This is how it looks to me if I try to recreate something.
The Hummer likely did hit the Truck pushing it back. The quarter panel passenger side damage to the Hummer likely didn't happen at all as the result of impact with THAT particular truck. I think the Hummer likely would've been in motion hitting that particular truck on the Hummers other front quarter, or even front launching it back. From the damage to the trucks wheel well I'd say it was hit hard, and the tire marks leading back to the trucks current resting location show that the truck was pushed back and follower a fairly straigh backwards path (meaning it was positioned correctly when it or when the Hummer smacked into it). So, my guess also is the truck was in it's proper lane when hit by the Hummer, AND was hit from the Hummer coming off-road. Collision with that truck took place on the Hummers Driver side (or front Driver side bumper area ?? Dunno), and that sent already broken debris (on Hummer) flying at the same direction as the forward motion of the Hummer at the time of collision with the truck. Likely close to the Hummer's resting position was the point of the collision between the Hummer and Truck, However the only slight skidmarks from the front area of the Hummer, and the Debris path is weird.. That's what is confusing, there are noticeable skidmarks however where the truck was pushed backwards by the Hummer, but it doesn't look as though the Hummer was in much of a skid at that point. The Truck also might not've been in drive when it was hit. It MIGHT'VE started rear motion which was accelerate ALOT by the impact with the Hummer.
Do it yourselves. Look at the Damage, the road conditions, and try to reconstruct what happened assuming ONLY those two vehicles were involved. As a result of JUST a normal collision between those two vehicles, also resting in their current respective locations. It's not logical that the Hummer was traveling in it's proper lane at the time of impact, nor is it logical that the Hummer could've crossed over from it's correct lane, hitting the truck. Look at the light skidmarks that pushed the truck back. The Hummer was traveling hit it from an off-road position.
Crystal was correct in terms of more happened we don't see. But the Hummer probably IS tough. Something happened and it still traveled without abruptly applying the breaks. It's too clean in the front of the Hummer for that to have been the location where sufficient damage incurred to the Hummer's front passenger Quarter panel. It'd be interesting to see other views of the Hummer... Like a front Drivers corner view that shows where it had to have hit that truck, and possibly it's travel path and origin.

Sharon... I need to look up some of those crop circles. I have NO idea what the heck those things are about... I think some should be noticeable even looking at Google earth... I never read up on those. It's something that doesn't exist within close proximity to where I live. (That I know of)

kap, you have way better eyes than i do. i can't see skid marks OR sand in the picture. i'm strictly going off of positioning of the vehicles and damage to both

Steve, Pardon my cruddy editing ability last post... , I tried to initially list what I believed in an outline type format making it easier to follow, and that got botched up when I tried to further explain myself..
If you look closely there are light skidmarks that appear to start at where the Hummer would've struck the truck, launching it into backwards motion, or perhaps accelerating it's rear motion... It appears that the truck was pushed backwards at a VERY slight curve meaning the truck was likely aligned in a straight path and in it's proper lane and was hit by the Hummer on the Hummers drivers quarter panel and that spun the Hummer around a little bit.. but I don't think the truck would've been in drive when it was hit, I just don't think it was based on the skid path. It didn't seem to fight the path it was launched in but that's just my assumption, I think it might've seen something coming and shifted out've drive....(again based on a skidmark back to trucks resting place and debris field is all I'm going by, also road markings around front tires of Hummer). Also check out where there is a noticeable skidmark from the Hummer, on the sidewalk  I immediately looked for signs of skidding, and there are light marks leading back to where the truck now is.. More noticeably on the drivers side tires if you follow those back..but THAT collision didn't cause the damage we see to the Hummer passenger side IMHO, It couldn't have.... The Debris path of the Hummer show's that roughly the way it's facing, but more towards where the truck is resting is the direction of it's forward motion. It might've hit that truck almost head on coming from the opposite direction, but I think a slight angle ?? Give or take ??
Look at the light skidmark leading back to the driver side tire of the truck (hit back at a slight curve from roughly where the Hummer has stopped and spun back).. I think the Hummer collided with the truck slightly in front of where we can see, possibly traveling even from the sidewalk area but NOT it's proper lane (That's what's so strange) in an opposite direction hitting the truck at a slight angle. My guess is the Hummer spun around a bit, but didn't hit the truck from THAT bashed in passenger quarter panel at all, not judging from the wheel well damage at least. either somewhat straight on, or angled into the front passenger rear well...
Just what I think, who knows

Anyway, that's my story, and I'm sticking to it ..
Who knows.... Educated guesses, hunch... dunno. Maybe I'm totally off..Until we know, it's a guess.
There's something REALLY weird about that though. I'm pretty sure for what happened to have taken place, the Hummer had to be traveling from OFF road, that's what's so strange... It looks as though the momentum of the Hummer and direction of it's travel came from off road, either that or it was violently launched there from off-road towards the truck and into that truck but That wouldn't make sense. The motion of that accident is coming from roughly the direction the Hummer would've had to have been coming from which is the direction I believe the truck was pushed backwards roughly....but NOT from what would've been the Hummers correct road lane at all... Not given the angle of the skidmark leading back to the truck...
ADDED IN: OK, I now have a headache LOL
I used to try to solve all sort's of riddle's like this.. but ALL I'd put money on is Crystal is correct insofar as something MUCH more happened. More vehicles are VERY likely involved... We can't see them, but I have a strong hunch that we aren't looking at the biggest collision that happened that the Hummer was involved in....

I suppose it's conceivable that if the Hummer was on some Kamikazee mission it could've hit the truck directly head on coming off the sidewalk and sustained damage that way, but that's too weird.. Also doesn't make sense from what I see, but who knows.....
I give up...

Yup, this happened back in 1988. My 1974 Ford Maverick was completely totaled - front tire blew, windshield broke, entire front end caved in but I only got a banged up knee. Very lucky for me personally! That was a good car too. :(

Rather than speculate, I'm going to do a keyword search. "Hummer, It only look's tough". Let me see what comes up. Time to cheat here.

When I entered " Hummer it only look's tough", I just got the photo. Instead I did Keyword "Hummer Smashed", and this explains what happened.
http://nukecops.com/article214.html
I guess the driver had a seizure. Appears he was the owner of a Hummer dealership, Holy Xit. No DUI involved.. Dang, Wonder if his license will be pulled for that !
WOW, Poor guy, I'm glad noone was seriously hurt. If he had a seizure or heart atttack the incident is a fluke, not his fault most likely.... what an embarassment this all must be to him. Great publicity for his dealership
They should've captioned that
"$60,000 Bummer",
I've never been in a Hummer, are they comfortable ? Or are they like standard Jeep ? pretty stiff seats, and IMHO uncomfortable, (not the luxury jeep of course)
Average national price of Gasoline now 2.92

These higher gas prices are favorable for smaller local businesses I suppose. The Mom and Pop hardware store that still is able to exist might make out since people end up paying more traveling to Depot for smaller purchases. What do the Gas Stations make per Gallon of Gas ? about 5 Cents ?

That's an older dodge....It sustained less damage cause it wasn't designed to crumple as much as the Hummer.....The idea now a days is to protect the passengers...they do that by sacrificing the front of the vehicle in a head on crash...so you can believe the hummer-like any newer vehicle, would look the worse after a crash......Vehicles are cheaper to fix than people, so the NTSB requires vehicles to crumple and absorb the energy of the crash.....

Keith, The Hummer was smashed in at an intersection as well. The driver just kept going down a side road, and did in fact come off've the sidewalk when it collided with the last two vehicles it hit. The thing just kept going, God only know's how far. I guess the driver had a seizure and just floored the thing at a red light intersection. I think it knocked into another vehicle in front of the truck in that same area prior to hitting the truck.. (vehicle hit before truck in that location isn't pictured) I didn't intricately read the description. My Guess is that's it's final resting point.. (not sure didn't read comprehensively), Yet it appears it had to be. I just didn't believe that the Hummer sustained ALL that damage based upon the photo we are seeing from impact solely with that truck (of course if it was speeding off-road for some crazy reason who knows). The Hummer hit several vehicles higher impact at the intersection (I believe higher impact but who knows). All in all according to that article there were six vehicles involved. Not sure that that's the truck that the Hummer launched into a mini-van or not, probably is because I think according to the description it's the woman who owned that mini-van in the distant rear that gave the report..(EIther that or the driver of a different pet store white mini-van at the intersection who was hit) Yet if you look at that skidmark leading back to the truck (driver side), Do you think it was pushed back that far, or had already started to try to back out of the way when it saw the hummer coming, and the backwards motion was just accelerated by impact from colliding with the hummer... Assuming it was in drive, do you think it would've been pushed back at that clean a path ? It looks as though it partially rolled and that's how it ended after impace, likely wasn't towed back yet...Yet I don't know. It collided with several vehicles that were accelerating from standstill at their green light (around 90 degree impact to front quarter panel) which likely seriously messed up the wheel well area, (the hummer started accelerating from it's red light).. So the collision at the intersection could've done some significant front quarter damage. I wonder if that collision was highest impact though, or the fact that the frame's integrity was weakened from the intersection collision, it just did sufficient additional structural damage upon it's last collision with that truck..
