My father drove us from LA California to new york city in 6 days when I was 12 years old. Back then It was mostly trucks on the cross country roads.

I drove from Seattle to Boston in 5 days (grant you that WAS in Summer time). That was driving from 8 AM - 10 PM at 70MPH average (sometimes faster/sometimes slower). Having a 2nd driver helps too, could've been there in less time driving straight through & not stopping at night - one sleeps while one drives. Matt should be in Missouri from Portland in 3 days, 4 tops no problem - weather & road conditions permitting. big jimmy c wrote: My father drove us from LA California to new york city in 6 days when I was 12 years old. Slackers, the lot of ya.
My fiance and I (and our cat in a carrier) drove from Pensacola, Florida to Denali National Park, Alaska through Canada (Calgary, Edmonton, White Horse, etc) in a fully loaded Miata pulling a trailer in 5 days.

Carol and I drove to Missouri this past summer in four days. We got back in three! !
When I drove from Atlanta GA to KC, MO, I did that in a day and a half. And I drove from KC to Portland (how I got up here) in a FULL day of driving and a half! ! That full day was 7am driving non-stop, only stopping long enough to eat and restroom breaks. Ended at 11PM about thirty miles outside the UTAH border. Next day up at 7, drove to 1:30 at my mom's place just outside Portland.
Now, granted, that was just driving a ford escort fully packed. I'll be driving a uhaul one-way truck this time, so I can probably do it in two-three days, not stopping for frills and chills.
Interesting news. Due to work shifts here, I told them I'd delay leaving until Sat Feb 20th... so I'm here for another month yet! !

I haven't packed up yet, so I'll be around to torture you guys for a week or so.
It's been fun... thanks for the laughs, crying, and everything in between!
Matt Searcy Okay, Matt - just let me know when you are for certain not online so that I can talk about you! I know there are many others just waiting to do so also. Oh and before you return to the forums please send me an email so that I can immediately delete all those posts! You'll be missed by some and not by others... Oh well, you already know how I feel! timberlea wrote: Cross country in the US is about an 8-9 day drive coast to coast driving 10-12 hrs a day. Wholly smokes, you must drive slow. Years back, I owned a small truck fleet operation and had Cross-Country Team Drivers - Bakersfield,CA to Cincinnati, OH around 2 1/2 days. That was based on being allowed to drive 8 hours per day per driver at a speed of 55 MPH. They would leave Monday AM return Friday PM and have the weekend off. This also included getting loaded and unloaded.
I personally have driven from Seal Beach, CA to Alexandria, VA in less than five days. Around 2700 miles. I went through the north {Route I-70 & I-80} during the summer (figured it would be cooler and less crowded than the southern route {I-20 & I-40}) - didn't realize that it was rodeo season and there wasn't a vacant hotel from Colorado to Ohio - That was a very long drive...

I drove from WV to San Jose, CA (3000+ miles) in about 2 1/2 days... myself. Now granted, it's a ROUGH Trip.. not much time for sleeping (and I sure as heck didn't go 55.. ..) but it's possible. Our most recent trip across the US (Southern Oregon to WV) took us about 4 days and we were pretty comfortable - stayed in KOA cabins every night (cheap, fairly comfy, private, accepts pets) and we didn't do any 'marathon' driving.

don't plan to return to Oregon, at least not in the immediate future. Carol and I are now el-breakola, to the point of never recovering... and my father lost his wife... he probably has a few years left in him... his brothers are droppin' like flies.
Cancer loves my family, and they love smoking... a bad situation altogether, but I want to be with my dad until the end.

Remember, my times and distance is for someone travelling with kids. Alone or with another adult or two yes you can do it much quicker. But stopping for meals, bathroom breaks, sleep, and other assorted stops that kids need, you will need the 8-10 days. I have driven from Lethbridge, Alta to Kanora, Ont in 20 hours not that I would do it again. Tired drivers are dangerous drivers.

holy CRAP! I should SAY you were tired! good grief!
When we drove to Mississauga from here (Edmonton) it took us 4 days.
Mind you.... it was in a big ole junky, noisy moterhome, and we stopped in hotels every night.... and we took the scenic route through the states.

Matt! Damn, I am sorry to hear of your family problems. It's so hard to hold a family together these days.
All I can say is, look toward a brighter future and try not to let yourself get too bogged down in the pain of separation. You have many people here that care about you. It sounds like your father needs you too, and that probably won't be an easy time, it never is, but hold your love for him in your heart and you will be ok.
It sounds like you are starting a new phase of your life, so try to look at it as a 'fresh new beginning' and an opportunity to turn your life into whatever you have always dreamed of becoming.
Good luck, have a safe trip, and the most heartfelt well wishes going out to you. Keep in touch if you can! **HUGS**
