I notice Phill stopped in and made mention of possible coding issues regarding revisions. Do people also realize that despite poll results, this is the idea of members, but site authority (administration) might very well NOT wish for such changes ? It'd be ashame for people to see that unanimous change is requested (by current membership), only to find out down the road that these poll's aren't useful since the site is "as-is" for reasons beyond our individual scope.
JMO..
Wouldn't it be best for somebody to type to administration first and ask if they are receptive to changing certain site layouts ?
You might wish to edit heading to read " Poll: Proposed changes members request administration consider". Not all read posts, they see the heading and assume this poll is coming from site authority

ya know Kappy I was just lying in bed before in that limbo state of neither completely awake or asleep and I could have been dreaming of some hunky male, but no I was tossing the changing options over in my head and yep the thought of contacting the site Gods certainly came to mind

Steven, this poll and thread of Luly's came about as a request by Chuck on page 2 of the original 'What Does It Take?...' thread. On the first post of that thread I indicated that I wasn't even sure that our discussions could make a difference.
But yes, I will go ahead and send a PM directly to Admin and ask if our opinions here could be used to instigate a real change in the SS format. Phill's comment in this thread of Luly's did seem encouraging despite the concern over the actual required change in software programming.

True Don. I get a little carried away sometimes.
I should have done this myself but I'm trying not to start too many threads anymore. I didn't think how this might cause other people embarassment.

Yes.. I remember all the bickering that this subject inspired.
Simply removing it will not solve everything but it sure will curb any competitive back stabbing.
I think most are here for the social interaction and fun.... anybody who is here to get a serious evaluation will probably not get an honest one anyway.... unless they PM someone they feel can really give them a detailed one.
I don't comment too often anymore... I do however stop in and listen from time to time. If something inspires me I comment on it. I hated the atmosphere that erupted here awhile back when many were called "fluffers"... there was an elitist attitude here that really made me sick. It sucked the friendly atmosphere right out of this place. The JFF people were considered hacks... guttless...etc. I have always been serious .... but the ranking system in the hands of people who are in a "competition" {in their minds} with others is ridiculous.

There's no embarrassment involved here at all Chuck. As for you being worried about having started too many threads around here, I actually haven't seen enough threads by you lately! You should go start a couple! :)

OK, I have officially sent a PM to both Admin and Phill plus an e-mail asking if our suggestions could indeed be implemented into the Singer's Showcase. I'll update you with whatever response I receive from them.

OK, Well I guess saying "Assume the position" wouldn't sound too innovative right now then.

Thank you, Sher.
And THAT folks is it in a nutshell. Linda, I'd love for humankind to always be nice to each other, but circumstances, tempers, misunderstandings, a host of variables make us act less than wonderfully at all times. Even the most mature person can lose their cool if the wrong buttons are pushed. Some people can write off things quickly, others have got to let them linger and perpetuate. I believe the SS system is fine the way it is, but it's the people that cause it to fail. Rules are already set and in place and can be read on this site in several places. Yet, they're not always followed. So by tweaking the features a little, we can maybe control certain situations a little better. I certainly hope what we're proposing will work out for everyone and boost the morale here. I really love this site and its people and always do my part to keep it as happy as possible. I hope we can always co-exist in harmony in our SS world, and I hope these tools will get us there.

OK, I just received an e-mail response from the Karaoke Scene administration and they said that they would be happy to review whatever format changes we may decide upon. But they also stated that they could NOT make a promise to implement them. To repeat, our plans will be considered though.

If the problems with ranks and critiques are really as bad as people here seem to think, perhaps we should ask ourselves what the value of having them is. You can take away the ranks if you want, but there is no way to force people to leave only certain kinds of comments. Even if you can have the singer delete them, the singer will still see them.
Is it possible that the problems resulting from comments override any value they really have? I'm not saying this is the case; I'm just asking. Would we be willing to have a Singers Showcase with no acrimony, no backstabbing, no cruel comments, no revenge ranking, if it meant that no one could comment at all? Because it seems to me that people who sub under the "L" category never seem to have any problems, but very few people do it. Maybe more should.
Just throwing it out for consideration.

Personally, the only times I’ve used the L option is when, for whatever reason, I can’t answer replies (and it's only been once or twice). I enjoy reading comments immensely. It’s sort of like my prize for spending the time to record a song. Much like getting applause. I get satisfaction hearing from my peers what they thought about my efforts.

I've no plans to submit anything on SS right at the moment, but perhaps one of the other singers here might mention the polls going on in the forum in their next submission on SS--the ones mostly affected by any suggested changes are the regular contributors to SS. and while some regular SS (Luly, Jesse, Linda, etc.)contributors have been involved here there are probably many more that probably should know about this, if only to vote on any changes. Generally speaking, historically very few singers seem to make any postings in the forums so probably never look on this side to begin with!
Thanks,
Michael
