You sound most like a sax? Interesting. Seriously, is Kenny G singing these days. I only know his earlier instumental stuff, with the occasional guest singer on his albums.

I think it was a joke that his friends would rather him sing something that didn't require singing.

Well, you won't find her in karaoke, unfortunately. She is the ex-lead singer of a progressive classical rock group of the late sixties through 1988 called Renaissance.
After they broke up, Annie came over from England and lived in the suburbs outside of Philadelphia, but more recently moved to the New England area.
She now has the Annie Haslam Band and also paints for charity. I can't remember if her octive range is 5 or 7. Does anyone know if it is even possible to have a 7 octive vocal range. I know she has at least 5. One of the best female vocalists I have ever heard. Well, Karen Carpenter is up there too.

Hey Simply Celtic.....I love Sunrise...an awesome tune. Do you post in the showcase? I'd love to here it! My best seems to be southern rock...Hold On Loosely.....Keep Your Hands To Yourself......I think I do pretty good Roth era Van Halen, and even Conway Twitty's Only Make Believe.

No, I am not over on the Showcase as I have no way to record myself singing karaoke. Hey, I also love .38 Special and sing Hold On Loosely, Second Chance, and Caught Up In You.
Glad someone on here is familiar with Simply Red's stuff. Of course, everyone knows Holding Back The Years, but songs like Sunrise, Stars, and even the remake of You Make Me Feel Brand New, I am not so sure many know of. I could be wrong. How popular are they these days? I know they just released their latest CD in 2003, right?
Interestingly enough I haven't heard anyone else in my circles do any Simply Red. Would love to hear someone else sing their stuff as well.
If I could get a recording of myself, I would love to share on Showcase. How do people record themselves without the proper equipment?

do a search on here for "audacity"... there's a very good thread on the karaokescene site about how to use either this or cool edit pro 2 to record yourself using your normal microphone input on the computer!

Unfortunately, I have no clue exactly what would be needed, something for the tech help forum I guess. Yeah, they kinda had a rebirth last year, or he had a rebirth, I don't know if it's he or they. I think just he. Anyway, I thought You Make Me Feel Brand New would be a smash for him, reminded me alot of If You Don't Know Me By Now, but it never really took off. I saw him do Sunrise on a morning show somewhere, and fell in love with it. Some of the best use of sampling I've heard. Never hear it on the radio, and now I hear it on the satellite system the major retailer I work part time for uses.

Thanks knightshow for the information. I will check it out.
Jingalls, well Simply Red is the name of his group. The guy singing who also writes his own music and lyrics on most of the songs is Mick Hucknell.
Well, I am making his remake of You Make Me Feel Brand New popular where I live in South Jersey! People love it. So I don't get why it didn't get popular on the CD. You know, I really think the media has too much control instead of the listeners.
The program directors of the radio stations "think" they know what the people want to hear. Doesn't mean they know what they are doing. Most of them that is. There are a few that do.

Absolutely agree. PD's have way too much power over who we listen to. Unfortunately, it takes a minor miracle to get airplay if you aren't perfectly formatted. I would consider them to be Adult Contemporary, shocked they don't get more play on these stations.

There was (is?) a contemporary jazz station in Orlando that used to play Simply Red quite often. Played a lot of Dave/Don Grusin, Russ Freeman, Rippingtons, Steely Dan(!?), Kevin Eubanks, Boney James, Carl Anderson, Joe Sample, etc. It was nice to have some artists that weren't on the 'popular' charts getting airplay for more than an hour on Sunday Morning.

Jsut an update. I successfully added Sunrise by Simply Red making it four of their songs I do. Next week I am thinking about trying Fairground by them as well.
Boy, am I happy.

the honest truth is....i'm not really sure what ( I ) sound like. i mean, i can't really pick a song that i have sang and say....ok thats my voice, i think maybe i have a blend of quite a few peoples voices, i add a little of this one, a little of that one a tash of that one, sounds like cooking huh... ...but if someone asked me to sing like myself, i wouldn't have a clue how to do that....i hear people sing an elvis song, and they sound just like themselves, i can't do that, wish i could....but if i do an elvis song, then i know enough about his voice to add i a little of his voice to mine, not that i sound like him at all but there r a few things going on in my voice to let u know it is an elvis song.....i wish i did have my own voice, my own style, some say i do, but i don't hear it...it all depends on the song i'm singing, to what voice i use, does that make sense? i didn't think so... THE END

Very good point. That is how it is with me. I have my own distinct voice but each artist I do sing has just a bit of them in there as well so it is like a blend of them and me and that makes up my singing style as I see it.
If I had to pick a particular voice type so ppl could get an idea what I sound like I would pick Mick Hucknell from Simply Red, is all I am saying.
I tend to do the high tenor parts as that is my vocal range so I do like Simply Red, Journey, Styx, Kansas, Yes, Toto, Boston, .38 Special, Asia, and I could go on and on. But that gives you an idea.
That is what I was looking for.

Not that I think I sound like Bob Seger, but I do "Turn The Page" fairly well.... but my showcase would have to be: Bobby Darin's "Mack The Knife" No bad reviews on that one, yet !
I've yet to hear ANYONE sing Keith Whitley's,"When You Say Nothing At All" with any justice done to the song OR the Artist.

Hey, very cool. The only Bobby Darin one I do is Beyond The Sea. Can't wait for the Kevin Spacey movie of the same name to come out. Believe it is next month. Spacey will be singing all the songs in the movie as he sings on Broadway and has always been a big fan of Darin's. He should do a good job, I think.
