Do you guys have a special song you like to sing at every show? I know there are two I sing all the time and I need to do at least one of them each night I karaoke
Mine are:
Billy Joel - We Didn't Start The Fire
Tommy Tutone - Jenny 8675309
I'm interested in seeing what you all sing

Everybody Hurts - REM
Otherwise I find what they have, or others I bring in with me.

Lately it's been "Before He Cheats" by Carry Underwood. I try to learn new songs all the time. The next one will be "Walk Away" by Kelly Clarkson. I never stay with any one song to long. I know if I'm bored with it the crowd must be.
I have a guy that's been singing Pretty Woman for 12 yrs everytime he comes in. I love him dearly, but geesh can you get a new song. LMAO

Hi Vicki
You bring up a good point - I don't think anyone person should claim a song theirs. Now their are some people in my venue who claim songs and get bent out of shape if someone else sings them. I try to disfuse it by backing up the notion that no one owns a song and they should be flattered that it sounds so well when they do it someone else would want to try it. The regulars usually stay away from doing what's concidered someone's song usually or will ask the person if they mind them doing it - which is nice. But come on - it is silly to think you won a particualr song.

<inserts big Babs hug here> sorry babe still on proxy server so cant use the emotes...how would you be? Yep anyone precious enough to throw a tantrum bout not being able to sing "their" song doesnt get much sympathy from me...I have been known to learn "their" song and be singing it just as they are walking in the door, they either get over themselves or find another venue. that was when I was a KJ...its a bit hard to argue with the KJ when they own the equipment and the discs

I try never to sing the same songs constantly. But then again, I am nuts about this stuff and my repertoire is now at least 50 songs I am always ready to do and a 150 I *can* sing.
I usually burn a set disk before I go out for a karaoke evening. That way I can hand the host a disk and say "I will do 1, 2, 3 in that order". Any key change is burned onto the CD. Most of the hosts like this a lot -- they don't have to deal with numbers, wrong songs, key changes, or anything. Just 1,2,3.
I keep them for a while, then toss them. I also have about 6 disks with 20 songs on them that constitute my repertoire, so I can always find a song if I want to do it.
Getting back to the matter at hand, of course I have my go-to songs depending on the crowd and the situation. But I don't do them every week by any manner or means.

Woah hold the phone.. sheesh don't kill me.
I don't frequent the same place so I'm not claiming it as MY song.
Yes I do sing a song i am very comfortable with first, which happens to be one of those two. I don't think there is anything wrong with that.

no doubt, it's no fun to keep singing the same song all the time. that is boring as hell.

Ya know in my short time here I am beginning to realize why some people hate there KJ's. Many of the posts I read there are many KJ's knocking the singers.
I don't understand that at all. "get over themselves or find another venue?" Maybe it is different where you all are from but where I am from the owner of the establishment pays a KJ's to host a show.
The owner gets paid by the patrons, and I'll tell you something if a KJ ever did that at a place I frequented I would make sure the owner realized who his customers are.
I don't know how an innocent post like what I posted turned into this, YOUR song thread but at least I'm learning what to post and what not to post.

Sorry my reply wasn't pointed at you. Just an observation of people who tend to sing the same songs.
Don't worry us KJs get ripped too. :D The discussion forum tends to have a lot of KJs that frequent it and we find this a safe place to vent about work. Most of us work shows alone and it is nice to have others that do the same work to share experiences with. 90% of my clientel are great people who are a pleasure to have sing. Unfortunately you are hearing us complain about the rotten 10%.
There is nothing wrong with having signature songs. We are just saying some singers get carried away with them.
I don't ever want to discourage singers from posting. It wasn't my intent to turn this into a singer bashing post. I was just trying to keep the thread alive.

It's cool I may have been a little overly sensitive. Just recently a KJ at a bar a was a regular at made an older 65ish disabled woman cry due to nonsense, and since then I explained to the owner as long as he employees that person my friends and I will not be returning to his establishment.
Speaking with my wallet is sometimes the only way you can get though to people not being nice human beings. I'm a little touchy yet because of it.
Sorry if I over-reacted.
