Haha, you DO play air guitar Kurt, cause I saw ya do it. :dancin: You even played air bass when I sang "All Jacked Up".
And your old style mic was too cool.......... once you showed us how to "properly rock the mic", .
Oh, and as to the "topic"........... I'm pretty much with Crystal on this one. I am too nervous singing to just stand there, I need the mic in my hands usually. And I've gotten NAGGED at about twirling the mic cord around my hand before. Must be a nervous thing. (?) But occasionally I sing with it in the stands. (like, for instance, when you gotta pull out the "Elvis" moves on an old school mic in it's stand.... ) And sometimes, if a place has a crummy sound system, I gotta move to where I can hear a good blend of my voice & the music. Can't go singing off key live cause I can't hear myself! So in that case, it's nice to be holding it.
Now ya got Charmin's :2cents:

I have a stand for our show and for the most part I use it when I sing some of my songs. Not that I am shy but because I like using it with certin songs. There are some singers who are starting to use the stand also.

Couldn't have said it better myself!! We do have a mic stand at our shows (if the KJ uses one) which can be used by the singers. Richard uses one when he KJ's, as do I, since it keeps your hands free. Richard uses one when he sings but, even if I start out with one, I end up holding it.
We use the TV stand with mic holders so we don't need mic stands but I do like karyoker's idea of clipping the cord to the stand for groups, etc.

As to when Im doing a show---I have cordless, wired portable and fixed mics. The cordless I hand out to custies. The wired portable stays on a stand and the fixed mic is a Shure 55m replica(big silver old school mic) that physically CANT be taken off the stand. So the people can choose which they like best. Its about 50-50 on old school vs post modern mics. They love the look and feel of the silver mic. Plus it has a real full phat sound to it.

Not only do I prefer the mic stand, it also depends on what kind of stand they use. Is it a tripod base, or a full circle base. I like to keep the mic on the stand and lean back and forth or sway with it while holding the mic and the stand. Is it just a regular telescope stand or does the top half swing out closer to the singer? And if I do a song that make me take the mic off the stand, I still keep one hand on the stand swaying that. The only place in town that doesnt have a stand is a strictly hip hop/R&B only karaoke night where the KJ hands out cordless mics.

The last couple of shows I've been to didn't have mic stands. Even the ones that do, I usually end up taking the mic out and holding it anyway. I'm rather tall and I can't seem to get the height adjusted properly. One time I didn't lock the stand back together right and the mic started slipping down while I was singing. I do like having the option of using the stand, though, if I could just get the height right.

Okay, okay, I stand corrected Kurt......... so I "put loooooooooooooove on your mic" as you instructed me to do, . (atleast I tried real hard, while being a bit shy in a new place at the same time, haha) You gotta realize how nervous I was getting up there, not knowing anyone in the crowd. I still get the heebie jeebies singing in public you know. Not to mention I was dressed like Pocahontas to boot.
And I did say "bass guitar"......... that's all I saw you playing. And I thought it was cool.

I went karaoking for the first time on Friday and had a great time. The KJ had two shure mics with mic stands and one of those silver mics mentioned earlier. I haven't posted on the forums much because I hadn't had the karaoke experience yet. I could hear myself well, my husband said the mix was great, the KJ was very attentive to all the singers--checking the volume and mix for every song. He allowed me (as a matter of fact encouraged me) to use my discs, which I brought. (See I was all prepared because of reading another thread on here . I sang my songs holding the mic, which is what I prefer. I sing with a worship band at church and the singers who don't play instruments had been holding their own mics at one time. Recently, our director changed it so now we have to use mic stands so our hands can be free for clapping, etc. It took some time to get accustomed to it. One of the reasons I like holding a mic is so that I can pull away on high notes. Also, I think it's easier to stay on the mic better when holding it.
I know I wouldn't have had such a great first-time experience at karaoke if I hadn't have gotten the scoop here :)))

Charmin----the owner changed the FORMAT for entertainment as of this last Friday night. Now its ONLY DANCE DJ on Fridays and Saturday nights. Karaoke is ONLY on Thursday & Sunday nights 9-Midnight only. I havent got any idea who they have for KJ's. So dont plan on any weekend karaoke there anytime in the near future. However went out with Matt to Beavercreek Saloon and that was a good time so maybe that could be an option sometime.
And by the way.......................I AM WAYYYYYYYYYY MORE CUTER THAN MR. OCTOBER!!

Just thought I'd add my 2 cents.
I use the mic holders on my t.v. stand, but I also bring a mic stand because I bought one of those Swirly Gig drink holders, and the mic stand is the only thing it fits on. And I want drinks set in that instead of my table..... Anyway, I have the stand tucked in beside the tv stand, and so far I haven't had anyone who wants to use the stand. I, myself, also prefer to hold a mic (for security purposes: I guess I think the mic hides me better
