lacy i'm sorry if u misunderstood me, i don't think a rateing makes a singer either, but thats why we have a rating stysem, because most do want to be rated...like it r not.... I do feel that comments r much better, but think about this....without rateings, if someone said...(that was good)....ok how good was it?...might have been a 5 r a 6?...who knows...r the comment (i liked it)....how much did that person like it?....there is room for rateings i believe, but i do feel that comments help more.... and i think we all want to be better...lacyj, i for one listen for emoton in a song as much as anyone and i feel without it u have no song....

a good friend of mine who is a great song writer...( in the song writers hall of fame) asked what does that song mean to you as i was listening to his song... i said what?...he said what do u feel that song is saying...to you..... i went on to tell him....then i asked...what does it really mean?....he said...whatever u feel it means to you is what it means....each person hears a song different...it takes on a different meaning for each listener....some bring up bad memories others good memories....thats why feelings in a song r so important, ur telling us YOUR story, how YOU feel....we take that same song and try to fit it into our lives..... i have heard plenty of songs sang by people that weren't very good singers, but yet they put sooooo much feeling in a song to where i would just cry listening to it.....was that a 10 to me?....heck yeaaaa...was it perfect...no way....but at that time it was perfect for me... for another person it might have been a 6 r 7...who knows...

but u have to understand if we r going to rate honestly...then we have to tell a person if there off key in places to help them...i sure want to know if i am....others might not...and u also have to understand that what i hear others might not...and vise/ versa....and i'm only talking singing here...not recording.....sorry ur not rateing anymore

ill rate hun .. but i really think you and i are on the same page just more passion in different aspects... i want to know if i can or cant do a song ... i want to know honestly if i am off key if something happends ... because i told you before im never going to be perfect... my hearing is going faster every day and i just want to enjoy the songs i can sing now... and hearing people that i love to hear sing... you are one of them billy... I couldnt imagine never hearing you sing again or alot of the singers on here... but really like i said if it comes time that i cant hit the keys ... i wanna know ... then its time for me to pack it in hun...

WOW!!! I knew all along that this rating game was going to be a real pain. It looks like not everybody is prepared to face a reality check on their performance skills.The reason is mostly because there are doubts about the qualifications of the person doing the rating. Not everybody here have the ability and experience like for example:Billy,Jazzy B. and a few others to be able to accept what is given to them. Putting myself as an example, I don't care too much about a rating from somebody that to me, doesn't know what he's/she's talking about.
I've seen very weird rankings and some without any explanation at all. Just like Billy was saying ,If you tell me I did something wrong then have the courtesy to tell me what it was so I can determine the validity of their claim. Thank God I can make that determination. What about the ones that can not because they don't have the ear for it? Some get upset and even do very rude things to others.
IMO rankings are a cause for problems. Knowing that some are supporters of a ranking system the way I go about is by not ranking where i can find flaws that might hurt a singer's feelings but I always make it a point to let them know a way to improve their performance. I guess you can call it diplomacy. Singers , Karaoke or Pros are very sensitive people, including myself. It's all about emotion.
I think it was a great idea to have the no ranking option available for the reasons mentioned before.
It takes a brave and honest person to tell it like it is without hurting people's feelings.
It is so hard to see a 10 on a performance done completely out of key and then see a Jazzy baggs gettin a 9 for a flawless pro rendition. So until somebody comes with a better alternative, that is what we have to deal with and hope for the best.

I shouldnt actually say anything but to heck with it... hummmmm seems to me that we were more or less just told that only trained ears should be ranking... who knows what was ment by this ranking but i certainly know for a fact that i cant say as i am feeling too good about ranking a single submission anymore... and if i ever submit another thing to this site i will refuse to have any rank on mine... its all about fun... some of us seem to forget that if you are looking for a professional opinion then ask simon from american idol... i think hes on the same page... as for me im tired of the "rating game" sorry but i think ill just sit and listen and comment from now on...

Beach, hun im not bent on anything... i could care less thats why i shut down my rating i dont care... its fun thats it like it or not ... and i personally am sick of the rating game... if someone takes offence because someone rates wrong in their book and forgive me but there are alot of wonderful singers here ... however anyone thinking they are GODS in here .. ahem... can shove it because if you were so good you wouldnt be here to begin with... you would be out making the all mighty dollar... kick back relax and have some fun... again i say ... its about having fun ... not ratings ... and not these petty fights...

luv and luck to you all... my rating will not return ... least this way i can say im fair ... my comments will remain however my rating on my own songs and others will never take place... that is my point...

the idea is to have fun.. simple enough.. this topic shouldn't even need to be brought up.. really.. if they wanna give 10's let 'em give 10's.. the rating system is biased as we all know.. i choose not to use it at all really.

Sometimes I accidently leave my ratings open, And I get rated.. My gain or loss.. Personally I don't give a rip. My strong point is NOT singing it is audio production. so really if i get complimented or slammed in my singing it don't really matter.

I agree to disagree.

Lets kill this BS topic and shall we get back to the party?

In my honest, humble opinion, it's always been about singing or trying to.The way the rankings are been applied under this system is a complete disaster. Taking that into consideration, I would prefer a simple comment based on construtive criticism that will help the recipient do a better job if that's what is needed or congrats for a job well done. With no rankings involved singers will be less aprehensive about telling it as they hear it. As a result , there will be more sharing of real helpful information between members and I bet everybody will be performing a lot better.
If there are enough of us that like my vision maybe we can present this to our WEBMASTER (PHILL CROSS) and hope for the best.
This ranking deal is only adding an atmosphere of tension and discord between members instead of peace and harmony. Let's concentrate on performing to the best of our abilitiy without worrying about a ranking. Who cares who's better than who? Let's throw the EGOS out the window and have some real fun. [/b]

Anyone interested in singing a few rounds of Cumbiya (sp)? I'll mix as many as would do it, and submit it - WITH NO RANKING!!!

PS...If singers just started checking "No" to ranking, then this problem might just fade away (at least for those singers).

we talk about fun, yet for some, honestly going from a 6 to a 10 is fun...some on here want to HONESTLY improve...to them improveing is fun...as it is to me....i think this site made it pretty simple for all involved...u want to be rated, open the box...if you don't close it...how can that NOT please everyone?....

here it is.. simple as it's going to get.. if anybody want's to improve.. and is as serious as a heart attack about it.. Hire a vocal instructor.. make sure they are accredited.. and pay the money they are worth. simple enough.. I can refer you to numerous ones.

If that's not what you want .. please take the competition elsewhere where the prizes are worth the trouble and stress.

I'm definately not here to compete. and it sounds more and more like you are..

As you can see there are no prizes for 2nd place. in my book you are not getting 1st as of yet. And are not that great of a singer and learn some technique. anybody can submit here.. and I'm far from being capable to be one of the best here, but simply I think your own ego is showing too.

Check your ego at the door and come back and see us.

then why do YOU leave comments about how to improve?
Why do you rate when u say ur against it?...address those questions please. if you can...

i'm not here to compete with anyone, you say theres no prize for second place? i didn't know there was a prize for first.... heck i didn't even know there was a way to be first on here.... so everything u say Bum doesn't make sense....just like most of ur comments....i think ur talking just to talk...

so you feel that anyone that wants to be rated honestly is on a ego trip huh?....i will be the first to say i'm not the best singer on here, but i would like to get honest comments and ratings to where i just might become a better singer...but i'm guessing u don't feel that way...ur idea is to go get a vocal coach.....do you feel the same about people on here wanting to get there recordings sounding better?....should they go out and hire someone to teach them that to?....

i have been singing long enough to know that if i want to hear a better singer then i am, all i have to do is turn a street corner, any street corner....

there is a guy on another site that sings...hes not that good YET, but he has improved 10 fold sense he came on...WHY? because he wanted to get better, and nice people gave him good advice and he kept learning and getting better....he started out getting 4's now he gets 6 and 7s true 7s.... not tokin 10s....and he is sooooo proud of himself, as he should be, he worked hard.... and yes hes had vocals coaches...4 of them, and he will tell u he has learned more from people on here then he ever did with his 4 coaches....
I can connect u to some of those people that helped him if u like....

BUM with the comments u just made i am guessing ur not out to help anyone on here, as i'm sure you want be rating anymore either...because u don't believe in ratings... r helpful comments.....

DON'T CHECK THE BOX....others come on here to hopefully get good advice, and help on there singing/recording...thats there fun....no problem there either....CHECK THE BOX....Wheres the problem? i just don't see it....has nothing to do with ego, it has to do with wanting to get better.....someone gave me a comment that they thought my vocals were to loud in the mix...i loved that....i learned from that...as i have other comments,

Do you want everyone to just submit songs, get there tokin 10s, r omggggggg ur awesome and go on? if thats the case with YOU thats fine, but others have different ideas about how to have fun...FOR THEM...

People don't like to be told what they can and can't do ....thats where i feel RATE -R- NOT RATE is perfect...to each his on... that should please everyone i would think...but thats just me....

This however continued... for some reason to something a bit more than ranking and turned into ego trip for people... as i said before we dont get paid for this... some here should and probably could... ok but we dont its a fact... if we all wanted to get paid for this then i could see ranking... or even a reward system ... ok like say the top singer for the month would have one month service paid ... something like that... but nothing is like that ... we are here to have fun or at least i am...
