is what caused the damage. There had to be prior impact to the Hummer. The Hummer is in the wrong lane, and has spun out in TOO bizarre a pattern. Unless the Hummer was doing some weird off-road pattern, yet even so, something's not Kosher in a head-on collision assuming that was just a two car collision (I don't think) anything could've happened like that, because the Hummer wouldn't have sustained that type damage given THAT trucks skid pattern. That appears like impact from an intersection collision, assuming the Hummer ran a stop sign, or light, or there was more involved with different momentum. Yet something's not right assuming it's just those two cars IMO. The Truck wasn't hit in a different lane Steve. Look at the Skidmarks. It was hit in it's own lane by the Hummer on the PASSENGER side, and pushed back, that's what's so bizarre. That's one of the things that doesn't make sense to me. The Hummer couldn't have hit that truck on the passenger side and sustained damage from THAT collision given the skdimarks we see (that's just not normal head-on colliding) assuming the truck passed in front of the Hummer in the Hummer's lane, that couldn't have happened IMHO....nor would the Hummer have "Spun out" like that from that impact unless it collided from a VERY wrong driving position, and was driving extremely fast on a wrong lane, or maybe even the sidewalk. I don't think that can be what smashed in the Hummer. Both vehicles wouldn't be positioned like that in any normal driving pattern with such damage to a vehicle like a Hummer. The Hummer HAD to have struck something more than just that truck... (I think)

Maybe the hummer crashed into something ELSE that's not in the picture.... like... say.... a brick wall.......... and the truck just rear-ended it.... after all.... you dont see the back of the hummer.... there might only be a bitty little dent back there compared to the truck's damage
somebody might have said that already, but I'm too lazy to read those massive posts! haha!

Quote: Maybe the hummer crashed into something ELSE that's not in the picture
Something else did happen not in the picture IMHO..
. Can you imagine two vehicles heading into the same brickwall.. (They didn't see it coming towards them) . Nah, I think the truck WAS hit and knocked back in it's own lane, and hit hard enough to knock the wheel well in the same manner the Hummer's wheel well was smacked VERY hard. The skidmarks appear as though the truck MIGHT'VE been hit by the Hummer too in roughly that location. But the road marks around the Hummer's front don't show alot of skidding activity. Something's too weird about that given that collision (with just those two vehicles) and the angle and impact that careened the Hummer knocking it THAT hard at that angle (look at the wheel well). The angles of damage to both vehicles, and their resting place don't make sense assuming THAT'S where the only collision happened. (At least that's how I see it ). So yes, something else happened not in the picture.
It looks as though damage occurred to both vehicles as the result of impact to that same front passenger quarter panel though. At least from looking at the Hummer's damage (I'm assuming the Hummer was smacked at front corner from roughly a 90 degree angle, which would make sense in an intersection collision) but the way the truck was knocked back is too strange. (given the same passanger side front quarter's smashed). The skidmarks knocking the truck back in it's own lane throw me off (which is why I don't think the Hummer was damaged that much by that truck given the debris field of the Hummer, the resting positions of the vehicles (assuming nothing was moved from the initial impact scene and we are seeing all there is also vehicle resting angles), debris around Hummer given initial strong impact like that, and road markings (from what little I can see) around the vehicles. Something just doesn't make sense assuming something else didn't happen that isn't in the photo as you suggest. It looks too much like an intersection collision IMHO, yet the skidmarks and passenger quarter panel damage to BOTH are what's confusing the heck out've me. UNLESS that photo was taken from another intersection really close to the one we see behind the vehicles. and there're damaged vehicles around the camera man we don't see. Yet even so, something's wrong about the road conditions around the front of the Hummer. The road doesn't have enough skid markings given the Hummer's damage at that spot...
Just doesn't make sense to me.
