Cool!!!  I have a friend that lives in Snohomish.  I try to visit up that way at least once a year. I'll be sure and look you up and bring her to your show when I am up there next time.

Well Babs, it appears that I'm going to have a pretty full house for my impromptu NYE gig - and he called and doubled what he offered me...People are e'ing me and asking if they need to make reservations. WOOHOOO.... This place is kind of small, very nice, owners are great, and I guess it's the kind of place people are starting to gravitate to for a nice and relaxed New Year's Eve, with good food and drink and great singing. I am SOOOOO relieved....

Karen - He called and said he was doubling your pay? Wow I've never had someone just out of the blue say they were going to give me more money. There must be more to the story. Did he ask you to stay longer or something?

I think it could have something to do with the fact that I gave him a list of all the places I had advertised; I took him six copies of the flyer that I created and am mailing out to people (so he could put them up in the place). In other words, I have done exactly what I said I would do. There is a regular at his place who was there while we were talking - the guy knows me, knows what kind of show I do, and I can't help but think he put the bug in the guy's ear - hey, they're totally worth it. I also know that he looked over books from last year. Either way, I will see him tomorrow and will ask him if he has given the other KJ his two weeks...seems a waste to let all those people go who will attend on NYE without being able to tell them to come back on Friday!

Theres even another called Skykomish, and Snoqualmie Pass, they are all indian place names, Seattle and Tacoma are both indian place names as are most of the rivers, such as Suiattle, Hamma Hamma.  Just take a look at a map.

Okay, if we're going to start spouting names from this neck of the woods, how's this one:  Tulalip. Just guess how to pronounce it...

hhhug I wouldnt wana guess..weve just got places like waukesha , oconomowoc, and waunakee. all pretty eazy to sound out  im curious if there is another word in the english language with 5 Os in it?

the place Im doing NYE at also shocked me tonight. origionaly he told me he is going to pay me an extra $100 per $1000 in the till. tonight he said he is going to pay us an extra $50 per $500 in the till. I see this as giving me a good chance to make an extra $50. $2000 would be insane in the till , but I was pretty sure we could put $1000 to 1500 in there if its a good night. if for some reason the night sucks (weather) Im pretty sure we will pass $500. our thursday nights are getting around $500, and they just opened a week before thanksgiving.it seems to build every week. Its a new bar, in a town where Im not known. so It will take a few months. This is not as cool as an offer to doubble the pay, but I was happy. My cohost is NOT doing well in the money dept right now. he has a 5 year old at home to worry bout, so I try to pay him a bit extra. He does a lot for me, and asks little in return. I am planning to give him the bonus.

Wow that is so cool !

That's 2 thumbs up for the bar owners. It's nice to hear they aren't all bad.

I've never been offered to work for my pay according to how much the bar made in the till. I know a lot of people do it that way. I'd just be afraid the owner wasn't being honest. I mean couldn't they just lie and short you?

It doesn't sound like this bar owner would do this especially after he upped it. I was just curious how it works.

I went in to a new gig once to drag it up out of oblivion. I agreed to a set fee that basically involved setup and 4 hours - I think minimum was $200. Then anything they made over 500, I got a percentage; anything over another set amount, I received a different percentage. Soon worked out that I was making $380 a night so they revamped the pay schedule...which was fine with me.  This was a Thursday night show..>Fridays hubby would go and pick up equip and get paid - the manager actually showed us the tape from the night before. There are honest owners out there, granted, but I'd be leary of most. Some nights they made $1600 in four hours...and it was standing room only.  I left there after four years due to a disagreement with the then owner. Of course he regretted it terribly; he ended up selling the place; new owner brought someone else in (someone who had been sniffing at the door the entire four years I was there)...Thursdays died down to nothing...now the place is lucky to keep its doors open. Sad for sure. It was a great place (historic building with ghost stories, etc.) Now some kid owns it - no experience as an owner, already in trouble. Mmhhh....

He does seem legit so far. not the sharpest crayon in the box, but he knows that im the only thing he has had for entertainment that he could depend on. His house DJ upstairs only makes $50 a night and Ive only seen one night so far when id say they made 100 in the till. he wants upstairs to be a hip hop club, so he is looking at long term there. He told me he would be happy to show me the printout any time I want to so I will be asking to see it that night. He actually offered me doubble what I make now on weds nights if i would switch, but I believe im in for a raise at both places in a month or two if things continue as they are. I dont see changing nights around to be in my favor. actually this week I was offered wednesdays at two different bars. the other bar booked my co host for every saturday starting mid jan. My small pa system will stay set up there most of the time and I get paid for karaoke while im at my regurlar job.
