Well, menephes, I have never "seen" my neighbors Kids, but I surely "Hear" them, and they don't seem to be getting "hurt":) Lol, you nut:) Luv ya.

And missy, I hope you don't think i have, in any way, put down your opinions as a parent. I respect every and all parenting styles, if it works. But who is to say WHAT works and what doesn't:) Not many people would think That I was brought up properly, or that I act like a normal reasonable adult... OR that i am raising Skylah appropriately, so who would I be to say someone else is or not. I like ya, respect ya, and bet your kids are terrific:) who doens't think their kids are terrific, I would brag up mine all day if I could:) (expect right now, she is making a horrible mess, while I am writing this.)
I will obviously stay out of this conversation though. I talk WAY too much, I need a hobby:)

nooo not at all gilly your fine sweetie i did feel slightly niggled at what allstar said that was all...i felt he twisted a little what exactly i meant...i think parenting is hard for anyone and i would not comment on what another parent does because if it works for them and their children then thats good...soo i didnt quite expect what allstar put...but not everyone thinks the same so its my own fault for getting serious in the forum...mistake learned from lol i will now go back to asking ma duhhhh brain questions hehehehe

I'm getting out of here! This is one of those discussions that will go on, and on and on and nobody will move from their point of view, rightly so.

I take of my hat to all the above parents that have commented on the original thread and wish you all the very best, kindness, happiness and health with your children/grand children and even great grant children. May they never disappoint you, because you don't deserve it.

AllStar signing off!

I agree that there are reasons for medicating a child. But it's rampant in today's society. Case and point - I had a step son that had been put on Ritalin at age 6 (yes, SIX!). He was 8 when I came into his life and it took me 3 years to convince the doctors and his mom to get him off Ritalin (and later Dexadrine). We finally got him put on a VERY mild anti-anxiety medication. He went from being wound far too tight to your normal average kid. It's amazing what actually trying to find the problem will do as opposed to give a kid amphetamines. BTW, I heard from him the other day (he still talks with my parents occasionally) and he's doing just fine. He'll graduate high school next year, has a job and is doing pretty well in school.

BTW, I must disagree with many of the self-proclaimed 'child-experts' today. It doesn't take a village to raise a child - it takes PARENTS. Parents with a vested interest in the child's well-being and having the child grow to a productive member of society.

I'm an advocate of the 'spare the rod... spoil the child' approach personally....

I commend those of you who spend time with your children regularly and actually listen to them. Any parent that makes their child feel LOVED all the time is commended in my book. Bypassing the greed of overly commercialized holidays is commendable and I applaud you. I feel birthdays, anniversary's, and some holidays are acceptable but small personally made gifts always mean more than store bought stuff in my book.

Parenting is a huge investment of time, money, and love when done properly. We can only hope that the investment 'pays off' as the child grows to maturity.

BTW, I consider myself a child expert only because I am a kid trapped in an adults body... just ask my fiance.

to each their own.

I hate the "over-medication" syndrome running rampant here in America. If you just take the time to pay attention to a child with special needs, most of the time, that's the solution.

too many parents dump the kids in front of tv, games or something other than being parents.

And many kids grow OUT of childhood issues. It takes time and patience.

And a receeding hairline!

Two Mikey's here - this could get confusing.... I am henceforth to be called MikeyP :-)

PS: I think Mikey and I are cut from the same cloth (that would be vintage 80s acid wash denim with the slits cut in the thighs...)
