I like Sound Choice for many things, but I hate the way they force you to make up an ending by banning fade-outs. It isn't that easy to fade, but the best KJs will actually fade you and you can fake a fade by pulling the mic.

I am the complete opposite on this. I hate the companies that do fade outs leaving the singer to continue singing over faded out music. I LOVE the fact that SC produces songs with live style endings - ie no fades.

A live singer does not fade out with the music so it looks & sounds terrible. Maybe a fade out would be ok if it was done as I suggested a few posts ago. Perhaps that could be a good compromise? Me wrote: I think maybe a good compromise on the endings might be to keep the vocals going only whilst the song is still at full volume, then perhaps a message & a little thumbsup smilie or something saying "Thank you for singing" and a fairly short fade out, unless the original has a proper ending. How about that?

Quote: "Thank you for singing"
I can hear it now, the last thing people will sing is this. .
Background and harmonies should be subtle, unless it's a vital part of a song.
I like a lead in.
I can fade out with the song so either way makes no never mind with me.
I do agree with shortening long instrumentals.
Good luck.

I've actually had people sing the words " 8 Measures" .
I like the idea of "thank you for singing" at the end. Many times people don't know when the song is over and leave the stage to early.
Or how about - Thank you for singing. Now go sit down, buy a lot fo drinks and don't grab the KJ's butt

Actually I don't mind that one. Except when they pinch real hard. Some ladies have strong fingers.
If you're a woman it's a different thing I guess. My daughter explained it to me like this: "We can put our hands on a guy's butt and that's OK but don't put your hands on ours!"
Is that a double standard?
Anyway back to karaoke. It's nice when there's something on the screen after the vocals are over to let the singer know. But it doesn't have to say you're done. Credits, a logo - something.

! I've had them sing that too! or "instrumental break" .
I love the idea of maybe plugging the venue at the end. Something along the lines of please support your venue... that way, it could also support non bars.

I have some experience with graphic design. Want me to take a stab at a logo for endings? Also REEEAAALLLY looking forward to requests. Hope you pay a lot of attention to our suggestions I'd personally love to see Led Zeppelin - Nobody's Fault But Mine and Stone Temple Pilots - Dead And Bloated, amongst many others.
I'm all for supporting the little guys that produce what hasn't been done. Ordering the whole Laughing Gnome Karaoke collection right now, but he hasn't done anything new in a while.

Except if it's a private party for anything especially if the host is already paying for a party - think about a kids venue, no point in advertising that venue - try to push more than what the host that is paying for origianlly? I don't like that option personally. I as a host should be pushing the place I work & don't need a lazy way out for clubs. Private parties I sure wouldn't push to support the venue as it's already paid for.

Same with breasts! I had a gal grab me & feel my chest up, I turned around & said YEAH if I did that to you I'D be in trouble. Unfortunately it backfired & she pulled me around & said go for it. However that is not the norm!!!!

I was actually talking to him a few months ago about possibly working together. He is also in England, he's a cool guy.
To be totally honest though, I will be making mainstream stuff to start with although not all the usual startter pack stuff. I will also make that stuff later on though, but its not on the schedule for this first year.
I know that by stating I will produce requests, I am bound to disappoint some people if I can't do it or I can't do it for a while so I hope that doesn't backfire on me! I just hope that you will consider that it is just me, not a large company. I got to record all the instruments, program the lyrics, design the discs & the cover, get the discs pressed, do the advertising, ship the orders, do the accounts blah blah blah. I will still be working 3 days a week at my regular job + gigs at the weekends, so that's the kind of timeframe I will be working in to start with.
If it succeeds, then maybe I can devote more time, then I can get more done & get some help. I envisage that these more obscure discs might break even at best, but that is not a real bother for me if the mainstream stuff can support it in the meantime. This is why I have to get a library of stuff I can be sure of selling to start off with. If I were to spend 5-6 weeks producing a disc that will barely cover the cost of production at this stage, my missus and kids will probably not be too happy with this idea of mine.

My biggest suggestion is to go with the mainstream stuff THAT HASN'T BEEN DONE. There are tons of big hit songs that have not been made for karaoke. I wouldn't see much point in producing stuff that two or three other companies has already put out. The two songs I mentioned previously are perfect examples.

For me there is no absolute answer when it come to including or excluding long musical parts in a song. I think November Rain would be terrible if chopped up and yet it doesn't bother me at all when I perform Light my Fire with the middle part cut way down. Then again I don't want to hear the complete ending of Layla even though I love the song. Of course you'll never make everyone happy.
I concur with anything by STP, AIC and how about Echo and the Bunnyman's " Lips like Sugar ". Please! Rudy.

I've sung Sultans of Swing several times, and while the 1 minute guitar solo is kind of uncomfortable for me (I never took air guitar lessons), I think the song wouldn't sound right without it. I'd be interested to see how the American Idol singers handle songs like that with long solos. Maybe I should start watching the show. On the other hand, it's possible the listeners might not notice anything missing. I'd hate to chop a song up in the middle just to get the next singer up, though.
I've sung Layla also. I think the Derek and the Dominos version is the one that has the cool piano solo at the end and the spacey sounds that just kind of drift off into oblivion in the lasts few seconds. Actually, that is one of the coolest endings of a song IMHO, and so if I sung it, I'd want the KJ to play the whole thing just so everyone could hear the cool ending! Maybe it's a good song to end a show with. Now if it was sung every night, maybe the ending could be faded, but if you are only hearing it a few times a year, keep the ending.

^^^ If you watch American Idol you would see that they sing two minute versions of songs. Quite pathetic really.

Yes, Actually I just ran into this problem. I have been looking for a version of Promised Land with the Harmonica intro. I cannot believe they do not have one! I would also like to see some of the best Billy Joel songs that have not been done yet as well as Bruce. An example which I would love with backing tracks is Drive All Night. That was a great Bruce song.
