Bingo - Swingcat's got it right. I find most of my pencils in the box behind the bar.  LMAO

Lessons I've learned:

* People tend to walk away with pens more than pencils.
* Golf pencils walk away less than full size pencils.
* waitresses & bartenders have a disease called cleptokaraokepencilectomy.

I have a cup full of golf pencils left for me by one of the bands that has lasted forever. I don't mind advertising for this band and I get free pencils.  LMAO

walmart sells a pack of 10 cheep pens for $.49 ..so thats a nickle each. I end up replacing a pack about every 2 months..Ill deal with it.  another thing to think of is that they last longer if there arent a bunch around. I usually go with 1 a book. being Im computerised more and more of my singers just come and ask for there song. I myself prefer the interaction.

I wouldn't spend the extra money to print your info on the golf pencils unless you can do it cheaply. The golf pencils I've been using have a bands name on them. I have had one person notice so far. I think people notice that stuff more when it is a freebie to take home with them. Like a pen.  LMAO

dr. fred Im pretty sure that in you're situation the bar needs to be buying the pens, dont worry bout scarfing them at other shows.
on a side note, last night I had a fellow KJ at one of my shows. I think a lost the pen out of the book he used       :(

A lot of those dollar stores have "bags o pens" for sale for a buck. Also if you prefer really nice pens, see if you can get the freebies drug companies give to your doctor. They probably have tons. I got a bunch of nice pens from my bank just by asking.

Tried the $ store pens, for a buck you get 12 pack of almost useless pens - always had complaints on either not writing or leaking really bad, Walmart has the 12 pack for $.50 that are ok - this is my choice.

Yea and you kroke people with your cheap pens. You see them runned over in parking lots and gutters The ink is dripping into streams and rivers and killing rainbow trout. There are reports of of bull frogs in Missouri ponds that dont croak anymore they yodel. There are carp jumping out of lake erie and they sing "start spreading the blues"

The blue ink is starting to turn green oceans into hues of yellow. Canadian krokers are turning ice bergs blue. It is raising the average temp .0000000000048 per year..

And I think all slips should be shredded and disposed in an empty Dr Pepper bottle with the cap glued with elephant glue.

DING!

ALTHOUGH, you CAN do a custom inprint (for the record, I like the "soft liner" pens) job on pens or golf pencils at online wholesalers / imprinters and the price upfront for a thousand or four is a bit much, when you break it down to cost per pen and the fact that they're GOOD pens, it really isn't a big deal.

Also, wally world sells 20  packs of GOOD Bic pens for a $2.59... or close to that. Yes, they'll leave eventually due to sticky fingers, but the cost isn't so much. I mean, $2.59 + tax (although swingcat or odie doesn't know what that is! LOL!) isn't so much to ask for a successfully ran show!

I don't know how many of you are aware that the local Goodwill (we have 3 in my area) are a great source of binders (inevitably someone drops off 15-20 like new 2" white binders with the clear front) - I pay 99 cents each for binders from there and when I see new ones come in, I pick them up for future. Also, I have found huge bags of working pens (probably 100 or more) for 99 cents. Have also found plain white paper new in packages, and vinyl sheet protectors - all of this new, unopened in packages. If you have the time, it's definitely worth the hunt. This has saved me hundreds of dollars over the years.

Karen what an awesome idea. We just had a huge brand new Goodwill store open up in town. I will for sure check it out - thanks.

It's obvious that you should try and mate a pen with a clothes hanger. Keep them in your closet and see what happens.

Um, you get a hanger that leaves inkstains on your clothes or a pen that keeps your shirts from wrinkling?

a computer system helps the paper problem. I would say 75% of my song requests are verbal. saves on paper and pens!

Back before I went slip-free, I used the stay put pens with the chains that you can get at Office Max.  I'd stick them to the inside cover of the songbook.  Never lost one!

About 2 weeks ago my sister in law gave me a bunch of free pens from her work. I put out about ten of them. I now have zero left.  LMAO My pencils are still there though.
