My suggestion is "When A Man Loves a Woman". I won a contest with this song and it ALWAYS gets a great response from younger and older people. The best version I have ever heard is on KaraokeBay "Classic Hits from the Movies" because it has a very dramatic saxaphone at the start. It's also on my website if you want to hear it (although I didn't do that great recording it).
Here's Karaokebay's website with this particular CDG:

Hi. From the songs you mentioned, an idea for a song for you came to mind...If you want to do a newer song, how about Waiing For You by Seal? Its in a similar range to Elton John, and is sort of a ballad but with a beat.

I Believe, by Diamond Rio
It's Your Song, by Garth Brooks
If You Ever Have Forever In Mind, by Vince Gill
Faithfully is great, but I hate it cause it is always used to beat me! It's the "show stoper" that my "Newman" sings everytime for final competition. Ther is never a question as to what he's going to sing.
Good Luck!

Whatever I put in always comes out Sinatra
I put my own voice where my keyboard is recently. I went to a place I hadn't been to before thinking it was just a normal Karaoke Club. It was, but that night they were hosting a contest. There were probably a couple hundred people in the place and it was sponsored by one of the local radio stations who broadcast their show from there. I had never been in a comp before, but reluctantly, I entered. Nervous as wet hen and being confined to use only their songbook, I delivered a rather stunning version of New York, New York (I think even 'Ol Blue Eyes would have smiled ). I came in second place with it . Considering my limited talent and utter lack of desire to be a star, I was elated. Point being, I think it was the song (and a pretty good approximation of the Sinatra style) that got me second place, more so than my only slightly better than average voice.

Adding my vote for At This Moment. That is a very powerful, show stopping song when done well. A couple of other thoughts, Me and Mrs. Jones (can't remember off hand who sang that) or Sinatra's That's Life, for something a little more up-beat.
I love God Bless The USA, but if it's perceived as being sung as a "suck up" song, it could end up working against you.
My 2 cents.

sgeorgeIII - Not sure who "dude" is. If its me, I'm the one with the tired old songs. I didn't win anything (was runner up) and my postings on this subject are just incidental. My most recent one just happens to be on the top of page 2. The poster of this topic is at the top of page 1 (sparky 101). I think the songs he's been winning with are quite a bit newer than Joe's. He's the one that we are waiting to hear results from. Thank's for the compliment though; I am quite talented.
PS - I think Joe's Music is very poignant and I have sung both you have listed with good results (lots of applause). I posted one of those song titles on another topic and just used "Mad Dogs And Engishmen".

And, on the subject of 'tired old songs' I'm just going out to sing a whole bunch of them this afternoon for a senior citizens Christmas party and I can't wait! These 'tired old songs' are actually classics which is why they are still around!
Let's see who's singing Beyonce in 30 years time!

Hello everyone sorry for the late post but have been very sick with the flu I did Very well but not good enough.. there were 24 singers and only 4 could go on to the finals... I sang one song glory from the musical rent.. I was going to do this is the moment from jekyl and hyde but had to make a last min change..
I am saving this is the moment for next season.. and a few other from your choices.... I am still sick and have to do a performance later this month I am going to open for The Hypno-chick at the theater I have also opened for New Nashville Recording artist Kalvin Wayne
So even if I don't win is is a great oppurtunity and a lot of fun...
