Crystal, as BHB said, Audacity is free. To encode MP3's you'll need to download LAME as well which is also free.
It works VERY well for basic home recording. If you have any questions feel free to ask as many of us here use it and are more than happy to assist in any way we can.

goldwave is yet another free utility. It works wonderfully at converting to all kinds of media forms...

thanks BHB and KM, but I've tried Audacity and I didn't really like it. Maybe I just need to get used to it. My favorite program so far is Acoustica Mixcraft, but I only had the demo... Does anyone know where I can buy the program (other than online..... I'm not comfortable ordering things online) thx..... sorry I went off topic! Carry on!!! !

Crystal I tried that one too and liked it...but do not know where to get it besides online.. If you buy a creative soundblaster live sound card for 29.00 there is a decent recording program that comes with it called wave studio....It's simple and easy and the price is right....effects are limited but at least you could record..I don't use it now but I used to...

Welcome Warbler, Tim, and Smileyskim to the group Christmas project
Yes indeedy, all are welcome and we always have room for more This is my last call for interested people's to let me know that they would like to sing with us.. I'll make the final list tomorrow and have part assignments (gosh.. i sound like my old choir director) up on Monday after Halloween..
As I said before, I will then post the tracks with guide vocals on SS for you to use to record. The guide vocals will be just for us to keep our timing similar on the parts where we sing together, and to give ideas for harmonies on the parts where we have that. On your solo lines, you can do the timing and such just as you feel it! (within reason of course .. don't be singing all crazy on me hehe)..
I'm gettin' ahead of myself here so I'll just end this for now by saying that more people are certainly welcome, and we'll get more details on Monday...
group *hug* Elisha

This sounds so cool! I can hardly wait to hear the end result.
Jazzy - you are a saint to offer to do this!!! I would have asked to be a part of it , but I'm gonna try to do something similiar with my family. Let's make sure we don't try to do the same song(s).
