With Sonar3 I import a mp3 into track 1 Then retrack (record) to track 2 using  system consisting of dfx12 and external fx. Proccessed with a bbe362 and aphex104.. Then output  track1 to 1/2 (delta 44)out then into channel into 11/12 on the mixer.. Output  track 2 to 3/4 and into 9/10 on the mixer. Reset the overall fx and balance between the tracks on the mixer. Then retrack back into track 3... Output  track 3 to 3/4 (mixed with track 2) and play all 3 tracks The overall effect is awesome. (This is not using any of the digi plugins in sonar3 eq, fx etc)

However when I export all to a wav file and playback with something like winamp I need to have all the fx and proceesors on the system bypassed to tell the difference.. With system peaked for the original mp3 there is not enough noticeable difference between the mp3 and the wav file to warrant all this... For a full blown recording session we use the above for the music playback and also the above tecniques are  used for the vocals...

Do a comparison at with a wma ripped at 64 & an mp3 ripped at 64 - even the worst ears can (or SHOULD) be able to tell the difference.  The wma ripped at 64 equals if not surpasses an mp3 ripped at 128.  Even at the lower rate, the wma is very passable in quality over the mp3 at the same bitrate.

I have run RoxBox and winamp on a pentium II 300 MHz laptop with 128 mhz without a hiccup.  Right now I have a choice, depending on how my back is feeling of a 1 ghz rackmount computer and a 366 mhz laptop I just upped the ram to 256 mb on.  Both run roxbox perfectly and Roxbox will do almost everything one would need for hosting a karaoke show and is less than what one would spend on Hoster Lite which I also own by the way. I prefer RoxBox over Hoster.  Why? I can't put hoster on the laptop as it won't run on 98SE like RoxBox will.
