WOW talk about a subject with timing!  the same thing is going on at my venue.  the problem isn't that the singers don't want to sing in my case.  it's that the other poker player won't stop the game in order for them to sing.  very interesting situation.

i think Tiggs idea of karaoke poker is a true gem!  but then i wouldn't expect anything less from all the fine folks here!
i am going to install that one myself!

(and i too, am glad they let us say bullshit!)
hehehehehe

I had a similar problem with a Moose lodge that I had a show with.

Texas hold'em was a big draw but it interfered with our show and customer following.

We changed the start time of the card game to start 45min earlier and started the karaoke 1 hour later than normal to accomodate the card playing and found that we not only had no problems with seating but we also kept some of the card players around for dancing and some of them joined in by singing a few.

The lodge was happy because the liquor sales were up and I was happy because I did not have to deal with unhappy customers.

Hang in there...there is a solution to the problem. Hopefully the VFW will work with you on this. Sometimes it is difficult to do this because most of the folks in charge are volunteers and do not have much experience with scheduling these types of events and do not figure "cause and effect" into their planning. Many times these if these folks are not karaoke singers themselves they tend to lean toward the event they are most in favor of. They do not think like bar owners.

Good Luck and keep us posted

A bit of off subject. I play poker regularly with my friends but we don't have the poker crowd taking over Karaoke problem here in California. California has passed a law the prohibits any kinds of gambling evernts/establishments other than licensed card rooms. The law was so badly written that recently a non profit organization wanted to have a poker tournament to raise money for the organization and the cops sent cease and decease letter to them. They had to cancel the event after spending money on promoting it.

For a pretty liberal state, things are mightly conservative around here.
