I'm with all of you--- Where did that thread go???

Very interesting how that thread took on such a life of its own- and there was quite a bit of good theory listens imbedded in the discussion. Sure will miss it!

perhaps we could redecorate? give it a singers range theme...put a mic over >>>>

and a tuning prong over <<<<<<<

and I suggest a little sound proofing so as you can let rip with your 5 octaves and a translation booth for newbies who need a concise translation of large and lengthy diatribes

LMAO

The thread is in the moderators forum being "gone over" to see if we were behaving badly

Once the powers that be have checked it out- we ***MAY*** get it back again. It was a darn good thread! Y'all cross your fingers

Behaving badly?

Hrmmmmm :headscratch:

I know we were having a good heated argument about, singing range, and there was some horsing around going on,    but sheeeeeesh....

I did not see that anyone was behaving badly...

I went back and re read the TOS agreement and could not see where anyone was breaking any of the rules.... :headscratch:

:dontknow:

Did anyone get a Warning or anything from the Mods?

I haven't got one yet.....

I would have thought we woulda been spanked by now if anyone was outa line...

But I guess the vote is not in yet :(

I hate these long Jury deliberations....

Talk about Range! Georgia brown- reported to have the largest documented rage has a song on youtube- she hits a g8 whistle...Oh MY! Check it out the one at the end 4:34 .... :O ,,,then sprinkled through the next minute--makes Mariah and Christina look kind of "pale" in comparision

ok, i listened but sorry i personally can't count that sound that she made at the 4:43 mark singing...it's just a note period....sounded like a high pitched mouse, JMO....has singing really come to that? who can squeak out the highest note wins?

now in opera that's real singing to me, they work at what they do and they use 100% of their voice or close, to me they are the true pro's , when they hit a note by golly u know it was hit, nothing squeaky about it, nothing but pure power....i was not impressed at all with her so-called range....

if a singer has an 8 octave range yet sucks at singing what good is it? to me nothing....i guess i'm old fashioned but i just like pure singing,  all this is JMO...

ok Billy I went and checked it out too...cant say that it impresses me either, I went and listened to a bit more of her and have to ask, if she sounds that good in her lower range why the hell does she bother bout the whistle crap...refer to oh happy day...the sound on the clip is really badly distorted but her voice in her lower range is a soulful as one would wish for

Thank you for pointing out this link. I listenened and would like to contribute my $.02 worth.

Is the G#8 in her range? Yes, obviously (she hit it quite cleanly and sustained it in a very controlled manner). And it seemed to fit the overall context of the song, albeit as some might say an ornamentation, so yes it can be argued that it is "singing". Can anyone actually enunciate any text at this high range? I don't really know. And, does that mean for something to be considered "singing" requires that one be able to actually enunciate text? Maybe someone can answer this one; otherwise, I think we would have to conclude that, yes this is truly singing (although some listners may find this range a bit obnoxious to listen to).

Is this range useful in conventional singing? Probably not, since according to the Guniess Book of World Records, the highest note actually written in any composition is a G7 (a whole octave below the G#8 )- although this particular aria is not considered to be standard repertoir. The highest note written in standard literature is an F7- and you can hear this right here on SS courtesy of Operakitty and her sub "Der Holle Roche" from Mozart's "The Magic Flute".

A side note here- for those claiming to have an 8-octave range; you do realize that you are saying that you are able to sing in this range also, unless your claim is that you have an extremely low range extending at least an octave below the lowest note on the piano keyboard- but that would still mean that you are able to sing to almost within at least an octave of this G#8.
