I have a Plextor 760A in my computer.  Is there a program that will open with my CDG disk to show the words, as well as play the song, without having to copy the disk to hard drive ?

Bernie

yeah, but to gain full use, you need to pay $24.95 to register it.
And it is quite buggy.
you can also puchase tricearsoft's mimic Audition 2.
Or cavs player will do it too.

THIS PLAYER WORKS GREAT DOES WHAT IT IS SUPOSED TO DO. You need to have all your .CDG Files and the WinAmp Media files placed in your WinAmp folder

Is this so ?

Danny

Is this the case with  the ones you mentioned ?

there are two different karaoke plugins, one plays off of the cdg disc itself ($24.95 for the fully functioned) and the other works with files on the hardrive(free).  it doesn't matter what folder the songs are in.  What happpens is when you setup the hard drive plugin, it  is in the general plugins.  The off the disc one is in the input plugins.  The off the disc wil only play 60 seconds until you register it.

I went with the Power Karaoke Player Pro for $39.  It seems to work just fine.

Thanks to everyone

Microstudio from MTU.com will play cdg's straight from the disk.

the Big Plus is it will also copy the disk, or individual tracks, and let you make custom cdg's

I have 4 customs I made from my library, that have 20 songs each on them. If I had not made the customs to take to shows, I would be carrying about 100 disks. But all of my favorites are on the 4 cd's :O

I think it is about $39.95...... cheep for all the features.

BTW it can play full screen........

I have MTU Hoster but these two programs are what I use at home. I think they work very well and they keep adding cool features to make it easier to use.

another option I have used at shows is this... When somebody brings up a cd Using CloneCd we build an image file img into a folder on the hard drive Then give back the cd to the customer.  Then with Daemon tools we have a virtual drive configured thus...  yamaha, mod CRW8424s... The img is mounted onto the drive.  I used Cavs pe player years ago for a few years and use it tp play the selection desired although any software player and windows sees the virtual drive as a real drive....

I have been using KARAFUN. It's great. Plays off the CD or from your hard drive. Also plays MID and KAR files. And, the bnackgrounds are changable. I use it for the shows at the schools as I have a lot of KAR files that are not out on CDG. But tghey also bring in thier own disks and so far, it seems to be the one program that does it all, including recording.. And, it's freeware.......

I love karafun, thanks Echo.  :handshake: I am just getting into this, and you showed me the way to karafun.  I was using LD Player, but it wasn't as good.  I am now trying to find a way to copy CD+G onto my Laptop and audiograbber will do it, but I don't think it is saving it as the correct type of file.  What can I use to save the files as CD+G so I can use KARAFUN to play them right off my hard drive?  thanks again - Jim[

Audio grabber will do it fine. At the top, use the drop down menu " CD " and then use " Grab CDG Tracks " and " Grab to .cdg and compressed file "The file will files, ( 2 per song ) will probably be saved into Audiograbbers own folder.

If the songs do not sound very good, you may have to change your save sittings. But we will leave that for next class..lol Let me know how you make out.

Larry

I had Winamp with all the extras, but I couldn't get it to read anything and since I have no patience I said heck with it, went to CAVS and got their PlayCDG SP player. It costs $69.99, but it will play everything: MCGs, CDGs, CDG discs, SCDG discs, has a full equalizer and I just love it. Plus with CAVS, as long as you have your key and proof of purchase, you can redownload their programs if your PC crashes or goes through an upgrade. I just wrote to them and they sent me a new download link. I didn't even bother to get my winamp back and probably won't. Just my thoughts...

I like Karafun!  it is pretty darn cool for freeware.  I can see why they offer it for free.  it is easy to use and they give you enough stuff for it to be usable, so you will say "hey, I should buy the upgraded version!"  Maybe I will, but I'm going to see what I can do for free first.  That comes from buying too much stuff and realizing later I paid $$$ for something I could have got for free or for much lower $$$, because I didn't need or even want all the bells and whistles.  Like Matt Damon said in Goodwill Hunting "you dropped 150 grand on a forking education you could have got for a dollar fifty in late charges at the public library."  You do get what you pay for only if you spend time and brain cells firgirn out what you really want, why, and what it is.  My brothers wife is a perfect example of this!  It's too bad my bro didn't keep his receipt.....Anyway, back to karaoke, I just can't get the darn cdgs to save yet on my hard drive.  but I haven't tried what echo said yet.  I will in the morning though.  Thanks for your post vette!  jim

I'm not sure if I need to get the up-grade to Karafun. It has all I need at this time. Plays CDGs on disk. It's free. Plays CDGs on hard drive. It's free. Plays midi files. It's free. It records. It's free, It has cool backgrounds. Oh, did I mention, it's free..lol

Just for the record, PlayCDG SP is extremely easy to use - I had no trouble with it - its totally self explanatory...I have ADHD - if it was complicated it would be outta here LOL. The down side is its not free, but it is just a one time charge and it kicks butt!!

yes. Thanks Echo!  :oh yeah:  I was just tired last night I guess.  I see that AG saves it as 2 files.  I have a few questions.    :?:

What is the best and easiest way to save them?  My laptop is not connected to the Inet now so maybe I should save them on this computer with the Inet (since the net will name them for me, correct?), then copy them onto a data disk to put on my laptop renamed?  does this make sense or am I making more work for myself?  I want to do 100 disks.

So, I assume karafun recognizes the 2 formats and combines them as one or knows precisely how to run the two at the same time and in the correct manner to get a good output?

Now that I know some of the basics, let me in on the slightly more advanced stuff.  Is there something fairly cheap and small I can buy to make all this music sound way better than just coming straight out of my laptop with one silly microphone coming out of the laptop itself?  I only have 2 cheap mics that were 8 bucks each.  Will a 30 dollar microphone be worth the extra dollars?  Maybe I should get a decent external sound card?  Thanks - Jim :bouncer:

You have questions?? Well, you came to the right place for them. You could get inundated with differing ideas. lol Me, I like to try to keep it simple. BUT, so far, that's not working..lol

Anyways.........

Doing the work on the comp conected top the internet is the better way to go as it does help keep the names correct. That is how I do mine, then transfer to other system by rewright disk. Takes longer, but works fine.

Karafun ( as with others ) needs both files. They are linked by cross commands built in to the program. If you try to play one, it looks for the other. That's why the names need to be the same. and kept in the same directory. Karafun has pretty good sound control. Pitch, timing etc. The pitch is probably my most usewd buttons.lol. Non of the songs I sing are recorded in my key.. Figures..lol

The change of background pictures is a little complicated at first, but sure makes for a better show. I have pictures on there from nature, to pictures of stars on stage, to cartoons. It's just time consuming and does take up a fair amount of space on the Hard drive..lol

As for sound, Karafun has an echo built in, ( I never tried it as I use an echo machine mixer befor the mic gets to the comp. so not sure what it's like. Reverb units are not very expensive now-a-days. And you will likely prefer tyhe sound of one over using a software reverb. And yes, a better mic will help. There are lots of good quality mics at low prices. Like Apex and Dixon and The Singing Machine. . The price for those 3 run from $14.00 up to $69.00. But I would try befor you buy. Any music store will let you.
