I'll tell ya, the best bet for me is itunes.  that way if someone comeup and requests something i don't have, i donwload it and bam!  i can play it in about 3 minutes.  of course you'll have to have internet connection.  i use an air card so i have connection anywhere a mobile phone works.

If you use ITunes in a commercial envirement you are violating your itune's software agreement.

hiya Steve hugs n thanks for answering...the puter will never be connected I dont think...so that makes it kinda redundant.
there wont be a dj either so it needs to be relatively simple to navigate and source the material they want to play

I am sooo anal about letting anyone near gear but it aint mine its the hotels so I just have to reel in my feelings

Hope you don't get a lot of hackers that try and do more than just search and que songs.

Yep, that's a disaster waiting to happen.  It's waaaay under RAMmed even to run XP.  If you can't find anything to do the job I would be happy to take a whack at it.

I'm not sure how you would do this for hire...explain that a little better. If you just want to run music for 4 hours, this will work. If someone that doesn't know what their doing messes with it...I think you'll have problems no matter what.

Actually I am using Roxbox for karaoke and DJ it is pretty well simple and mess proof.. I hire this system out to teens for all night slumber parties..

I really dont know what they can mess up that I cant fix in 10 seconds. I have done all night gigs at the farm and a 12 year  old is sitting there hosting like a pro.. It aint rocket science..

Morgan,

There is juke box software that you can get for $29 that will interface with a touch screen. That's what I use. For $99 you can make it coin-op.

The lay over touch screen might be a cheap way to do it, I have never tried them.

Agreed Ollie the only prob is they are expecting to do this with the ONLY laptop they have to hire out and if we had a conference or seminar the next morning requiring the use of the lappy....well you see the potential for mayhem and loss of credibility

I use OTS Dj for my DJ work  www.otsdj.com

I have been using this program now for about 4 years and I love it. It utilizes "Dynamic Signal Processing" that converts a normal MP3 and gives it a real kickin' sound.

Download their demo and give it a whirl. I think I paid $99 and it's well worth the $

Not sure about that system requirement thing...I ran it on a P3...needed XP tho. You need a dual head card to run Karaoke. TV out is the second "head".

There are a few other programs out there. I'll put some other links up.

I tested about 10 of them before I found the one I like. Jukebox Pro is not the one I use on my systems. I'm out of town right now and not at my normal computer, so I'll put the info up if I can find it or else when I get home.
