Brian, that is a great idea! That way the are really benefitting themselves.

And I mean that’s where ALL the money goes! New songs!

From the history of purchases that you have made the word ALL might actually mean ALL

Having a tip jar just sitting out & 'passing the hat' are two completely different settings. One is just there, the other is actually walking out in the crowd with the jar asking people to put money in. I have had this happen to me once - very embarrassing & since that night, if I saw it happen I put a stop to it before it can leave my sight.

Ditto! Same incident. One of my regulars right after singing her song grab the tip jar & show it to the audience “Hello, people! This is empty. I’ll go around and……………” Before she can finish the sentence the jar was already in my possession going back to where it belongs. :) I agree! Very embarrassing to say the least.

@ mrmarog: Thanks!

I like the new sing fund ...
but I still don't understand the bad vibe given to tips. the waitress gets tips, the bartender will usually get $1 tip to grab a beer from the ice and remove the cap. 5 seconds and nobody says anything bad about giving them $1 tip for doing so.

I don't accept tips because it may seem innocent enough but if their turn happens to be next it SEEMS like taking a bribe.

Yep, regular dj's & bands also get tips, I've seen other entertainers get tips - why is it considered taboo with karaoke.
