Luly, on "it's too late", did you dub over your own harmonies ? or is that Estefan doing the chorus ? Your comment confused me abit. Led me too believe you lightened up the harmonies on that song.

Hi Steven,

I can't do harmony, it confuses the heck outta me. When you mentioned Gloria goes heavy on the harmony, I was just saying I like mine lighter. But really I was trying to harmonize with the background and with the little knowledge I have about that. I am so ignorant when it comes to music...I just sing from my heart.

Luly, She really layered on the harmonies to the point that finding your melody line, and not straying during the moving chorus she does must've not been easy. Her highest voices in that harmony are predominant, and although quite tasteful IMHO; dissonant, and loud enough to really mess up someone like me who has probs focusing on my own part. First thing I thought've was "This is hard"

Well, this backing was in the "style of Gloria" with a bit of Latin flavor, but I think her version is more harmony-heavy. I know what you mean about the focus factor. That's my problem. I tried to do the duet "Something Stupid" with a member here and I could not get my part down. He was fab on it, but something stupid kept coming out of my mouth.

Interesting thing about something Stupid Luly, and I'm going to go see if I can find your version, I heard Steven Monens, and Cass's version.

That song doesn't cover much range at all, yet for some strange reason, it get's as distracting as all $%**

When both voices in a duet fall within such a close vocal range of one-another, the tendency to want to cross over into other parts is VERY strong

No, I never subbed it. I could not do it!! That is the perfect way to describe it...it was distracting. I was singing all over the place and not on key. It was the most frustrating thing, and I felt bad I couldn't please my partner as he was looking very forward to it, and like I said his part was great. I never heard Steven and Kass's version. I did hear Jeanne's (Miss Milo) and Tim's version and they did very well on it.

Maybe it was Jeanne, and Tim I'm thinking of Luly. I thought Monen did that song as well. Not sure anymore.

But the way those voices move relative to one another, off the top of my head I'm thinking the harmony pretty much maintains single notes, and moves in VERY small increments such as halfsteps. VERY VERY tough, anchoring a harmony while the melody moves as it does must not be easy, Especially when both voices stay within such a small range of one another

You've explained it very well, Steven. That song was just so unbelievably tough for me. Maybe if I could hear the female's part on her own and record just my part without listening to his part it would have been doable. I don't know...harmonies are just very confusing to me. I am in awe of people like Tammy that do them so well. I heard another one, Okiesinger the other day and she was awesome on hers. I'm sure if I had lessons I could conquer it, but I've never had a singing lesson in my life.

Im with you Luly ~~ harmonies are my bugaboo too!! Just really hard for me... I hear 'em... but have a tough time pulling them off.

You don't need voice lessons, girl! Just keep 'em coming from the heart.

What the hell is vibrato????

Ok Cindy, that's a very long story and it's before your time (here), so this is for the folks who know about it and they'll get a chuckle.

Yes teacher!! I shall enunciate very well and I'll even stay after school and clean the blackboards for you. Hey, did I tell you I was teacher's pet in the 8th grade? I posted my little story on one of Patty's subs...I still get a laugh out of this. In the 8th grade, I was in love with 4 boys: Steven, Mark, Donald and Joseph. I went gaga everytime they were near. So, one day after school I was helping my favorite teacher straightening out desks and stuff and I had this brilliant idea to get my loves near me. I asked her if I could first move my desk closer to the front, then I asked if I could move some "friends" around me. Being her little pet she said yes. Well, I moved 'em on all four corners of me, so I could watch them all day!!! OMG, when I think of everyone's faces when they came in the following day and their desks were in different places...it's just hilarious! There were a couple of girls that were mean, so they went to the back of the room!!! HA!!

A flirt way back in 8th grade, huh???

I was teacher's pet in 5th grade. Saw him about a month ago for the first time in like 12-15 yrs.

Standing in a store.. the elevator door opens... this rather good lookin' older man is standing there.. and steps to the left politely to let me in.

The door shuts.... and he says.. "you've gotten a little gray.. but you still have those eyes.. and that smile". I'm thinking.. "OMG, he knows me and Im gonna get abducted and no one will ever know that I was ever on this elevator". I think my moment of "terrified thought" must have been on my face... as I just stared at this man .. LOL

He says.. CINDY _______ --> I was your fifth grade teacher. And then I "saw" him......

All the kids hated me tho ... 'cause back then... he was a hottie ~~ and they all felt he flirted with me..... MAYBE he did.. but at 11 yrs. old.. It felt like alot of attention and TEASING.

WOW Luly.. you made me ramble.... Again............... I'm telling mom!!

:P

OMG, Cindy that is tooo funny!!! I remember some pretty hot teachers, too. I've always loved older men.

Girl, I've been flirting since I was 5. I remember this Halloween outfit my mom made me. I dressed as a flapper with the fringy dress and everything. I was in a contest and they made us walk around so the judges could see us. My mom kept saying, "Bat your eyelashes and blow kisses!! You'll win!!" And sure enough I did! Gee, do you think this left an impression on me??? LOL

OOoh Cindy, I feel like we're at a pajama party or something!! I love when you ramble, so don't stop! Hey we may even have Queen Ramble herself on here soon telling her stories, too. Yes Gilly, I'm talking about you.
