Brian, please define "Internationally". Shania Twain went international, Neil Diamond went international, The Rolling Stones went international, you my dear friend, had your song (which was a good song, granted) posted on a website! which is internationally accesible, but that does not mean much, even though you have achieved more then I.

Please, after your success, do not see yourself as an international star. You are not!

Isn't everyone who posts here *technically* going international?? All our recordings can be heard all over the world

Btw, going back to the original question, I use CEP (Adobe Audition) for recording, cos I like to see the wave being created as I sing, but I use Cubase 32 VST 5.1 for mixing...

KM,
If anyone remembers the CD version of my song "Livin' It Up (On My Way Down)" in the showcase. That was done on Protools 6.7 (LE- with a 002 console) the RTAS version. It was A #1 Rockabilly song Internationally for 4 weeks. and only went to #2 on the European Daily country charts. The others were done on Sonar & Audacity. and only did a #1 in thier sub-genres in the daily internet charts. but I'm straying way off topic and Time to let this go back to where it belongs..

If anyone has direct questions about protools or this I can answer some of them, or visit digidesign's website.

I'm sorry. I fail to see the relevance of this post other than to boast your own ego. You posted information on a great new up and coming tool which has a limited audidence in this forum. That's all I was saying - the intended audience of the tool isn't likely everyone in the forum. No matter your level of success (or lack thereof) in the music industry it doesn't change the fact that many forum members here use very low end equipmenet to produce the high quality submissions they're already sending in. In another thread when asked about headphones there's one recommandation for a mic/headphone combo that is $7.99 (CANADIAN!).

Yes, the tool you mentioned might be a great tool for a recording professional. Yes, it might be the cat's meow. Yes, you are excited about the possibilities this opens for the home studio and music professionals. I understand that - but I fail to see how someone using the built-in soundcard on the motherboard and a $8 computer headset to record with is going to suddenly go out and drop $1500 over a year (or more) to multitrack record and edit with a tool while still using the $8 headset. Hey, I could be wrong. Everyone here could go out and drop the cash on this tool and tell me I'm a fool for not getting it and needed professional ssound card to go with it but I just don't see that happening.

I'll drop this for now because the thread has been horribly hijacked.

BTW, I still do all my mixing externally on a Soundcraft mixer and send a single unbalanced stereo output to my old laptop (Gateway PII 400Mhz 196MB Ram) and record using Audacity.

KM/Allstar,
What I was getting to is there is a noticable quality difference between the platforms that ARE in use.

Allstar I'm not trying to flame you or start anything here:

Allstar EVEN said it himself, and I will roughly quote: IN RE: to "Livin It Up" - "It sounds like a different set of vocal chords sang this song". (That song was recorded on protools.) I Personally did that song and have the video on the session. It was recorded in another Albuquerque Studio other than My own.

(off-topic for KM)
International Recognition for a Internet release is: Charting in rotation on 35 internet based radio stations based in 5 different countries, that report thier charts back to the Labels & Trades themselves. (Not many do at all I believe 90 do.) There over 72,700 Indie Music based Internet radio stations at our last count and Growing world wide. According to Radio & Records week of 9-15-04 issue. (and they do not chart internet radio)

Now the CD's are out there in the stores worldwide.. but don't marketing that Shania or Neil Diamond has by Name recognition. (go figure!)

I'm not trying to show any ego here.. "Just the facts Man!"
I gave a website reference for that porpose.
I'm still here to have fun..
And NO I'm not a star yet...
But I did sleep in a Holiday Inn Express once... :P

(back to the discussion.)

Re: International Charts
Allstar and Atomic inquired regarding the 'international' charts, not I.

Re: My intentions
My only intent in my original post and the follow-ups was to point out the intended audience of the software and as a reminder that not all of us are recording music for play on commercial/internet radio stations or wide geographic release. I'd be happy if my karaoke hosting business would take off with enough regular gigs during the winter months to support my CDG habit.

Re: Internet radio stations/the topic in general
While I applaud your success in the Internet radio market and the dedication to the independent artists I just want to insure that we don't get bogged down needlessly in advanced software/hardware topics that don't apply to the majority of the users. A discussion dealing with the ramification of ProTools and other similar products on the recording industry would likely be best served in the Technical Forum in a seperate thread.

Re: Independent labels
I have continued my subscription to eMusic (think iTunes for mostly the small/independent label - but cheaper) and listen/support a wide variety of local artists because I am an avid supporter of self-published/independent/small labels. I generally buy my music from the artists directly at concerts/websites or online from those that provide a large portion of the proceeds on downloads back to the artists.

Re: Flame wars
I've seen and been in enough flame wars I usually come exceedingly well prepared. However, I rarely see the need to babble on in useless diatribe and abuse the general readership with the associated posts dedicated to personal attacks and further degrade the signal to noise ratio on the boards. I applaud you for your dedication to the same.

Re: Holiday Inn Express
Maybe I should try staying at one of those sometime.
