LMAO Sorry BD that bar is busy and thriving still. In fact I'm the karaoke host now and I still get my drinks for free.  LMAO Now quit being such a poo poo head or I'll get out the rolled up newspaper again.

One more thing about the designated drivers.    They chose to not drink as a favor or whatever you want to call it.   They were not forced to drink non alcoholic drinks .   So why should they get drinks for free?    The bartender can chose to shut off anyone at anytime, they think they have had enough alcohol.

So designated driver, is no excuse to drink free and not to pay for the entertainment.

CHEAP, CHEAP, CHEAP    Support the bar owner and the entertainment.

Coffee is not cheap or free.    There is time and money involved in making a cup of coffee.     Maybe free after the entertainment ends.   But not during or before the entertainment.        Free refills during dinner if you must but, No free refills of pop or coffee, after the fork hits the table.

Pay up people.      YOU KJs like to get paid?   Why begrudge the bar owner from making a living so you can sing free?

TIPS do not feed the bar owner.

Bar owners are idiots and I'm still trying to make money for them.  :O    :worship:

It's not even my gig.   :O      Hello................... is anybody home?????? :D

But Babs, BD takes great pride in working for idiot bar owners who underpay him using a system he doesn't know how to hook up properly.

BD has also proven himself an idiot by knowing nothing about the DD programs.  In virtually all juridictions have had these programs for decades.  Any smart bar will participate to avoid lawsuits when someone who has drank too much get in their vehicle and kill or maim someone.   It's not only smart but it is being responsible.  But then again even though dogs can do some tricks they're not that smart.

Coffee, as much as people are lead to believe, will not sober anyone up, no matter how much of it you drink. I see no benefit of giving it away free. I've always expeienced KJs drinking for free, and some of them really are hammered by the end of the night......I personally like to stay sober when I'm working.....drunk guys don't last very long in a fight.....lol....and I always anticipate one happening, though as I get older, I prefer more diplomatic solutions......fighting a drunk guy, always reminded me of a bull fight, and I found myself shouting ole' here and there......sure, I've been horned now and then, but those scars give an aging face character...... :)

You know now that I think about it I am saving the bar owner money by drinking coffee. The karaoke host before me drank beer for free all night. I only drink coffee and water that saves the bar owner a few bucks.

Do you get your drinks for free when you work? Maybe you should pay for your drinks when you work you cheap bas- turd  LMAO

BD Says bar owners are idiots.

HMMM.....So  apparently he thinks the same of the OWNER WHERE HE SUPPOSEDLY KJ's. Bar owners are bar owners and BD DID make an ALL-INCLUSIVE STATEMENT.

Amazing that he holds his EMPLOYER in such LITTLE REGARD.  I wonder if ol' BD would have the manly BALLS to tell him that to HIS FACE!! I rather think not.

Really an INSULTING STATEMENT about the person THAT PAYS HIM and gives HIM the PRIVELEGE of performing at his establishment and provides him with his SUPPOSED LIVELYHOOD!!

I sure as HELL would not allow someone with that ATTITUDE to be employed by me!

But I would agree with BD here that YES, HIS BAR OWNER IS an idiot!!.........For ALLOWING BD to Continue to work there!!

The bar owner sets the policy for whether his employees (including KJ's or band members) get free or discounted drinks and food. No KJ's or band members are getting away with anything here!

Most bar owners factor in the free drinks as part of their allowed costs.  I've seen several band contracts where the number of free drinks were part of the contract (normally 1/break plus a 'shifter').

Your statement lacks of common sense. LMAO

I was hired to bring in income, derived from the high quality, non stop, continuos, no filler/dance music added, karaoke that I provide.     It is not a privilege for me to work anywhere.   It is the bar owners privledge to be able to have someone of my high caliber to undertake that contracted task.   I am the one that has built a solid, upstanding, money making reputation.

I can work for anyone.   :O

As they are right now, trying to get me to quit jobs to work for them.   They would consider it a privilege if I worked for them.     I can guess why so many KJs are not held in that regard.   Upgrade.   It pays for itself.  :dancin:

I am a proven money maker.      Not a proven business killer, as most of my hack competition.     Therein lies the privilege.      :O

I can see why you would consider it a privledge.   You're lucky to work at all...... LMAO  LMAO    At half the money I make. :O

Non-drinkers are always welcome. They are paying custies too. They like to sing and participate also. They probably will order some food. They will be buying soda's, coffee, tea, perrier water, fruit drinks etc etc. There's good margin in non-alcholic drinks. They can tip the DJ, bartender/waitress. So dont have all this hostility to NON-BOOZE drinking custies. They pay thier way too. And will probly come back next time when they ARENT the Desig-driver. I know Ive been to MANY karaoke places and didnt buy booze. In fact I usually dont buy alcholic drinks when Im out and about to karaoke bars for a number of reasons---

1. Dont drink and drive

2. Dont drink and write and photograph(More DANGEROUS than drinking and driving  LOL  )

3. Getting drunk makes me sing sloppy. Affects voice control.

4. I always pay for my beverages and tip the waitress, bartender and KJ(if thier good at their job)

5. I usually end up ordering food.

6. Dont care to have a splitting headache hangover the next morning.

7. Have to stay sober in order to DEFEND myself from all the MARAUDING CUTIES
THAT TRY TO HIT ON ME NIGHT AFTER NIGHT AFTER NIGHT!!

8. Have to be sober and in control in order to properly SWING DANCE with all the MARAUDING CUTIES THAT TRY TO HIT ON ME NIGHT AFTER NIGHT AFTER NIGHT!!!

9. And most importantly if I got drunk---NOT EVEN VIAGRA WOULD HELP!!!!  LMAO  LMAO  LMAO

So I seldom go to bars and drink alchohol......but the bar ALWAYS makes some money off me and thats good by me---as it should be!!

Hmmmm.....seeing how all the cuties my age are usually with a guy already, and the cuties about half my age aren't lookin' for a sugardaddy, and all the regulars know I'm a married karaoke drunk 500 miles away from home, the hat and glasses would probably bring a good laugh. I got the Hawaiian shirt thing covered though.  LMAO  LMAO

Some people talk as if non-spending (or low-spending) customers at a bar are peculiar to karaoke nights.  They're not, at least not at a lot of the places I've been to around my town.  It's a college town, so maybe that makes a difference, but I think it's fairly common to see a group of four to ten people come in together and have a few of them not buy anything.

As a bar owner, it would be nice if you could make a profit out of everybody who comes in the door.  But you can't.  You just accept that some people are going to get a free ride as a cost of doing business.  You can charge a cover, or a per-song fee for karaoke, but in doing so you're taking the risk that they (and their more free-spending friends) will find some other place that doesn't.

Personally, I'd be willing to pay a small cover (a dollar or two) for a place that has karaoke, but as soon as a place across town has karaoke and no cover, I'll go to that place, other things being basically equal.  Consumer choice: the boon of bar patrons and bane of bar owners.

Just as a thought, but is anyone familiar with venues for karaoke singing that cater to non-drinkers (i.e. sober clubs)?
