Jan. 22 2007 the "Re: Do you Sing in Hopes of Picking Up someone" thread celebrates it's 1 year anniversary.  (And we guessed this thread would last what ?  Maybe 10 posts -or a few hours- at best a year ago ?

How many other threads in KS history have almost never in the course of a year fallen far from page 1 ?

Much to my surprise, I just managed to pick up my dirty socks (Isis, please take note)!

Anyway, can we give them to Billy?

I most heartily agree with Isis' last post.

And FINALLY, in response to Morgan's banner -
THE ONLY PROBLEM WITH WOMEN IS THAT THEY THINK EVERYONE OF THEIR PROBLEMS HAS BEEN CAUSED BY A MAN!

As to me, I'm too old to pick up my socks, and singing won't help!

sweety I dye my hair red as a direct reflection of the volatility of my nature, do you REALLY want to start with me?  LMAO

Lets see... When I sing, it is in the hopes of compliments, not picking up women.  However, I have heard radio djs talk about certain songs and make comments like, "if a guy could that song as good as the original artist, they would get laid by any woman they want" and I would think to myself, "Hmmm...."  I have, however, not attempted to sing any of those songs.  I try to sing what I enjoy or what may be entertaining.

However, my aspiring to be a kj of my own.... that may have some underlying expectations...  :reddevil:

Darling Red,

I stand by my post and would do so even if your hair were purple, fire flared from your eyes and thunderbolts from your palms.

When I got into the business, the guy that taught me how to do it said women will approach you & hit on you, touch you, etc. I told him I didn't think that would happen to me, because first of all - I'm not much to look at.
What I didn't realize is that when people see you up there behind a mic, and entertaining the crowd - some view that as something big & fun. So, people will women will come flirt with you. I just do my best to ignore it & pretend like I'm busy. If it escalates, I'll just tell them that I'm married, and my wife wouldn't appreciate what is happening, and I wouldn't want to see men hording all over her either. The man that taught me was right, and I didn't think it would happen, but it does. There have been many times where I could have taken advantage of women where I work, but I love my wife and that's not what I'm about. All my regulars know that. Shoot, there's even a couple of girls that come to my show that get real defensive when they see new women trying to put the moves on me or touching me, etc. It's pretty funny.

When I choose a song to sing, I try to think what would my current audience really like hearing, or appreciate. I try to make selections & filler music based on what would entertain my crowd.

Or holding a guitar, playing the drums, etc..  In the eyes of certain viewers, a person performing takes on a type of celebrity status.  That always bothered me, it really did.. Musicians/performers are just people.. In fact I ended up turned off by the type that would only take notice of a member of the opposite sex if they were "performing" beit sports, arts, etc.. It means nothing besides a one-night stand (at best) which was fine 20+ years ago... It made for fine bait on a hook, but besides that it's superficial, just empty.   It's that groupy mentality that chases figures and fantasy, without acknowledgement of the real person.. Similarly I view internet "crushes" and flirting in a comparable way.  I'm a person, not a "typed composition that has Male in the profile". This isn't who I am.. It's how I've learned to present myself.   There's a whole can of worms underneath the packaging !

As they say,  "love me, love my worms".

Back to work,  things are crazy around here. I mean crazier

I have seen this thread many times but never really took time to think on it.  When I sing, I am completely interested in entertaining the crowd before me. I have to admit, like Steven, when I was in my teens, being hit on by women when I came off the stage was a lot of fun.  He is also right in that these women only provided a one night stand. I am way too old to play those games now. I am much more interested in a relationship where there is really something to build on. I have finally found that type of relationship and plan on getting married in June. I do remember about 3 years ago I was walking off stage when a really pretty blonde woman stands up from her table and throws her arms around me.  I gently pulled away from her to be able to look at her as she started talking about how much she loved to listen to me sing.  All the time I was listening politely, I am thinking that tomorrow she wont even remember talking to me.  I looked down at her table to see all to stacked shot glasses lined up and realized I was right. Women like that do not impress me.  I have had them follow me to resturants after shows and offer me the world, but I never went on stage to try and get that attention. If a guy is half way talented, this sort of thing is going to happen to you, but I have always found myself drawn to the women who did not know I even sing.  Now it is much harder.  Everywhere I go for a couple hundred miles around where I live, people know my face, have heard me on the radio, or have attended one of my shows.  I have to admit I do like the semi-celebrity attention...being talked to in resturants etc. about my shows.  I dont want to sound like I have a big ego, I don't. I feel very lucky to have found a small measure of success over the years as an entertainer.  I still try to figure out what it is that people are drawn to. All I know is that I really love to play my guitar and sing. When I am on stage, I find myself in a world surrounded by steel guitars, fiddles, and beautiful music. I really like that!--Mike

Mike I don't think anyone could read what you wrote and consider you had a big ego. I think its wonderful to acknowlege the place you have worked damned hard to get in the world and to do so with humility as you have done.

As Isis said before: "I like a CONFIDENT man"

Let me reiterate:   I dont sing in hopes of being picked up. I sing because the LADIES HOPE TO PICK ME UP!!
