Don,  I believe this room is a place that is "G" rated in essence, suitable for ALL ages... Which naturally would bring it down to that common denominator... "G"..

Yet to many of us,  Karaoke isn't a "memorex happy face" tape machine with a plastic microphone at a 5 year old's birthday party...  To most of us here Karaoke means nightclub, or bar, and certainly not the "G" rated setting..  So it seems that the KS staff can have it both ways... Just by adding a PG-13 area perhaps allowing for some of the "strange humor" you mentioned that manifests itself via double entendre, etc... A place where we can have fun as we've been,  because realistically we've been VERY lucky.. LMAO

I tried that once.  It still didn't work.  Maybe I didn't stay in long enough!  LOL

Steven ~  Do you want to be able to use the "Seven words you can't say on television" instead of just implying them?  Or is different topics that you're after?
Maybe we aren't as sophisticated here in Canby as y'all are in the big city!  LOL

I'm just playing the devil's advocate.  Can I say devil here?

I've been having probs getting into KS today, Was posting a response, and got the white screen.....

Here's what I typed;

Actually Don,  It has nothing to do with wanting to talk about anything other than the subject matter we've been talking about.  Obviously the "G" isn't CURRENTLY being enforced, yet since the rules read
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Quote:
All posts should be suitable for reading by minors.
You agree not to post any abusive, obscene, vulgar, slanderous, hateful, threatening, sexually-oriented or any other material that may violate any applicable laws.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm thinking it's the element of freedom,  that jump-started this room a few months back. It's also great that we've been allowed such freedoms, and things haven't been strict..  The fact that we are allowed to have this much fun without getting castigated constantly is great,  yet still.. Rather than us feeling we are "pushing things",  I'm thinking people DO want to be able to relate the way we've all been chatting and relating the past few months... That wouldn't have to stop assuming we had an area where we are allowed to carry on as we have been..It hasn't been overly vulgar, obscene, expletives haven't been used, yet it wouldn't be a matter of constantly walking "a fine line", if the adults were allowed to be adults without worrying about "minors not understanding"... Yet maybe I'm incorrect,  does the above imply ?  I've heard this is a "G" site, yet the closest I find in the rules is what a entered here ...Does this appear to be "G" rated ??

Yes, perhaps it is a good idea to have a separate "adult" forum.  Right now this forum is probably at a strong PG-13.

As far as these stated rules go, SOME people might think the obscene or vulgar category has been entered into a few times.  Technically, I don't think it has.  Things haven't gotten that explicit.

So, maybe to make it easier on the posters and moderators, a new category with more "freedom of expression" would be a good thing.  But could you have a "no rules" adult forum section?  I kind of doubt it.  Would people want this?  Hmmm....

Don,  kind've like the discussion we're have right now over in Karyoker's thread... If people want to blow off some steam ocassionally about rediculous aspects of the world and government.... My post really isn't suitable for "minors".... It discusses views on pot for instance, and how some laws are stupid.. This is what I had in mind regarding not having to worry about "But what about the minors listening" for those of us that are here for social reasons and are in a VERY different part of our life than minors regarding "Discussion areas", If WE had a strict or enforced gag order on all we said, it wouldn't benefit the site because some of the most helpful people here,  also like to discuss other things as well as tech stuff, music etc....So most would socialize and join elsewhere, the forums wouldn't be active.. THe current activity is adults talking about THEIR area's of interest and concern, Adults can say certain things that AREN'T vulgar, yet they also aren't suitable for minors to hear from us...

Ummmm.......... this place is supposed to be G rated??

Hmmmm, is THAT why I got my arse chewed on a few weeks ago??

In all seriousness, I don't feel I've ever crossed the G line here........ close, but no cigar.  :D

And congrats on your post count Steven....... you seem to be up for all the Grammy's here at KS. Geez, I don't even have half that many, and I thought I was a blabber mouth lately.

Next time I need a report written, I'll call ya & you can type it for me, then send it via email for me to print. ACTUALLY....... I need to vamp up my resume, mine is pretty simple & boring, and I'm getting ready to REALLY start applying for some jobs. I could use your typing skills & your wit. (you know, to build me up in my resume, so they couldn't HELP but hire me)  :D  Charmin reallllyyyy needs a job.

Isn't there about one floor of Neuschwanstein Castle that is in decent shape,  and the rest is crumbled ?   or something like that ?  I vaguely recall reading someplace that tourists that visit the castle really don't have a vast area to explore and look in because it's in much better exterior condition than the crumbled remains of the upper floors inside ?

Yes, there is one main floor where tourists can veiw the inner halls, galley rooms, dinning area, and out back behing the structure is a beautiful garden and landscape. The main road leading to the castle takes about 20 minutes ofr so to hike up to the castle, unless of course one decides to take the easy trip on carriage.

In retrospect there was nothing easy about most of school.  Sad thing is, most of us WERE able to absorb, and retain more in those days, than we can today.  Not sure what happens after around 25 years of age or-so.. But how many middle-aged people would be able to pass the highschool, or college courses that were mandatory to take when we were 16-21 assuming we had to absorb and retain such a workload today ? Even Jr high memorization.   It's bad enough that I can't retain proper spelling of words I use MUCH more frequently today, (not to mention english comp) that I recalled and memorized when I was only 1/4 as old as I am now...

Does our mind slow down as we get older ?   or do we become inundated, and reach a saturation point at some period ?  You ever take a course like even basic chemistry,  or especially Anatomy and physiology with a tremendous memorization load ?   Do you think you could memorize such content today ?  I never could today, and that was one of 4 or 5 courses we had to take....

True on being able to retain most of what we studied in younger years. I feel as time goes by it has something to do with long-term vs. short-term memory. Things that took place in one's life many years ago may only seem like yesterday, whereas it might be more difficult per say to remember where you placed your keys 5 minutes ago. Anatomy and memorizing was a breeze when I was younger, but if I do not utilize such terms and definitions in my daily life today, then my ability to recall these facts lessens over time. Just for an example: I was challenged by a teacher in 6th grade years ago to memorize and recite all of the presidents, as well as attempting to beat her time on repeating them as fast as I could. She was able to say them all in 15 seconds, so I racked my brain and my mouth memorizing them and did it in 11 seconds. I know!!! my lips and my brain are not at that speed now!!

Thing's such as time and memory...are really bizarre aspects of life... we accept them, but don't really know what they are...  Can time exist without memory ?  Time is man created,  isn't it ?  Is memory "fact" ?   There are no witnesses....Is anything real aside from this state of illusion we think we exist in ?

OK,  Can I stop now ?  I'm starting to hyperventillate....  (reaching for paper bag)

Time may be an illusion created by the world around us. We accept it because our daily lives and schedules are run by the "time" factor. Time and memory are basically like History, the past is always behind and the future looms ahead.  OK--enough of this Star Trek scenario LMAO . Now I'm reaching for a bag or bowl too LOL

How does a "time factor" run anything ?   According to the existentialist, what's created by "the world around us", is nothing more than illusion, or a by-product of another illusion.

Quote:

Not true.  without memory there is NO time... There's just "now"  Time is a function of memory.  If tonight when you fall asleep,  your dream about an event that happened a few days back,  or even years back...  Is the past always behind ?  If we are the sum of our past experiences... where can you deliniate past from present and future ?    There's no equation that can take any of this into account either !
Is the past the past, when you recollect it ?
