After I do a show I pack up and I'm out the door. It isn't that I
don't like the people or that I wouldn't have fun if I stayed. I usually
have to work the next morning and I want to get home to my family.

People give me grief about it all the time. It's where are you going
and hey stay for a drink. I'm there all night if they want to talk to me.
I want to go home.

Do you guys stay and party with your patrons?

Bab's,  It's the nature of a Bar atmosphere, and alcohol... People are like that... Especially males when they see an attractive female  


Look at it this way.  It beats what happens to me when I go to bars..

"Kappy,  we want to party now,  now SHOE.... go away"... (and they throw water on me)

I play to 2am everynight, right up to the bar closes. I'm usually packed by 2:30 - 2:40 by then most customers are gone there may be a few hanging around.

I usually stay for at least 1 drink and shot with the owner and bar staff.

There soooo hard to say no to aren't they?

Many folks just don't understand what it's like to work all day and then work all night, so they are not thinking of you just finishing an 18hr day.

Sometimes I will sit down and have a quick one with them but it is a rare occurence. I hire a KJ to do my weekend bar gig so occasionally I will stop in to have a couple of cold ones and sing a few with our customers and mingle for a few hours.

The only comment that seems to work with folks for me is to say:

Man I would really love to, but I've got a long way to drive and there are always tons of cops on they way there. As tired as I am tonight it would not be a good idea if I have a drink and then try to drive. I'm sure you can relate to that....

I live your pain Babs! I work a 12 hour day before going into the bar that night. By the time I'm off duty, packed up and leaving, I've been up for 21-22 hours.

They can STICK the drink and partying... it's all I can do to walk out the door!

That's a good one Kappy!  I should have used that back in my single days!

Babs, don't feel stressed or guilty for being a "Party Poop"....Most of the regulars you see pleading with you to hang should be home anway.

Look at it this way, you have a reason to be there, many of them don't...You have a life and family and responsibilities to go home to, many of them don't.

I ain't saying all the folks in bars are losers, I'm just sayin I hope you find a way to feel better about the situation.

Good lord, when you have to pack up equipment...... maybe even load it to haul it home each night (I know some do, and some don't)......... they need to let you go about your business. Especially since you have to get up for a day job as well.

I only karaoke on weekends, so I'm guilty of trying to coerce the KJ into staying. There's a couple of the guys that will hang out and have a drink & visit. But then again, they have become friends of mine, and we go out other places together & such too. But- on nights they DO have to leave quickly- to get home to kids, or cause they gotta be up early........ I would never hassle them. That's rude.

I'd just tell 'em "Sorry, got a day job to get up for in the morning, and if I fall flat on my face from exhaustion...... you wont have a KJ tomorrow night!!" That should shush them up.  LOL

When I used to play in bands full time, I would head straight home after the gig.
By the end of the night you just don't feel like or have the time to hang out with everyone who's still there.  Of course if it really was an exceptionally fun crowd, then hang around for awhile.

When I played bars seldom was there anyone to "hang out" with afterwards...  Most of the time, we'd stop shortly before last call, grab a drink, and as the bar was kicking people out, we'd begin knocking down, and hauling stuff out assuming it was our final night of playing a particular bar, or assuming we were just booked for one night. Depending on the state, ie.. NY state with the extra hour, it'd be light out by time we were pulling out've the bar parking lot... Last call (as I vaguely recall for bars that had the extra-hour license at one point in the 1970's at least) was about 4:30, I seem to remember the bars shutting down at 5AM assuming they had the additional hour..  Yeah, "stuff" happens sometimes.. Yet if a musician makes a habit of "having fun" out in the parking lot someplace, while the rest of the band is knocking down equipment and hauling it out... You aren't going to win too many popularity contests among bandmates   .  The night's we had fun, usually weren't the same night's we were gigging.. Yeah, number's were exchanged of course.. Yet being a musician on the road got kind've weird and interesting... Playing concert's was a real trip... You have to stay tough, and keep a positive mind-set to hang-in that type existence.. It's no piece of cake.

The "Hedonist's" smorgassboard was playing university and college campus Spring and Octoberfests...Dang..  That got wild

Octoberfest--You want to talk about wild. Try Oktoberfest in Munich, close to the BeerGarten and Paulaner Brewery.  Luckily, the vast majority of people there either took the UBahn or rode their bikes.

Out've all the places in europe I'd have loved to have visited. I ended up going to Greece  :(   Not that it was a total waste, the Island's and Aegean Sea were gorgeous, but I didn't really enjoy old ruins.. I'd rather go to a scenic place...THe Alps sound gorgeous, but I've never been West of NY state... I wonder how the Alps compare to the Rockies ?   Seems to me that some of the prettiest places are right here in our own country...  I think I'd be quite attracted to the German women, blond hair and blue eyes ?   Even some of the Irish women....  Not sure (at least from what I've heard, so basically I have no clue) that the scandinavian features are typically blond hair and blue eyes... Isn't that more of the German, Polish, Portugese and Russian look ?

Is there a country where all the females look like Linda Evans, and Bo Derek ?  I think I'd be curious in learning about the culture..


(especially if those particular females had a fetish for dumpy middle-aged american males)

We were runnin the fiords on our way to moor in Stockholm Sweden. It had the same pines granite rocks and scenes of the Rockies here in co. It was just like driving up Poudre canyon except it was all at sea level not a mile high. I also went on a tour into the Italian Swiss Alps probably close to where they just had the olymphics. We spent a couple of days in a ski lodge. Except for the international influence the scenery and wild life was the same.. Of course here in co here in the valley we are at 4500 feet the foothills start about 4800 so the overall height is alot higher. This is true all along the range even in South America.. My favorite mountains out here tho are the ones like Monument Valley.. Each has a character all its own... There are many regions out here that a very strong indian spiritual presence is felt and I have actually seen indian spirits in the Oregon mountains in Southern New Mexico. Kappy you need to tour the west even if only by a bus tour package. I have been all over the world but the west especially the south west is my favorite part of the world When I am there I can relax and commune with nature for I am home... Melly lives in very interesting for the four corners area is unique in it's own special way... Another observation I made the Islands  in the Caribbean have the rocks and sage brush that the hills in eastern Wyoming have. But all-in-all they are all the same.....

    The Alps are breathtaking espically on the Austrian border. You never realize the vast size and view until you're staring at it head on. Also, the architechure of the germanic landscaping and fitting into modern units and quaint old style villages. I have relatives in Gengenbach, which is near the Black Forest region and that is truly a beautiful place. (Cuckoo)  Clocks that is

Karyoker,  don't they have train trips where you can travel the country by train ?  Not sure the difference between train vs bus..Quite honestly, I've never spent alot of time on a commercial bus, or a train... Not long long hours that is... Yeah, I'd love to see your area, Northern California, Cascades, and New Mexico... Supposed to be absolutely gorgeous..I don't think I'd be thrilled going to Zion, or the Grand Canyon tho... Might even have probs with Mesa area... I get wicked Heightsickness...   Really bad.... I won't go above a second story balcony without wearing a parachute !

I think mountain scenery, and lakes are absolutely gorgeous however...Like from what I've seen of Banff.
