Just out of curiosity, what happens if you happen to mess up the song - pick the wrong one by mistake or something?  Can't effectively have the next one cued & ready if you are still starting the next one.

It shouldn't take much more than 10 seconds to change it if you know your library. maybe 20 seconds if you have to look it up.

First of all, real KJs have two machines.   So one is constantly loaded.      So "if" I would ever "mess" up a song, I should hurry up and play filler music????  Then what???   Tell jokes, do some magic, put on a costume?   LMAO

Second of all, real KJs never make mistakes.    I even have a microphone to the next person in line, so if for some reason a song skips or glitches, I can immediately switch to the next singer and fix the problem, while they are singing and then I'll get back to the one that had the problem.

Thirdly, there is never a wait for someone to come crawling to the stage.  Everyone sings from their seat.   No waiting.    This is 2006.  Check you calenders.

Back-to-back means just that.   No screwing around.   There is no need for me to waste the singers time with "filler" music.   Non stop music from the first note to the last.   Four solid hours of song. :worship:

Do you want to learn how to do good karaoke or just talk about it? :D

Sounds like a karaoke assembly line. I like getting up on stage. I have a great need for attention.

Whether you are on a stage or standing on the floor.  You are the only one singing and all of the attention is still on you.    Unless I'm dressing up and doing magic tricks, while the song plays.   Then everyone looks at me...

We all sing from the floor, the mic got pass from table to table. The 'stage' is more of a dance floor. Tv mon. , are wall mounted and positioned in such a way that any singer from any tables will have view of at least 2 tv.

The biggest problem is that the mic grows legs every few months. Or some drunks use the half full beer jug as the mic holder.

See why we don't use a 600$ mic.

Oh great, he lines them up and makes them sing from their butts. How insensitive.

That's not PC at all, I had my butt removed because of a terrible accident with a dead fish. Now I'm just goona sit in the corner and cry. :D

Thanks a lot BigDog. :)

You use 2 players? I'm sorry I can't remember what everyone uses for equipment. I thought you were computer based. I'm not saying there is anything wrong with that.
I'm just surprised.

Do you have them line up at the stage?

If you don't have them come to the stage - Do you walk the mic to them? I think it is a nice option to have for the people who are shy or just don't like getting up.

99% of my singers sing from the stage. I have a lot of people who enjoy being on stage and in the spot light. Some of them think they're Elvis.  LMAO To me it should be a  personal preference by the singers what they like doing better.

I personally like when people are on stage. I have a couple of people who have a little routine they do to their songs that would never have been discovered if they were sitting in their chairs. These guys steal the show when they perform. I love it!

So probably a good portion of the kj's here run 1 player, they aren't real?  They're all fake?

Scenerio, you have 2 players, understandable.  1 player is playing, you cue up the next song & get it ready.  Player one is finishing out & ends, you start your next song but ooops you pulled the wrong disc & need to change it out quickly...all before you have the chance to pull the last disc to cue up the next singer.  What do you do, let the mistake play & pull the correct disc?  Or just stop the song?  Nobody is perfect...to be perfect would be to cease to exist.

I ran 2 players as well, but still had underlying music playing while I was calling up the next singer...non-stop singing & music, but no cattle call karaoke either.  Singer gets up, filler goes down, even if it was 10 seconds.  There was no time lost to any singer.

There are lots of circumstances that are out of your control.

Someone is singing on the wireless mic and accidently turns it off.
If they are in the crowd it takes a lot of time to get to them and a lot
of the song is missed. so they want to start over.

You start their song and they tell you it is the wrong one or they've changed their mind.

They drop the mic on the floor and it no longer works. You try to hand them another mic, but they are more concerned they broke something than singing.

They disconnect the mic cord from the mic.

They fall off the stage into the tv monitor while singing.

The power goes off.

The singer decides to point the mic directly into a speaker or monitor.

I have been doing it this way for 14 years.   Never had to play filler music.   Don't have blue screens.     Never used a stage except for my stuff and that is never.  The people all sing from the floor and around the bar.    I refuse to put all of my equipment on a stage.   There is working for a living and then there is working for a living.   I don't get paid enough for the second way.    If you play filler music and you have two machines, where is the filler music coming from?   One's loading and one's playing.    Most of the time, I personally hand you the mike.   No lines.   NO cattle call.   Continuous music.   No waiting.   Why does that sound do hard?

I don't use filler music, as half the time, when you turn it off for the singer to start, I got lots of " Hey, put that back on, I was listening to that" And, I refuse to play filler music that no-one wants to hear. That's just as bad. And no-one here seems to mind the short wait between songs waiting for the next singer. I have 3 disks loaded at a time, so it's quick to replace a missing singer. And, If a song comes up as the wrong song, I usually sing it while I get the proper song. Works well, and the listeners think it's great if you can look like you can sing any song, or are at least willing to try it.. Sometimes, it's good for comic relief..lol

I also don't use wireless mics as to get a good sounding one, you have to pay almost double a corded one, and the singers here are way too hard on them for that. And, there are way too many radio interferences around here. I've had a wide rang of wireless mics and so far, have not found one I like at a reasonable price. Since I switched to corded, I have only had one complaint. So now, she brings her own wireless headset. I only let her use it as she helps me out as a ringer when people are slow getting started, and with the kids shows.

I can't afford a high end sound system yet, so I want the best sounding mics I can get at a reasonable price, and that means going corded. That bring ne to stage or floor. I have yet to have someone refuse to come up to the stage. And they had been use to singing from thier tables. So far, almost all singers like it, as they feel more like an entertainer than just some shmuk off the street. The singers that are new to it, like it as I am right there to help them out. Like turning the mic on, singing over thire shoulder so they can get the timeing etc. I have heard some KJs say the singers are more comfortable at thier tables. Maybe, but they will not remember it as much as if they have all eyes an them up front. Makes them feel important. Gives them that feeling like beeing a star for a few moments. And THAT'S why they are singing at the bar instead of at home..

So your singers out number the nonsingers.   I guess this is true for every KJ and I'm in the minority.    I'm confused.    I have been doing it all wrong for 14 years.

So the bar owners don't want anybody in the bar, except the 25 singers.    Sorry if you don't sing you can't spend your money here.     My competition is right across the street, go spend your non singing money over there you bum.    I have my 25 singer limit.   I have the best KJ on this block, look 25 singers and no non singers loafing here, he's the best.

Now I know why you are KJs and not bar owners.  You aren't smart enough to have the 40 IQ required for the license.

Your bar owners are being so screwed by you.    You seriously think you don't need to have and keep nonsingers.    What planet is this?  This must be the Last Comic Standing, right?    Where is the hidden camera? LMAO

Talk about bad KJs.    Who would hire you to cater only to the singers, with no regard to keeping the nonsingers happy and in the bar spending money.   A TOTAL FREAKIN' IDIOT, that's who.

Change your name to Karaoke by Idiot.
So, if you are not speaking to sweetEMT2 then you need to be more specific about who you are talking to.

Come on Big Dog, after you post you can look and see if someone posted before you got the chance to reply. If this is the case then say who you meant your post for. It's that simple. You're a big boy/girl doggy. You can handle it, it's not so tough. :D

I don't use CDGs anymore unless someone brings in their own disc, so I don't have a lot of down time. I don't have to load discs just push a number and then the start button.

I don't really use filler music in my venue because I have back to back singers, so I understand what you are saying about filler music. I use short 5-10 sec. bursts of sound effects or tv jingles because the crowd loves it. The crowd comes unglued if I play sponge bob square pants. They ask for me to play it and they all sing along. It is probably the longest thing I play. Keeping the crowd happy and entertained is the goal. Of course keeping things moving so you can get as many singers in as possible is key, but giving the crowd what they want is key too.

I've also heard KJs say they sing because they enjoy it. Nothing wrong with that, but that takes up singers time also. Isn't that a kind of filler music. Especially if you are saying it is to get the crowd going. I can get the crowd going and singing along with playing sponge bob square pants song and that takes up a lot less time than an entire song.

If you don't need filler music great, but some people use it to entertain their crowd. That I think is being resourceful. Saying they use it because they can't change discs fast enough. That doesn't even make sense because you use a disc to play the music. Someone would have to have 2 players to play filler music or they're pc based. There is no right or wrong to it. It is giving the crowd what they want!

I highly doubt that the majority of my crowd watches Sponge Babe Hot Pants. ;-)  So if I would do anything like that, I would be wasting their time.     Filler music must be coming from the Piped in music system.    I can't figure out how two machines can play filler music either.    Gotta play to those non singers.
