I'm looking for a good USB mixer with at least 3 mic channels 2 line in's for Laptop and Cdg player. It should have a good effects unit built in.

Anyone have such an animal and are you happy with it?

Why do you need such an animal.   Can't you hook up to a regular mixer?

I would like to avoid the whole sound card issue and also I would like to record for singers showcase. I think several others here are using them....I just want opinions on the best one.

I think Knightshow said he had one, but could not find his post by searching.

Is Alesis a decent mixer? I have no experience with this brand. Are they reliable?

They make other good products, however i've never actually played with this board.  I've used a couple other boards of theirs - including owning a KILLER recording board they used to make.  I think for your intent, it would be just fine.

The Alesis playmate is a great little toy for devocalizing songs directly from cd's. I have 1 and they seem to be a pretty good company very sturdy products.

I have that very mixer that Lonman linked to...however my PC went in for a rebuild and I just got it back - I haven't had a chance to play with it yet, but it looks pretty kewl. If you get one and figure it out let me know how it works LMAO.

I have been using Alesis reverb and compressors for 14 years.   That board has built in effects, WOW.     For the price.   My reverb unit cost $200.
